Gerhard Huemer of SMEUnited said: “What we see most of is Eastern Europeans having returned home during the pandemic and choosing not to head back to Western Europe now.” Indeed, some companies are already offering better working conditions. According to a survey by the Manpower group, for example, 64% of companies in Slovenia are planning to raise wages.https://www.euractiv.com/section/politics/news/labour-shortages-felt-all-over-europe/ Reading this and you will understand why they didn't come back Eastern European workers: exploitation in the construction industry and enforcement by regulatory agencies Gangmasters from Romania who have trafficked and exploited construction workers and been found to have imposed oppressive conditions in order to reap financial rewards have been prosecuted under the Modern Slavery Act. In R v David Lugar,[25] the defendant was convicted at the Inner London Crown Court on seven counts of holding another person in slavery or servitude or requiring them to perform fraud and compulsory labour. https://www.ibanet.org/clint-june-2021-eastern-european-workers-exploitation-construction-regulation-enforcement Similar exploitation happens in the farming industry six Lithuanian nationals, who were agricultural workers, filed a lawsuit in the UK against DJ Hougton Chicken Catching Services, accusing the company of human trafficking. The claimants alleged that they were trafficked to the UK with the involvement of a Lithuanian national who was paid for this service by the defendants. On arrival in the UK, the claimants say they were severely exploited by the company, based in Kent,

Problem is not everyone received furlough payments some workers were just told sorry we have to shut Some Airline tried to rehire staff that they let go during Covid but some bright spark in the airlines suggested why don't we pay them less, and provide contracts with reduced terms and conditions Some people that did receive furlough payments took the opportunity improved their education and skill set so they wouldn't have to accept a low paying job with no job security and terrible working conditions

The result is that the High Court's decision that Rwanda was a safe third country is reversed and that unless and until the deficiencies in its asylum processes are corrected removal of asylum-seekers to Rwanda will be unlawful. https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/AAA-v-SSHD-summary-290623.pdf There was a further 5 points raised by the asylum seekers and the charity which were dismissed by the Court Some of the claimant's wanted the court to rule that the entire policy was unlawful but the court didn't

Unlikely to get replacements from the EU as they have the same issues since Covid people are more focused on quality of life rather than working for a pittance with terrible working conditions, unsocial hours and zero job security https://www.socialeurope.eu/not-so-much-a-shortage-of-skills-as-a-shortage-of-pay The EU recently published a report listing the Top 10 shortages occupations and the Top 10 surpluses occupations https://www.ela.europa.eu/en/news/labour-shortages-europe-labour-market-tightening

Or if you go back further some scholars argued that the policies of the UK Government during the Irish Famine was a deliberate act of genocide by the British government. Over 1 million Irish people died Last Conquest of Ireland https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/distributed/L/bo58743592.html Clearly UNHCR doesn't seem to have an issue evacuating refugees and asylum-seekers from Libya to Rwanda as it has been doing so since 2019 and in 2021 extended its MOU to December 2023 https://www.unhcr.org/rw/who-we-help/evacuees-from-libya-emergency-transit-mechanism-centre

Recent Poll taken last week A large majority of those polled – 72% – said they would vote again the way they did in 2016 even knowing what they know seven years later; while 72% also said they wanted to stop discussing Brexit. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jun/22/leave-voters-brexit-success-poll

Not sure where you get the idea that Rwanda doesn't accept any asylum seekers As clearly shown from the report by the UNHCR in the Situation analysis section In addition, while the refugee situation in Rwanda has largely been a protracted one, increasing instability in Eastern DRC during the latter part of 2022 and early 2023 has forced people to flee across the border to Rwanda. As of end of March 2023, around 6,000 new arrivals have been recorded. https://reporting.unhcr.org/operational/operations/rwanda

I am sure Rwanda can say no if they feel their unable to support a high number I see Denmark entered into a similar agreement with Rwanda as they have an opt out clause with the EU on the EU asylum policy, And now a number of EU member states are pushing the EU to adopt a similar approach Now EU member states want their own Rwanda-style migrant deportation programme: Denmark, Greece and Austria use Brussels conference to urge bloc to follow UK lead to stem flow of Mediterranean boats https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12250569/EU-member-states-want-Rwanda-style-migrant-deportation-programme.html Eight member states want a similar ‘innovative’ approach to controlling immigration https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/eu-faces-call-to-strike-rwanda-style-deals-2g6wjjbg6

More than 24,000 asylum seekers from about one-third of the world’s countries could face removal to Rwanda by the UK Home Office in the future, A notice of intent letter is issued after the Home Office has declared an asylum claim inadmissible. This means the case cannot be determined in the UK because the asylum seeker previously passed through a safe country before reaching Britain. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jun/30/over-24000-uk-asylum-seekers-could-be-sent-to-rwanda-despite-court-ruling A number of countries on the list are the same countries that I see forum members discussing travel plans to visit those countries

It was lawful until the recent court hearing last Thursday who knows what the outcome will be when the case goes to the Supreme Court "Enver Solomon, the chief executive of the Refugee Council, said: “We are relieved that the court of appeal has ruled that Rwanda is not a safe country for people who claim asylum. However, we’re disappointed that they have not concluded that the overall policy is unlawful.” The judges unanimously rejected other grounds of appeal in the case. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jun/29/plan-to-send-asylum-seekers-to-rwanda-is-unlawful-uk-appeal-court-rules

And who was responsible for asylum claims from 1997-2010 maybe you didn't understand when John Reid stated there was 450,000 backlog of asylum claims in 2006 John Reid reported in 2006 that there was a backlog of 450,000 cases The government was last night forced to revise upwards claims that there were fewer than 250,000 failed asylum seekers in Britain after officials unearthed evidence that the figure was closer to 450,000. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2006/jul/19/asylum.immigrationasylumandrefugees Some cases were on file for up to 9 years
