It seems that foreign couples are concentrated in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. The rest of the country?  Just got back from a month in Udon Thani and I saw exactly one foreign lady who wasn't obviously a tourist or a college age kid.

All I can speak for is CM as it has been years since I lived in Bangkok, but there are many farang couples in CM and not just retired couples. I see young farang couples here all the time, many with one, two or more young children in tow... These are not tourists as they are far away from tourist areas and obviously live here. To the old grumpy guy earlier in this thread, times change and there are many more farang escaping the west for many reasons in recent years. Thailand and CM in particular is a good alternative as long as you can qualify for a visa.

'A very good dinner for 25 baht'.  Well, i'd need to see that plate of food before any comments.

Like others have said, if you eat in tourist or expat areas, you are going to pay more.  If you buy food at Thai tallats, you pay local prices. Here my example, at tallat Mai Hia, my wife will pick up one order of Penang Moo and khao for 50 baht. It's a big order and easily serves both of us one meal each, plus enough leftover for me to eat for lunch the next day.

Do the Tesco Lotus BBQ chicken test. 139 baht in Hua Hin and Bangkok.  Exactly the same chicken is 118 baht in Roi Et, Ubon Ratchathani and Surin.

How much is it in CM?

A cooked BBQ chicken in Big C is 110 baht. Not sure about in Lotus.

I generally find all prices across the board to be a bit cheaper in CM compared to Bangkok and Phuket.

I had CompuServe in the 80's I could text other people and meet girls online.

Yeah, me too, but back then CompuServe was a dial-up BBS system. not the internet.

I'm showing my age, but I pre-date the PC / Mac era of the IT industry.

One could also use the Central Airport Plaza parking (free), a 10 minutes walk though.

It's only free if you are riding a motorbike, cars and pickups pay are usual.

Parking across the street from the immigration building in the gas station is only 20 baht if memory serves me.

  6. And still no parking at the Airport location.  ☹️

I went there once prior to their moving to Promenada. It was at that moment while I was sitting in the small waiting room with 100 other people at a temperature of 40+C that I decided that using a visa agent wasn't that expensive after all.

Lol...years ago there were a lot of these type of websites....early 90's?

Nowadays its these  vlogs that are popular...guess im getting old.

The internet was not available to the general public until 1991 and there wasn't much public content for some time.

I believe the Stickman site began around 2001.

And yes, we are getting old.

Funny, that is why I left Grace. It's been a while now but lots of newbies go there first.

Especially those who insist "you get what you pay for."

That's funny because I avoided using Grace for years as I had always heard that they were the most expensive in town, but also the best. After trying 3 other dentists in town I had enough of the clinic mentality, which is to charge as much as possible as often as possible and tried Grace out of frustration. I have no complaints with the prices or service at Grace.

Last year I had to have some crowns replaced and a partial made so I consulted 3 separate dentists that were recommended by friends in town. Much to my surprise, Grace turned out to be the cheapest by roughly 20%. So much for the "most expensive in town" reputation.

Elite at panthip plaza. ask for dr joy. excellent

I used to use them, until it became evident that all they wanted to do was find cavities to fill at 1000 baht a pop.

I use Grace Dental now off of Nimman. I wished I had used the to begin with.

The regs only say 'evidence' of 65K per month -- nothing about an income affidavit from your country's Embassy.

This is the key. No need for discussion as to where your income comes from, how it gets into Thailand or who has / has not affirmed the transactions. All IMM is looking for is a bank balance of 800,000k seasoned for 3 months for annual consideration -or- the equivalent of 65k per month of income, preferably deposited into a Thai bank account. If you have a bank book denoting either of the above requirements, then there is no need to waste your time or money getting an affidavit from the US Consulate.

On another note, I use Assist Thai Visa to handle my annual renewals and 90 day reporting as I cannot be assed with the task. I received an email from them just this week advising that proof of income at CNX IMM is the new SOP if using an affidavit from the US Consulate. Looks like CNX IMM has finally caught onto the ruse.

    yes, i know that one,

was just wondering if there is any solution that doesnt add

some 15.000 baht per year and visa

I use "that" visa agent also for my annual renewal and for 4 - 90 day reports. Total cost is around 4k baht for the agent cost.

met mine in thaifriendly. recent masters graduate. lonely and horny. best woman i have ever met. great wife. 6 years now with no regrets

Met mine on Thaifriendly too.  After years of dating Thai women across the social spectrum, I decided to be a bit more pragmatic. This may sound a bit callous, but I made a list of "must haves" for a potential mia; college degree, stable profession, emotionally mature, either had adult children or did not want kids, did not have a long list of mooching cousins, self sufficient and most of all, did not need to marry a farang. It took a while to find the right lady, then dated for 3 years before getting married. I wanted to make sure that the 3rd time was the charm. ?

99% of people who consort with sex workers while drinking do NOT get drugged and ripped off. You are wrong. It is not a fact. It is your delusion and sanctimony. A silly false generalisation.

I am not talking about the entire bar industry in Thailand, I am talking about the propensity for foreigners to get scammed in karaoke bars in CM, which is the topic of the thread after all. You can generalize and deflect by attacking all you like, you, are, simply, wrong.

Sex workers and booze usually go hand in hand. You are giving a moral judgement reflecting your own prejudices not an accurate assessment.

It appears that you condoning people being drugged and scammed in Karaokes and charging it off as a risk of going to a lady bar, then deflect the statement as a moral judgement based on some prior prejudice.   This simply is not the chase with CM Karaokes as this scam has played out for years and is well documented. Stating a fact is hardly a moral judgement.
