  1. For reference:- Unless they used a charter flight, Pai airport is not currently operational. The nearest airport is Mae Hong Son, 106 kms by road. https://domesticflightsthailand.com/airports/pai-airport
  2. With the greatest respect, one more in the pick-up: ......on 5 September 2014 successful crammed 29 people into a new model MINI to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people crammed in a MINI, new model. https://autojosh.com/photos-of-the-day-29-people-crammed-into-a-mini-sets-guinness-world-record/
  3. Thank you Khon Kaen Immigration for your very kind assistance with the annual renewals of my retirement visa when I lived in Isaan. I wish you well. Fortunately, I now live in a neighboring country where the BS nonsense of "cash in a bank" does not exist and extending a retirement visa is simplicity itself and no corruption!
  4. Thanks, I presume not but that is what was stated.
  5. Condos yes. When I checked Google, amazingly I found this:- "It is a commonly unknown fact that although a foreigner cannot own land in Thailand, he can own the house or structure built thereon. One only has to apply for a construction permit to build the house in his own name"
  6. I am not surprised (Google) - The app was launched in 2016 by the Chinese technology company ByteDance.
  7. Then a catastrophic event causing extinction of dinosaurs?
  8. Thanks for your interesting comment and Chinese batteries. For reference:- BANGKOK, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The first battery-powered locomotive manufactured by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Dalian Co. Ltd was launched here on Wednesday to aid Thailand's efforts to improve its railway service while cutting carbon emissions....Testing of the locomotive was conducted successfully by the State Railway of Thailand at the Bang Sue Grand Station in Bangkok.......The locomotive was jointly developed by CRRC Dalian and Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) of the Southeast Asia country.(Thailand) https://english.news.cn/20230112/f7e5aa5d551943ae97f34b389502476c/c.html
  9. Unfortunately I did not, but it was soon pointed out to me in another reply. So, from Bangkok to Chiang Mai would require two stops for 10 minutes charging time - 20 minutes. Will this be added to the current travelling time or would these new locomotives travel faster than the current diesel electric ones thus being able to make up time??
  10. With respect, this is standard practice in the UK. You must wait. The lad's family will be involved in the investigation, possibly with the assistance of Family Liaison Officers.
  11. Distance by rail from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is 744 kilometers (Google) so there will be the need to make 2 long stops to change/recharge batteries or replace with another fully charged locomotive???
  12. Great news. When visiting, I can now go shopping in the Burmese Duty Free shop for decent sized clothes!
  13. Very sorry I cannot be specific. I am not involved with the investigations in Leicestershire (UK). The Coroner's report will be made available as soon possible so that the poor lad can be repatriated to his grieving family in Thailand (unless agreed otherwise). We must wait until then.
  14. As a retired UK Forensic Scientist, I can assure people that the appropriate authorities will be conducting proper investigations, with the results being presented to the Coroner. With respect for the poor lad's family and friends, please do not speculate and wait for the Coroner's report. Thank you.
  15. Additional information from the link: "The meatballs were being advertised as made of 100 percent pork which is not true because it is mixed with chicken meat to decrease the cost of production......................................the meatballs are also contaminated with Borax" (this is Sodium tetraborate and different from Sodium benzoate)
  16. So what! Still inexpensive compared to taxi prices. On a recent visit to Chiang Mai, the passengers (including myself) paid only 20 baht - one green note and no hanging around for change!!
  17. For those who may not know about UK Coroners, for reference: Coroners are independent judicial officers who investigate deaths reported to them. They will make whatever inquiries are necessary to find out the cause of death, this includes ordering a post-mortem examination, obtaining witness statements and medical records, or holding an inquest. A death is reported to a Coroner in the following situations: a doctor did not treat the person during their last illness a doctor did not see or treat the person for the condition from which they died within 28 days of death the cause of death was sudden, violent or unnatural such as an accident, or suicide the cause of death was murder the cause of death was an industrial disease of the lungs such as asbestosis the death occurred in any other circumstances that may require investigation https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/coroners-post-mortems-and-inquests
  18. May be so, but how many will actually book a shore excursion and how many will remain onboard to enjoy the ship's facilities????? (zero Baht)
  19. Bullet proof shield????
  20. With respect, I would also like to know. Where I lived there were two large Mitrphol sugar refineries, one in Nong Rue and the other near Chumphae. All I ever witnessed were stacks of sugar canes entering, never any large bales, biomass or otherwise. Canes in - sugar and molasses out!!
  21. Interesting, why Tourist Police?? Foreigners running the gambling site????
  22. Yes indeed. Where I lived in rural Khon Kaen, burning sugar cane during the harvest was a nightly event - vehicles/people could not be seen. Every morning, I would wake to ash and burnt plant debris around and on the house. At first, it was burning the leaves and other debris left after the harvest, nowadays the fields are burnt to remove the dry leaves before harvesting leaving just the canes which can be cut more efficiently. More canes (without leaves) can then be stacked on a lorry providing a much better payload! This practice will never stop, whatever "distant" Bangkok decrees!
  23. Very appropriate for causing a bit of a stink at the eye clinic!
  24. Sadly, the young lad appears to have suffered this during surgery! Get well soon.
