IMO wheelchairs should be booked at the time of booking a flight , a medical cert shown as previously mentioned , and not a free for all at airports.

For reference, I always request a wheelchair when booking flights with Air Asia. When completing the on-line booking form, I tick the box for "unable to walk long distances" - it does not specifically say "wheelchair". When I present the booking confirmation at the check-in desk, I am asked if a wheelchair is required. I say "yes" and the letters "WCH" are printed on my boarding passes for "Fly-Thru" flights. Wherever I have to board or alight a plane, a wheelchair is always waiting - great service!

As for medical certificates, IMO these would be pointless as they can so easily be forged for around 100 baht in this part of the world, as I found out many years ago when applying for a Thai Driving Licence. I no longer drive.

I sometimes have to use a wheelchair because of a spinal problem . I have noticed recently that there are a lot of physically able people using wheelchairs because they are overweight and lazy . After arrival I watch them walking away with their luggage at speed . Genuine wheel chair users sometimes have to wait for the service because all chairs are in use .

In this case the airline are at fault having received plenty of notice and that should be the time to advise the customer that they cannot let him fly , not at the gate . Amateurish business , poorly organized .

Thanks, and an interesting observation. My encounter with physically fit people was recently experienced at Bangkok DMK. Having been pushed in a wheelchair to the departure gate for my flight (full) to Chiang Mai, my chair operator could not find one of the seats in front of the check-in desk "reserved for monks, disabled people and pregnant ladies" because they were all occupied by physically fit passengers with their hand baggage and shopping. Despite the blue and white wheelchair sign painted on the ground alongside these special rows, no one would move. However, no problem as the chair operator found me a seat elsewhere and informed Air Asia's check-in staff who came and assisted me, letting me board the plane first. So many ignorant people around these days!

You are 100% right. Big problems for the locals caused by the Russians. Maybe Thailand should consider limiting Russians, or at least reducing their stay period and extensions?

    For reference:

The immigration controller issued a notice to the tourism ministry asking Russian and Ukrainian people staying on extended tourist visas to leave Sri Lanka within two weeks from 23 February.........the ministry has been receiving complaints of some Russian tourists running unregistered and illegal businesses in the southern part of the country......a furious social media backlash over Russian-run businesses with a “whites only” policy that strictly bars locals. These businesses include bars, restaurants, water sports and vehicle hiring services.

Will Phuket and Pattaya soon become Special Russian Economic Zones like the Chinese one in Sihanoukville???

I have been on this Amlodipine blood pressure meds for about 10 days

Lately I have been feeling fatigued, tiredness lethargic etc

    I'm thinking it's this

My BP before Amlodipine was 140/87

The dr said that's too high go on the Amlodipine

I went to the doctor told him I missed the gym the last 7 days

He suggested a blood test ,will know the results later ,he had no answer

    Wouldn't blame it on Amlodipine

But I'm sleeping better just I have no energy

I have been taking Amlodipine 5 (twice a day) for wellover 10 years now and I have no reaction to the drug. Yes, I occasionally get tired and fatigued at 80 years of age but I put this down to the excessive heat and humidity here in Cambodia. I also take Angilock 50 once a day. I always sleep very well. A few days ago at Ubon Thai Government Hospital, my blood pressure was 109/75. These 2 drugs, along with insulin, are to control my diabetes type 2. Amlodipine and Angilock are readily available over the counter here in Siem Reap.

What is so scary about digital payment for some of you... ?

For me, nothing scary at all. I do not own or use a smartphone due to finger disabilities. I rely on cash or debit card for payments so businesses that do not accept these payment methods I have to avoid. My personal choice.

I always pay cash and I always leave a tip.

    Keeping the art alive.

Well done - so do I, even here in Cambodia. None of this digital wallet cr*p or smart phone apps for me. It is cash only and if the outlet does not like this, then I take my business elsewhere!

However, entering Thailand is not as easy as it sounds

Wrong - very easy for me this past weekend, crossing between Cambodia and Thailand at the land border between Choam (Cambodia) and Chong Sangan (Thailand). Very easy, with aimiable, English speaking Immigration Officers both sides of the border. All I had to complete was a TM6 to enter Thailand, on which my address was Ubonratchathani Government Hospital. I did not have to fill in the reverse regarding income and I was not asked about how much money I was carrying.  On the return journey, I had to complete a Cambodian Arrival/Departure card but the kind Khmer Immigration Officer did this for me, noting my ER Annual Retirement Visa number.

Do you enjoy the return of the wai when someone offers this gesture to you?  Why?

Yes very much so! It is a matter of respect, as taught to me as a child by my parents. Here in Cambodia where I now live, I always "wai" to people.

Interstingly, yesterday (Sunday 25th February 2024), I returned to Siem Reap from a consultation with a Thai specialist across the border at Ubon Ratchathani Government Hospital. When all was complete, the lady doctor offered her hand for me to SHAKE on leaving her clinic, wishing me good luck for the future. Amazing, and the first time in 24 years a Thai doctor has shaken my hand!
