  2. May I ask where you get this idea from ? On the subject of three wheel electric vehicles try Lazada, some are available or find a motorcycle garage that converts 2 wheel to 3, I have seen several on the road over the years. john
  3. Still open today 28th Nov. john
  4. Nightlife in our fair city. Cum on. My younger days late 70s and 80s where spent in BKK, now their was Nightlife there back then. Not had a night out in BKK since 04 and was traveling back to Dom Muang when the Tidal wave hit. CM had a its nightlife when I came in 01 and Old Hands could tell tales that where for Young Pups unbelievable. I have said for years that BKK died in the 90s as the bars went from Thai run bars often owned by Mamasan, to the fancy Yank rip offs Los Vagas style, just money making operations for Frang Interests and minimum concern for the Young Maidens. The Old Style Mama cared about her staff, not just money makers but Daughters Thai Style. My nightlife, boozing days are long gone and all yous can make the most of todays Thai Nightlife. john Heard some quite terrible tales on CM of old. PS Dont bother answering my Rant.
  5. Gamboled I tried for about three weeks to open my system. I even had a consultation with Apple California using my iPad. I tried at least 50 times to open with Apple ID and correct password. I am no expert just a user, but I ended up with Your System is Locked and after consulting net still no go. I am please with the service offered by the gent who is located down the Hang Dong Road, mind you he had to take more drastic action to sort my problem. John
  6. I picked up my Mini Mac this morning. Yesterday the owner also tried to open up and had same problem. The log in screen opens but it will not accept the correct password and tells me that my system is locked. Recovery mode does not work and goes into System locked. I left my Mac with the owner and when I called for an update he told me my Mac was up and running. He had asked if he could ‘Wipe’ the system and he had done this. The owner was not in this morning and his lad sorted me out. Dry good service from a man who knows his job. My Mac is about one year old and has 8 gig ram, normally well pleased with it but I have no idea why it went into not recognizing the Correct Password which I keep, written down on my iPad. John

  9. I have a mini Mac. It will not open. I entered correct password but it would not unlock. I went through recommended solutions but now it tells me System Locked. It will not open in Recovery mode when I start using Command (R) on start up, many tries. Is their an expert who can help or recommend a shop that could help ? John
  10. Placed my paperwork in this morning. B20 for my two passes, one car one M/cycle. Once again paper in Thai only, remember when one side in Thai the other in English. Nice young Thai girl helped me fill in. Then off to the policeman who checked details and entered the Thai letters for my registration numbers. Copies of personal license for M/cycle and Car also Page 4 from registration book required. No copy of ID or Passport needed. Then to front desk pay B100 per pass and can collect from 16 Jan 2023. John

  12. Just had a Line mail confirming a Earthquake 13 kms east of CM. John
  13. Hum, just felt the earth move for me. First my Laz Boy Chair shook and as it settled down I could see a bamboo bookcase shake. Last time this happened was a few years back and an Earthquake in Burma was reported. John It’s still dark nighttime and only illumination is my TV.
  14. I came past today and there where two Military police on the road outside and seemed to have a que of folk lining up for their paperwork. Normally its first Monday in November but seems to have kicked off early this year. john
  15. Er not busy and very retired. Thai immigration used to be very bad. Folk queuing up at 04.00 it was bad. Then Thai Visa came along and in return for payment they did ALL the heavy lifting. Not the richest Frang but I am well satisfied paying someone else to take the strain. John
  16. Looks like I have confused matters. I was writing about when I came to CM back in April 2001. I stayed in the old city inside the moat. I was made welcome by the old hands who used John’s Place and it’s excellent staff. John’s Place was a 24 hr open bar. Just a bar selling food. I can’t remember if he employed 2 shifts or 3 shifts of girls to cover the operation, 2 most likely. Across the 45 degree Soi next to the bar John owned a second bar which featured Go Go dancers of a night, no strippers that I saw or heard of. After I had used the bar frequently a girl mentioned that if I asked John he would give me a 20% discount card for drinks and food. I never did but I had taken several photos of John and his family including his new daughter. I bought a new printer for my computer and printed say half a dozen shots at A4 size on glossy paper which I gave to John. He spoke to his staff/cashier and I got the 20% discount from then onwards. Two acts of kindness which helps explain my liking for the old bar. It was August when a lady of very high status went down Loi Khro road early evening and the tale we picked up from the bar staff via the drivers/bodyguards was that the senior Thai Police chief ended up receiving a sever telling off by the Lady following morning. There was a crack down on how girls behaved and dressed particularly down Loi Khro. I apologies for my incompetence but I am getting old and doing my best. Many old boozers would head for John’s Place when the other drinking dens closed early morning and John would get a rush from the serious drinkers. The chief cashier was John’s eldest daughter, who had just finished getting her degree at CM Uni. Very nice girl early 20s I last heard that she had married and moved to BKK over ten years back. She had at least two other sisters and memory says second sister became a police officer, Major if my memory is correct not in CM. I know my English is very bad, blame the old Coal & Cotton town in N.West England where I learned Reading Ritting and Rithmatic (Add ups, Takeaways, Times and Gussinta ) a rather basic education. I used The Moat yesterday. Clean tidy but no atmosphere. Will use again if I get any old comrades out for a visit and staying in M hotel. John
  17. I do all my Immigration via Assist Thai Visa. I have been with them since they first opened and have zero complaints. My 12 type O visa took less than 5 mins from entering to me and one other guy who had come down with me in their transport leaving. john
  18. Mick it wasn't police that was drove down Loi Khro, and saw young Thai girls in bikini tops, outside the bars. The person was of high influence became very angry and the tale was the senior police office CM ended up ‘tapping the boards’ (old military expression) the following morning, or so we heard at the time. John
  19. Mick believe me CM was much wilder 20 odd years back. There was a crackdown in August, a very senior Thai, had been driven down Loi Khro, in the evening, in her chueffer driven motor and had been disgusted by what was to be seen. The police where told from on high to sort matters out, they did. Most of the old hands I got to meet back in 2001 have now past on. They could tell some tales from Fang and it’s B10 working girls (hill tribe) to the goings on in the Karen Hut. John
  20. In early 2001 most mornings of the week there was a “Meeting” in John’s Place of several police officers. Their bodyguards/drivers would accompany them and sit at another table. On one such morning Johns twin brother was up visiting and that’s when I was told he was the senior police officer who’s area was Pat Pong. This was before the crackdown on bars especially in Loi Khro which happened in August if I remember correctly. John
  21. I first used John s Place when I came to reside in CM back in 2001. Old hands assured me that in years gone by they had a brothel upstairs but that was long gone. I used to take breakfast there and once again old hands had me join in B20-30 and one of the staff (it was a 24 hr operation back then ) would go and purchase a large bag of fried chicken, rice and Thai veg for all to tuck into. I got to know John and met his identical twin brother of who legend said was senior police officer for the Pat Pong district in BKK. I found the staff friendly and certainly liked the place. Several friends who came out for holidays stayed in what became the M hotel and John s Place was our meeting point for a beer or two. John
  22. I was passing on opposite side of moat and it was not convenient to stop. I though I would ask the Chiang Mai experts on this board. John
  23. I came passed John’s Place yesterday afternoon to see that it was now open and that the front bar has been done away with and both bars now one large area. is it still owned by John and s anyone know the opening times ? John
  24. I am 74 English and have received 4 Vac Shots up here in CM over the course of this year. All FREE of charge curtesy of Thai Government. john
  25. Thank you for your replies. My last belt was made at the Burmese Market on the border near Pratchuep Kiri Khan. Hand made and measured up on the spot. Very cheap. However due to medical problems I have not been able to take my normal yearly visit during our Burning season, which I must say was not too bad this year. In previous years I have used two Leather Shops in CM and found both very poor quality. john
