  1. I don't agree it's s self righteous, a lot of people don't know travel insurance doesn't cover bike riding (unless a full licence plus proper insurance) to dangerous sports. Getting that awareness out is important. So is getting full medical. And riding a bike in Thailand, do so at own serious risk. I feel sorry for the guy, his retirement dream/career (I guess in Thailand perm, or even if on holiday) is down the toilet BUT if he had read of something similar before and not been on a bike or at least properly licenced and insured? Make people aware! I knew one 20 something killed and seen a few brains on tarmac in my time in Asia.
  2. E former bar girl with a 10,000 plus body count. Experience!
  3. It's a 1,000 times easier to scam a dishonest man. Over a million USD from being a policeman.... makes you wonder. Maybe he sold a house that went up a lot or bribes...who knows. He was very foolish and greedy.
  4. Harsh times, high unemployment and highgCOL = more crime But you have to be mega stupid to smuggle drugs
  5. Yes it's odd. Who really thinks you can get away that even if young and dumb! Unless they were told that customs had been bribed and they were desperate. Or even this is a bag switch by criminal bag handlers and they had no idea. Something more to this
  6. It's due to reciprocal agreements. If none the state pension is frozen. Could be short sighted though as if sick pensioners return to UK they cost more to the NHS. Although anyone relying on the state pension really should have saved a lot more. For me it's just a top up to cover increased medical costs when I reach 67.
  7. Crypto is the favorite of scammers, conmen, terrorists, paedos and drug dealers. So attracts attention.
  8. Ask all those choir bou s in the Catholic church.... they trust religious leaders
  9. Yes. I remember a Channel 4 program decades ago about researchers findings - they were surprised as the rapists chose "weak" victims not sexy ones. It's all about power.
  10. My guesss is it will allow powerful locals launder money more easily.
  11. Epping is lovely. Some of the best fights I ever had were in Epping! Hope the guy is ok - well let's say balls deep in a "money pit" level of trouble not murdered or in hlopital level of trouble.
  12. That's 580 USD but could get worse or better. Yes but what about medical? That's the usual next biggest (must) cost. And travel? Holidays? If just for food, local buses and bills doable
  13. That's nearly 430 million won, 10x average annual salary in Korea. Ouch Prob got into debt for this, as no upper middle class Korean would do this.
  14. Yes and Halifax, from henceforth called a bunch of cun@$, closed all my accounts after a review demanding Ingive then utility bills. So not perfect. Halifax don't allow non residents. Being an expat is getting harder and harder.
  15. I use UkPOSTBOX. 21 quid a month, its a "real" address so banks accept it, they scan post so you can see it online. They store physical post for like 10 pence a month (eg cards) and you can itbposted at standard PO rates where you like so can be in UK when visiting eg at a hotel l or send to address abroad. Only ever had one issue and that was the Halifax (aka as a bunch of cun#$ who closed all my accounts after demanding I prove I really lived there) A bigger issue though is DONT invest house money in Thailand. You are better off renting your house or investing in UK, then using the rent/dividends/interest to rent in Thailand. Also you will be subject to capital gains tax on your house sale for the tears in Thailand. Ouch.
