Hahaha the world is trying to go cashless banks are closing down and ATM's disappearing. Where do you get cash from?

With respect, not quite true. Yes, some countries, like the UK, are trying to go cashless but here in Siem Reap (Cambodia) new banks are being constructed and existing ones being renovated. There are also several newly constructed "multi-bank" ATM kiosks around town, in fact my bank, which was recently redecorated, has just opened 2 more new ATMs in the city. Cambodia does promote digital payments but cash will be available for a long time yet. I pay in cash, especially at the local fresh produce markets where cash is "king" or by debit card in the supermarkets.  So, where do I get cash from? - banks and ATMs throughout Cambodia. I do not own, or intend to own a smartphone. I cannot use them due to finger disabilities.

Photo of my refurbished and redecorated bank (2023). Also note road improvement to show new pavement(sidewalk), white lines and a pedestrian crossing!

Somewhat a pity that Nan's historical, cultural and scenic aspects have in recent years taken a back seat to the promotion of the number 3 curve on road #1081 south of Bo Kluea. It has become the number one tourist attraction in the province with the need for police to supervise parking and traffic so that everyone gets the new 'must have' pic standing on or next to the road with it receding into the distance with a vague 3 shape.

     Thanks. For reference:

What's the Thai immigration number to report illegal business and work? I have seen an uptick in businesses and work by foreigners in Thailand, and they post on many social media sites. I'm guessing it's 80/20, using the universal 80/20 rule. Yes, some may have a work permit through their Thai spouse. Also, I see an explosion of social media videos inviting westerners to come to Thailand to start a business because vendors in Thailand don't need a license to start selling as vendors, unlike in the West. These video posters have stepped up their activities from touting 5000-baht rooms and 50-baht meals to starting businesses as vendors in Thailand. I am thinking of tasking my concubines to scour English language social media and report any suspected businesses (like taxi services, tour guides, salons, selling foods on the streets, and other possibly illegal stuff) by Westerners and Indians who watch these English-language videos.

The only number I can find is:-

    • Immigration Bureau: +66 (0)2 287 3101

The Tourist Police may be interested if foreigners are suspected. The free call number is 1155. If some undesireable is grassed up, then so be it IMO.

His motive was alleged bullying and pressure from senior officers at the camp.

Sad, and IMO there should be no place in society for such people.

    Reference - report March 23rd 2020:

A new investigation by Amnesty International published today exposes how the Thai military routinely subject new conscripts to a barrage of beating, humiliation and sexual abuse that often amounts to torture.

The organization’s new report, We were just toys to them”, documents a widespread and long-standing pattern of abuse of new conscripts, including several incidents of rape.

Which countries import Thai ice cream. I've had good Thai ice cream, mostly at the Sabushi type places, BBQ's, all you can eat places, etc...

    For reference (Google)

Thailand's top five foreign ice cream markets are Malaysia with a 29.5% share, South Korea (11.3%), Vietnam (9.5%), Singapore (6.5%), and Cambodia (6.3%).

Do you like cheese? where do you buy your favoured cheese in Chiang Mai?

Yes I do, very much so! When I lived in North Thailand (Lanna) I used to buy Cheddar and Edam (both my favourites) in Tops or Rimping - as stated in another post.  Whilst visiting Thailand from Cambodia recently, I discovered in Ubon MAKRO a very nice and acceptable 1kg block of Cheddar cheese produced in Thailand!

AND he did some good things for the poor people of Isaan. A first in recorded history. They were slaves and then serfs (is there a difference?) until 100 years ago.

None of which they have forgotten.

Thanks. Not only Isaan but also Lanna. That is why he is still popular across Northern Thailand

323.10-kilometre Den Chai- Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong double track railway project.

Great to see the progress of this SRT metre gauge double track to the Mekong at Chaing Khong. It will certainly improve travel in this region, also providing a link with Bangkok. I see SRT have got their priorities right and are delaying the Chinese HST from Vientiane to Bangkok via Udon, Khon Kaen and Korat.
