I am in CM now and live in Pattaya.
There is plenty to do here and I think the "overall lifestyle" is better then Pats or BKK especially for retired.
Lots of good golf, mountain and lakes. But city things also malls, etc.
If you do not care about having an ocean close by or a great number of sex venues and sex opportunities and want a more laid back life, I would say CM is better then both.
That is the one thing that CM is missing, the ocean / sea. Fortunately air fare in Thailand is dirt cheap, so we head somewhere with a beach every month or two for a few days, then climb on the big bird back to CM. Plus this allows us to visit a variety of sea side locations and not have to live there full time.

Yeah, about $12,000,000,000 apples and oranges.
You really don't have a clue about who and what the Clintons are, do you?

Retired, lived in Bangkok for 3 years, spent a lot of time in the south, lived in CM for more years than I care to say.
1. I find that northern Thai people to be more friendly than in the south.
2. Traffic can be bad, but nothing like Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Hua Hin.
3. Cost of living is a bit lower here.
4. A dozen golf courses in the area.
5. I like northern Thai food.
6. International airport without having to fly through Bangkok.
7. I enjoy the weather in the north more than the south. Not quite as hot most of the year, cool during the winter months. The smoky season is a different story.
8. Lots of foreign food choices.
9. Good medical care.
10. Can get anywhere in town in under 30 minutes.

Reflecting Trump's "America First" stance, substantial majorities in 19 of the 25 countries surveyed said the United States did not take their interests into account when making international policy.
Why should he, what part of an "America First" policy do you not understand?
The US has been paying both their friends and enemies in various ways for decades, just to keep them as allies. At this point, with $21,000,000,000,000+ on the balance sheet, you fair weather friends are on your own.

When I first came to Thailand to live, I remember shouting at other drivers all the time under my breath for pretty much driving Thai style. Used to drive me crazy, people pulling out in front of you, motorbikes all around you like pilot fish, u-turns from hell, people driving the wrong way and on and on. After a while I accepted that this is the way it is and adapted. Now, according to the wife, I drive the same way Thais drive, which in a way is kinda scary. The other guy will wait for me when I pull out in front of him, the same as he does to me. Mai phen rai

The already have a historical, marketable name in "Thai Stick".
I still remember it from the 70's.
Aside from the Colombian Red and Acapulco Gold, Thai Stick was some of the best back in the day.

What is the best course of action in case of assault?
Run away, especially in Thailand as you will have more than one person attacking you.
Solutions to avoiding a fight.
Park your bike somewhere else
Eat somewhere else
Ignore the guy
Don't let it bother you

There had been no negotiations with Trump prior to that meeting, unless you count name-calling on Twitter as a form of negotiating. There had been some talks between the north and south earlier, in January and February. Here's the timeline. Clearly, things start happening in early 2018:
https://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/dprkchron
Can you describe whatever negotiations you're referring to? What agreements were reached as a result of your imagined negotiations?
Do you believe that no negotiations took place via back channels prior to these events taking place?
From the article you quoted:
In January 2018, another diplomatic effort began when North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared the country's nuclear arsenal "complete" and offered to discuss with Seoul North Korea's participation in the South Korean Olympics.
In March 2018 Kim requests a Summit with the US to discuss normalization of relations and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
After decades of isolationism, why would Kim all of a sudden end this era and extend an olive branch to SK? Simply because he announces that his nuclear program is complete, so now he wants to dismantle it? All of this happened in a vacuum, right?
If you attribute the NK / SK meetings to anything other than direct influence from the US, then there is no reason to continue this discussion. You have your opinion and I have facts.

April 27th, 2018: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. It's the first time a member of the Kim dynasty has set foot on southern soil since the end of the Korean War in 1953 and the latest bid to settle the world's last Cold War standoff.
Thanks for making my point. This was a direct result the Trump administrations negotiations with Kim Jung Un.

And Kim has gotten the US to stop doing military exercies on the border. More importantly China and Russia have massively relaxed economic restrictions on the north. They have both cited Trump's remark that North Korea is no longer a threat. It's hard to justify continuing sanctions if you say that the target of them is no longer a threat and that the problem is solved. North Korea has already profited hugely from the "negotiations."
And you're wrong about the past. Several times progress was made, or rather apparent progress only to have it fall apart. Nothing that North Korea has done so far isn't easily reversible.
Name one POTUS that has met with the leader of NK since the end of the Korean conflict. I'll be waiting patiently.
As far as "progress" being made, name one negotiation that led to NK denuclearization and normalization of relations with SK. Again, I will be waiting patiently.

It is just embarrassing; hey Americans, are you proud of your President?
"...Three senior U.S. officials involved in North Korea policy said this week that no progress has been made in moving towards serious negotiations on eliminating or even halting Kim’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs..."
THIS is what is important, not Trump's pre-pubescent crush on the 'new' boy in class.
If it weren't so serious, it'd be funny.
However, it IS serious as a heart attack, and Trump/the USA is just getting played for a fool...
How many missiles has NK fired since the beginning of negotiations with Trump?
How about NK dismantling it's nuclear test facilities, that is just a coincidence, right?
Name another POTUS that has made ANY progress in negotiating with NK in your lifetime. You can't, because it hasn't happened.
Can you name the "three senior US officials" that you cite in your quote? If you can, I'm betting they have a "D" following their name, if they exist at all. After all, we know how much the MSM loves Trump and they make shit up every <deleted> day.
I don't give a shit if Kim has a man-crush on Trump and vice versa, if the negotiations reduce the chance of nuclear proliferation on the Korean peninsula and helps to re-unite the North and South, then so be it.
BTW, your TDS is showing and the only embarrassment should be by those the propose to continue the nuclear standoff with a tin-pot dictator because they don't like the guy trying to bring them to heel.

What is the cost of the surgery at Sripat ???, I also need the surgery in both eyes. I also had lasik done 15 years ago in U.S
Thanks
It's 45,000 baht per eye, with a monocular lens.
-
Thanks for the reply Sheryl.
Getting the original corneal measurements is probably not possible as I originally had Lasik done 10 years ago in my country. I was referred to Dr Manachai as he has experience in these types of surgery.
I appreciate the positive response on Sriphat.

Looking for referrals from people that have had cataract surgery / lens implants done in Chiang Mai. I know there are a variety of places in CM that can do this surgery, but I am looking a someone with a good reputation and of course, price is a factor.
I was recently diagnosed with a cataract in one eye, not too bad, but it is effecting the prescription for that eye. My optometrist say that it would not be advisable to change prescriptions to correct this until I had cataract surgery. I went to RAM to have this diagnosed and to check on getting it fixed. There was one test they could not do as they did not have the equipment to do the test. It turns out that if you have had Lasik in the past, cataract surgery is not as straight forward. They referred me to Sriphat hospital round the corner where I had this one test done. Now I am ready to go in for the surgery and am looking for people's experiences. I am leaning toward having the cataract surgery done at Sriphat by Dr Manachai as the cost is roughly 15,000 baht less than at RAM. Any insight would be appreciated.

The Chinese tourist had been refused entry into the country and had been detained. He exited the detention area and was wandering the airport, likely looking for an exit and to enter Thailand. The cop was doing his job. At some point reality smacks you in the face, like this guy found out.

I was talking with one of the shop owners at Promenada recently about the imminent relocation of immigration back to the airport and the lack of traffic at the mall in general. He told me that a Chinese company had bought the mall from the previous owners, so it looks like the mall will stay open for the foreseeable future. After all, the Chinese are masters of buildings cities that no one uses, what's one more mall?

Trump helped parents shield millions from taxes: New York Times

This story has already been refuted by Trump, stating that the IRS signed off on these types of transactions long ago. Just another attempt by the NY Southern District to "trump" up something to keep the NYT fed with crap.
I'm waiting for the NYT to report that there is an eye witness to Trump pulling a train on a group of Midget wrestlers from Mexico and that the alleged victims have engaged the services of Michael Avenatti to represent them. Oh the horror.
