Can someone explain the Myanmar politics to me?
racket replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Myanmar, also known as Burma, has a complex political history. As of last knowledge update in January 2022, I'll provide a general overview of the political landscape up to that point. Please note that there may have been developments since then. Historical Background: Myanmar gained independence from British rule in 1948. The country experienced military rule for several decades, starting in 1962. During this time, Myanmar was known as Burma. Military Rule: The military junta, known as the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), ruled from 1988 to 2011. The military government faced widespread international criticism for human rights abuses and suppression of political dissent. Transition to Civilian Rule: In 2011, Myanmar began a process of political reforms, and a nominally civilian government was established. However, the military retained significant influence. Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel laureate and leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD), played a prominent role in this period. She spent many years under house arrest during the military rule. 2015 General Elections: In 2015, Myanmar held general elections, and the NLD won a landslide victory. Aung San Suu Kyi, although constitutionally barred from becoming president, assumed a leadership role known as State Counsellor. Rohingya Crisis: During Aung San Suu Kyi's leadership, Myanmar faced international criticism for the treatment of the Rohingya Muslim minority, particularly in Rakhine State. 2020 General Elections: In November 2020, Myanmar held another general election, and the NLD again secured a majority. The military, alleging widespread voter fraud, disputed the results. 2021 Coup: On February 1, 2021, the military, led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, staged a coup, detaining Aung San Suu Kyi and other political leaders. The military declared a state of emergency, alleging election fraud and promising to hold new elections after a one-year period. Protests and Civil Unrest: The coup led to widespread protests and civil disobedience movements across the country. The military responded with force, resulting in casualties and arrests. -

The European Union has already entered a recession, and it's anticipated that the United States will also experience a severe economic downturn in the coming year. Therefore, this situation should be viewed as a worldwide occurrence, and it might not be entirely accurate to attribute it solely to "political instability."

Death sentence is warranted or prison time.

Ban all Pitbulls and bull dogs, these things belong in a zoo. Not only do they attack humans, but other dogs as well. Only insecure guys with no functioning balls own a stupid dog called Pitbull.

They kept interest rates far too low, while it spurred economic growth, the debt levels surged. Despite very low unemployment rate the BoT should have kept interest rates a bit higher. The problem again, was that the Baht was too strong.

This should spark international outrage. I mean WTF is this! Obviously, the hospital most have been so desperate for money that they decided to go heavy against this unfortunate individual. They should sue the hospital and every doctor involved must be either sent to prison or pay a hefty fine. Unbelievable.

Thai economy set for boost as tourism and domestic consumption surge
racket replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If consumption increases, then that will give BOT to raise rates further, especially if inflation picks up with all this expected inflation coming to fruition. Thai have a record high of personal debt, so this "consumption" could be debt driven, which isn't always as productive. -

Before you even think about buying property in Thailand, it is crucial to educate yourself with two essential books. These books are: 1. "Buying Property in Thailand: Essential Guide" by Rodney Waller 2. "Pattaya Property and Thailand's Real Estate - How to Buy Thai Condominiums, Apartments, Homes & Villas" by Nick Pendrell You can find these books on Amazon. It is essential to invest time in proper education and research. Never let FOMO push you into purchasing anything in Thailand until you are absolutely certain that the property is legitimate and secure. Keep in mind that corruption exists throughout the country, and foreigners have often fallen victim to scams like these for many years. Despite numerous complaints against such practices, it is disheartening to see that the authorities in Thailand have taken no action to address this issue. This lack of action speaks volumes.

To address this issue promptly, one immediate solution is to adopt a market-driven Darwinistic approach known as Capitalism. By allowing companies like Uber, Grab, Bolt, and other third-party providers to take over the subsidized monopoly, we can bring about significant reductions in taxi fares due to increased competition and supply. This shift would eliminate the need for relying on non-verbal communication cues, as the pricing would be clearly stated upfront, enabling customers to make informed decisions without any hassle. Under this system, efficient and reliable taxi companies will be incentivized and rewarded, while underperforming ones will naturally be phased out over time.
