Agreed. Have been told repeatedly by Thai-apologists that scams are mere figments of a farang's imagination.
Been ripped-off several times by "trust-worthy" Thais...Pattaya real estate agent included...????

But that does't make what the American guy did [dislocating his girfriends jaw] any less heinous.
Agreed with what you write about 'male dominated culture looking away in domestic related assaults' and how those issues highlight how in Thailand the attitudes are extremely basic, ancient and somewhat draconian.
I'm not so sure about double standards though. Charges have been filed, requests have been made, request for an arrest warrant made, assistance of the US Embassy in tracking down the boyfriend also made (or will be made) - It seems this is being dealt with seriously, on behalf of another American - not double standards as both were American, the BiB have appeared to apply international standards instead.
Good point!

He needs to be caught, sent back, charged, punished accordingly for his crimes. As should anyone else, Thai or any other nationality whether in Thailand or any other country.
Point being, Thai male dominated culture tends to look away in domestic related assaults...unless it is a foreigner. Double standard rules in this country.

Assaults happen all over Thailand everyday...if these were not foreigners...particularly Americans...they would largely be ignored by police and press...

It is getting so Thais can't have any fun anymore...over-charging for drinks and entertainment...then calling for thugs to teach the tourist a lesson for complaining...is a time honored tradition in Pattaya...

"News Flash!!!" The whole damn world is trying to spy on you...government agencies...social media...and law enforcement...and even some hotels and guesthouses...best to figure they all do!
There is no place to hide or run if you use a computer or cell phone...the deck is stacked against you...do not communicate illegal activity over these devices...
When your device seems to be taking a break...it could be some agency downloading spy software or trying to extract your private info...
Do not completely trust these devices...VPNs may help but are also suspect.

Mr Puritan without vice their would be no Pattiya in fact there would be no phukett in fact no tourists. You do realise that vice for non Thai's is only 10% of total vice in Thailand. You should take a drive down Rachada and look at the beautiful hotels at the side of the road. Don't worry you can't get in as they are reserved for Thai's (they are all brothels).
Was meant as a bit of humor...????

These are my personal observations:
1. Bigger vehicles...full size trucks and suvs...will take more than their fair share of the road.
2. Large motorcycles think they have special privilege to speed, pass on the inside even if you have your left turn signal on and are slowing to turn...give way to their excessive speed and dangerous driving antics.
3. Underage children on motorcycles are totally clueless and must be protected at all cost. They do not always look before changing lanes and pulling out of side streets.
4. Drive defensively. Do not expect all Thais to follow the rules of the road. Expect the unexpected...look for trouble coming out of side streets, crossing the road ahead in front of you and passing to your left...even if you are in the far left lane. Do not be surprised to find vehicles driving the wrong way and heading straight at you.
5. Purchase vehicle cameras to record bad drivers which may cause you to have an accident.
You can drive in Thailand safely and accident free...it requires constant vigilance and a fair amount of luck.
Good Luck to you!

No insurer will go to court over a legitimate claim, it's doubt about the legitimacy that makes them do that, something that they have every right to do.
Yes, of course. I should have used the word "contested claim"...the court desires its legitimacy...I forget sometimes who the audience is here...????

It is high time to cleanup Pattaya...get rid of beer bars, massage parlors, go-go bars, street-walkers, street vendors, and underage beach prostitutes....
Send them back to the Issan rice patties...

There are other...unthinkable options...tell those who would use and abuse...exploit expats...to shove it...take your business elsewhere...let the Thais pickup the tab for all the abandoned women and children in their macho culture...

Ignoring Thai laws comes with decades of non-enforcement. If there is little to no punishment or consequences for breaking Thai laws...why bother to follow them?

Worked with insurance company for years...they are in the business to increase profits every year...denying your claims is money in their pockets...they are willing and able to go to court to deny your legitimate claim if needed to...

U.S. House Democrats prepare for impeachment vote as Trump said to embrace short trial
in World News

Dems have been preparing for impeachment for several years...Russia hoax was a big set-back and disappointment.
This new effort has the seal of approval from lifer bureaucrats, hand-picked experts and of course the usual cast of Dem Congress and Senate never Trumpers.
The cry of "Russia" has been replace with "duty to protect the Constitution".
These weasels and liars are desperate to unseat Trump before the 2020 Presidential election. They could be successful.
Trump is unconventional, at times crude and controversial...dismissing swamp rats who spend all their time trying to sabotage his administration...as well he should.
Be careful what you wish for...
