  1. I don't eat breakfast, Jingthing. While you may feel you are anal about your breakfast regimen, I note that it is super high carbohydrate and not healthy -- unless you buy into the current orthodoxy spouted by the US FDA. Since I have gone "low carb," I have lost weight and feel better. Although I have not cut saturated fat intake, my cholesterol has plunged. My your soy milk. I occasionally drink homemade soy milk.

I seriously doubt that your muesli is sugar free. I have never in all my 61 years found a pack of muesli that did not have sugar in some form listed among its otherwise ostensibly healthy ingredients.

People's obsession with cholesterol makes me laugh. Most blood cholesterol is manufactured in the body and is typically controlled more by one's genetics than one's diet.

How's your blood pressure and cholesterol, Jingthing? Are you taking any medications?

Christ, if your gonna eat breakfast, enjoy some ham, bacon and eggs, all you want, but forgo the toast, jam, potatoes and sugared up coffee. Don't forget to exercise.

I only eat a tiny portion of the cereal. My breakfast is mostly fruit. Of course fruit has natural sugars. I finally located muesli that really has no sugar including no dried fruit with sugar. Believe it or not, it does exist. I agree it's an issue but there are now a few products like that for sale at least in Pattaya.

My theory on breakfast in general is that its main function is to coat the stomach for ... COFFEE.

I enjoy my breakfast ritual but am not suggesting it is for everyone. You misunderstood me about being anal about it. I didn't mean I think it is the healthiest breakfast in the world. I do think it is healthier than a daily full English but the point is that like a lot of people, for some weird reason, I need a rigid amount of ROUTINE in my breakfast. Other meals, I am wildly adventurous. But now everyday for breakfast I want the same thing and if one of the ingredients is missing, that is bad. I think that's kind of amusing.

My motivation in diluting soy milk or using low fat soy milk is about reducing CALORIES. I just don't think the flavor of pure high fat soy milk is so wonderful that's it's worth the massive amount of calories in it.

You might want to think twice about eggs. I said might. The jury might still be out. I am well aware of the issue of people producing their own cholesterol in their body. It is no special secret. But that doesn't necessarily mean that diet isn't a factor as well:

If you want to reduce calories then just don't eat so much.

    simple.

  2. Everybody seems to be familiar with the Northern and Ayutthaya styles of house, but Thailand has many more and differing styles to be found.

Thought I'd start this thread as a place to post photos of old houses and assorted architectural tidbits to inspire planners and builders. Any old, different or particularly good feature you see in your travels, post it here

These two pics were taken in the Portuguese section of Bangkok near the Santa Cruz church. The are around here is very old and a warren of footpath sized sois. many houses have no road access at all.

This house seemed to have no access at all and I couldn't see much more than the roof, which I like..

This house is on the river, which seems to be it's only access. Despite the looks it is still inhabited.

Must have been an absolute showstopper when it was new. I can picture it all oiled, with the shutters open to get the breeze....

  3. i would add to this that Thai sockets, plugs and powerboards are largely rubbish.

While you can buy the same tools here, I would strongly recommend bringing some good industrial quality extension cords, powerboards and a handful of good quality outdoor use/industrial sockets which would obviate the need for shonky adaptors. Also some aust replacement plugs so you can rewire local tools.

  4. A friend of mine who resides on Koh Samui was fined 2,000 bht as his red plates were over 6 months old It appears that Car companies such as Toyota where my friend purchased his vehicle avoid issuing the white plate for as long as they can. The reaso is once thet have the white plate they then have to pay the purchase sales tax to the Government however whist the vehicle is running around on the red plate this is not the case. My friend took his receipt to Samui toyota and they refunded his spot fine of 2,000 and within 2 weeks he was driving with his new white plates !!!!

Both as a motive, and in the face of government admissions that the tendering process has delayed plate production that doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless the dealer is seriously under-capitalized.

Interest on the tax would be less than a fine.

  5. Actually I would suspect there is some nightlife in Takhli as it is still has an active Royal Thai Airforce base, a train depot and on highway 1 so a market town for a rather large area.

It's a very quiet town now, very spread out and I don't think it has a building over 3 stories.

    has a 7/11, no supermarket.

I haven't has a real good look around though.

Perhaps Peter can fill us in.

  6. I don't know about Brits, but I know an American in Takfa about 30 kilometers away, me!

I miss read and thought you said tahkli. Tak Fa really?

And here I was thinking I'm the tallest guy in the village.

Tak Fa really! Actually about 12 kilometers south of Tak Fa in a small village, Ban Khao Din Daeng (Red Dirt Mountain Village) in the middle of sugar cane and corn fields, about 20 houses in all. Been here over 14 years. Don't know of any "Pubs in Tak Fa", the two that existed years ago are long gone. Not familar with Takhli nightlife but doubt that any exists. Where do you live?

Technically I think it's Ban Khao Chai Tong, though I don't think either of us appear on maps. About 6 kms west of Takfa on the north side of AH 1 to Tahkli.

You'd be somewhere off highway 11 then?

Let me know if you're coming to the market in town and maybe we can grab a beer.

  7. I'm a bit confused.

Did the brochure say "Live your dream in our lovely residential estate"

or did it say "This estate consist of 50 residential plots and all sales contracts have restrictive covenants preventing any use of property for commercial or non residential purposes. These covenants will be mirrored upon the creation of the intended Juristic person"

Did you do any due diligence to ensure it was the latter?

in any event, having a physio/water therapy clinic on site almost sounds like an amenity.

I think the point is how can you really provide a secure moo ban when you have Tom. Dick and Harry (and Harry IS a naughty boy with pictures to prove it) coming in and out?

    sent from my Wellcom A90+

Again, did the brochure detail the level of security or just say there will be some bozo's at the gate to salute you as you drive through in a car with dark tint?

Devil is always in the details..

  8. To the OP.

They are cheap for a reason.

They have cheap fittings and a cheap finish.

The factory assembly is usually a bit dodgy.

The mechanics however seem fairly sound. The tech is old so most mechanics will have no trouble fixing it should the need arise.

If you get one get a mechanic to strip it down and repack or replace bearings, waterproof electrical connections and reassemble with loctite on all the fiddlybits.

  9. It's boggling that you took the time to write this.

kill them for a few fish,,,

blimy ill stick to my way,,,lol,

Well, they trespass deliberately with the intention to steal my lively hood And the result is my family will go hungry, and don't forget they are coming to deliberately use electrocution, sometimes accidents happen. In this case pooh-pooh happens. I would definitely have a sign up warning people that trespasses may be injured, or suffer death if they cross, I think the life expectancy of the following year's crop of fish would be much better with if the ghosts nearby of last years fish thief's.

You should see the setup I invented to protect some potential bacon piggies. poison arrows and all

At first I thought this was just a badly written, not particularly clever and poorly thought out joke.

But your reply seems to indicate that you are serious.

if so, you should go and search for the granny being charged with murder for killing an intruder after wiring her electric fence to the mains.

You are able to use force in Thailand to protect property, but a lethal mantrap will put you in the hole.
