  1. I also need to get a Thai driver's license. (I don't have the patience to look- but is there a forum on this topic)? I know where the locatioin is (near Regent school)...how one takes the written test , then the driver's test. Can one "study" for the written test or is it "hit and miss"? Some farangs had to go 2-3 times back...others have said it wasn't a big deal to get a license.

I went to get new car tax today, but unfortunately they are closed on Saturday's and Sundays -(

  2. I'm pretty sure that a couple of years ago a Bacardi Breezer in there was 180 Baht... it was nothing special either.

I've eaten there a couple of times and tend to agree with some previous posters... I thought it was expensive and not that great. I am actually OK with not that great, but please don't charge me a premium for it.

I'd rather pay 200 baht for a breakfast that kept me going until late afternoon than 240 baht for two beers watching some bored slags trying to look sexy sort of dancing around a chrome pole

He does the best stuffing balls in the Eastern Seaboard !!!

  3. I'm the same too. I go down Beach Road, Walking Street and many different places on my own - sometimes I prefer my own company - but I never get too drunk and have never had any trouble.

    Common sense applies, as usual.

less trouble here on a Fri / Sat night than in the UK !

  4. I recently bought a Honda PCX 150, which I am having great fun with. However, when I have a second large person the back, the rear tends to dive down. If I upgrade the rear springs with stiffer ones, will this cure the problem? Do they come in spring sizes, or weight measurements ? Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

  5. How many tourists enjoy the beautiful scenery AT NIGHT, I wonder. The very word "nightlife" already describes quite vividly that it encompasses activities that are carried out at night, namley visits to restaurants, bars, nightclubs, etc. Both scenery AND nightlife are integral parts of every vacation. To say that nightlife was not a priority for tourists just goes to show how little the DPM understands about the needs and wants of foreign visitors to his country.

Chalerm sounds like a likely candidate for future Tourist Minister lol

  6. Mityon ( opposite Carrefour / Big C Extra ) terms were first year 85%, then second year only 65%. And it takes 3-4 months to pay out normally if you claim..

They did suggest going to a private company and paying for first class insurance independently.

Think I will probably just skip it altogether, normally am careful where I leave the bike.

  7. In negotiating prices ... work what you want to pay and offer less then 1/2 price (that mother-in-law is asking) as your opening bid. You can’t lower your opening bid! Thais love to bargin when buying, always smile, be polite but firm, otherwise you lose their respect.

Is there any urgency to buy the land?

    Are you going to build?

Buying vacant land with no intention to build on it (home factory etc) is just dead money unless you have inside information of an infrastructure upgrade which will increase the capital value of the real estate.

Do you have any inside information?

Plus there are some really weird Thai Laws (different from that we have in the west) about squatting rites etc. Maybe some of the other posters here can mention a few examples.

The Chanote issue is really important as it goes closer to guaranteeing you tenure.

Maybe say to your mother-in-Law that you "only have a little money at the moment and want the best that you can for her well-being and that it might be better to sell the land to a local Thai so that she can get the maximum price for her land."

All BS we know and that saves your face and you know that she most likely at best will achieve 150,000 Baht ... maybe less.

If the land sells, problem over for you ... if not, the non sale proves the 'way over the top' asking price in the first place.

The longer it stays on the market, the cheaper it becomes.

You still have to deal with the Mrs though ...

    ...

this seemed like good advice !

  8. When i bought my PCX over 2 years ago, I took the optional 2 year theft insurance back then. It was 100% for the first year and 80% for the second. Obviously this could all have changed but for how much they are charging and for peace of mind for your new purchase i'd say it was a no brainer really...

thanks guys for last 3 posts

will check the terms and update the post

  9. Today placed a new order with Mityon in Pattaya for PCX 150. They are offering extra insurance for 3,900 baht if the bike is stolen in the first 2 years. Do other TV members think this is reasonably priced, and a good option ? Interested in any comments you may have ..
