Yes. It will make it easier for you to get some transactions done, like purchasing a new vehicle or opening a new bank account on your name, or getting a Thai driving license, without having to worry about obtaining a certificate of residence each time. You might also enjoy better treatment at ticket boots of tourist sites or other attractions that apply a dual pricing policy. This however depends very much on discretion of each site. With the yellow book you can get also a Thai ID card to be carried in your wallet; remember to ask for it in case. If you fulfil all requirements for getting your yellow book I wouldn't hesitate if I were you, unless the municipality concerned clearly shows willingness to profit of the situation to extort extra money from you. In fact once you fulfil all requirements it should be issued for free or almost free. I'm talking out of recent experience: I just got mine 4 months ago for free.

You must have met a lot of transactional requirements during that 4 months for ownership to have been such a boon.

Most folks I know have found it to be pretty useless.  Other than having to visit the local immigration office (or local dignitary) for proof of residence.

Well done if it's worked for you.

Well the friend I bought from checked and after getting a refund from Allianz (I think) he said he has not other papers so no compulsory insurance. He leaves the country today.

given that he didn't pay the tax sticker for two or three years its highly unlikely he ever got one, and just bought private insurance supposedly to cover himself.

Question is how do i get one.

May be best left to the missus

The getting is easy. A backlog of responsibilities becomes yours.

I have one vehicle for which I pay an excursive rate which ensures an adequate (approved standard of) repair in order with the manufacturers specifications. Basically it is insured for the correct amount which standard class one couldn't/doesn't fully cover for a third party liability. So I'm paying more to cover that cost. Not a third parties.

For older stuff that level of insurance isn't a viable option for me. They're not regular old stuff and more than 50 years old. I balance that by getting the best 3rd party insurance.

For this year our insurance costs were 213,000 THB.

  3. ned Additional insurance is a personal choice/gamble.

Despite my wife's protestations .......and she normally is amazing efficient......I came to your conclusion that despite being tested at the licensing office in Hang DOng Rd and being given a tax sticker I did not get compulsory coverage.

In any case since my set to last year I want more than the govt coverage. I'm willing to pay all or most of my own damages but not for damage to another car or person. From her hospital bed she has been organising and tells me I'll be insured privately today. She worked out what best suited with her sister and as I have Akané insurance for my other car they chose that at 1900bt. (Third column in green)

I'm not sure this is the end of it as she was insisting before that even with private insurance one still need compulsory insurance.............true? I must find out.

    Thanks

That's true. Hence the term compulsory insurance. It provides a predetermined basic standard of cover determined by the government. Private insurance is additional and enhances the standard of coverage. Only the compulsory insurance is needed to bay the Tabien. The choice/gamble is yours to make.

Have never found a broker that gives a discount for the number of vehicles. Only cheaper/reduced coverage policies seem to be available and I don't consider those to be discounts.

Other than one sedan that's insured by Viriyah all our stuff is insured by AIG. Seems only Viriyah gives my preferred level of coverage for that vehicle.

Class 1 covers own car + other car in accident, class 2 covers own car if no collision (storm, theft) + other car in accident, class 3 covers other car in accident.

Not disputing your interpretation. I did state that my understanding of written Thai was limited.

However there are financially decremental limitations imposed by each classification of policy and all class; 1, 2 and 3 policies aren't the same. Something that's reflected in the cost determined by the value and repair requirements of the vehicle.

There's no possibility that class 2 insurance would cover repair of my older stuff under any circumstance yet a compromise of some payment is achievable. The third party liabilities are more enhanced than any class 3 insurance. Which is why I chose it for my vehicles.

Based on the costs of fully insuring them versus a reasonable cost given the usage. They're effectively trailer queens. I chose what I consider to be my best option(s).

Up to the individual to make their own considerations and choices. The amount of information and related experience passed on can be nothing but helpful. Don't you think?

Missus tells me it’s insured by Akané.......อาคเนย์

Don’t know if u read Thai but it’s the third column below.

I pay 1900 for a 1999 Vitara minus a 100 discount. Benefits and limits are shown in the upper rows

Not that well. But my interpretation is that you aren't presently covered for damage resulting from a collision with a third party vehicle if you were at fault. Other than the personal belongings of that third party.

An injury only policy which improves on the government insurance.

Unsure why Chubb seem to offer 30,000THB for damage to the insured's vehicle if the third party's vehicle isn't insured, though.

I suppose it's Thailand and a lot of conversations could make your policy work favorably. A little too risky for my liking.

We use class 2 insurance for the old stuff. Because it covers third party vehicles. They're so old or modified that class 1 insurance isn't a practical option. And the usage is really low anyways.

    Question is why?
.....and would I not be able to get a multi car discount..

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

You would get a discount if you met the threshold set by an individual insurer.

If the required documentation for both seller and buyer is in order, there shouldn't be any problem.

We insure 8 vehicles and the only discounts available to us are; restrictive drivers and third party only. What companies are you dealing with?

  7. If manufacturers/providers stopped their insistence on passing their pollutants to me. I wouldn't have a problem. 90% (+) of the total content of my bins comes from such sources. Yet the pushers get a pass.

By comparison, If it was a drug problem there would be (deserved) condemnation if the users were mandatorily executed whilst the pushers walked free.

Recycling is a joke without an infrastructure to effectively recycle without a massive carbon footprint.

I hate to see the damage plastic pollution causes to the environment and innocent wildlife. Yet I'm of an age that I remember when plastics were promoted to 'save the trees'. When stopping third world countries trying to make them extinct would have been a much better idea.

Presently I do what I can, but that's SFA in the overall scheme of things. But it's done in a pragmatic way.

    applies to regular Coke too!

The amount of gas within the beverage is actually an important factor. Larger bottles proportionally lose more gas than smaller bottles which can vary dependent on age and storage conditions.

Other beverages suffer similarly (including beers). An example being that to open a Thai beer needs 1 white knuckle of force. A western imported beer needs two white knuckles of force and I've no reason to believe  screw top seals are any different.

Cans are less susceptible yet create a difference of their own.

Dirt in a filter is usually from a garage mother tank, water could be the same but mainly onboard tank condensation, it gets burned off in most cases.

Depends on the gas station and their supplier. Water is pretty much always present in fuels mostly because of condensation somewhere in the delivery/storage process (which includes the vehicle fuel tank).

Low Sulphur fuels are more prone to water contamination and I read (somewhere) that the Revo Toyota motor requirements were pretty stringent in regard to low sulphur content.

    Perhaps there's a gremlin lurking.

Not a trace of water in the filter. That's one of the reasons to clean and check at 30th intervals. It was just dirt from fuel.

As above post I have used it in BKK a few times so more than likely the reason for the dirt in A/C filter.

It's even worse if I go to Pattaya.

Dirt doesn't emulsify. But water and [refined] oils do.

You also commented that your earlier Toyota suffered problems after 30,000 km for the same problem. Rarely seen that level of contamination outside a check weigh failure. Even on 40-50 year old road vehicles.

Changing your local gas station would be a good idea.

What caused the hole in your a.c. filter?

  11. The ac filter contamination is a result of the environment (during burning season?) where the vehicle has been used. Can only wonder of the cause of the tear. Was the air filter in the same condition?

Trump had a noun/pronoun for areas with such environments.

Fuel filter contaminate appears to be water. Try changing your gas station.

Mate is the landlord Thai ? Is your Wife Thai ?

Your Wife is right.... I doubt you will ever see your deposit again.

Take the hit, move on and find something else. I had to do this, not because of the landlord, a psycho ex, so the best way was to leave without a trace, sux, but we are not in a western society... Trying to do it legally will cost you much more than your deposit, your health and for the sake of your child and mother to be, move on. Chalk it up to experience.

Technically TM30's leave a trail. Doubt the landlord could care less though.

No I will get off my <deleted> and do it as I am totally bored today thanks for promting me.

In other words, can't be bothered to do things the correct way. Yet can find time to make many excuses

Ever thought you're just the person they're targeting.  Probably with just cause.

  14. What ratings do you give for the delivery service? Used Lazada quite a few times but always checked the courier. If not Kerry C.O.D. I'll move to another seller.

Having said that, Kerry is suffering from demand of its reliable service. They're not as punctual nowadays but always within the specified time frame.

^ This is true , but we dont need to raise the boiling point much above 212F , we need to transfer more engine heat to the radiator in hot climates. Thats what Water Wetter does. Evans coolant also works well.

Fords design log. Fords specifications for what's needed.

Change the design and the specification alters to match the modification. Because you understand the new requirement.

Don't know of any manufacturer that publishes Design Requirement let alone their Compliance Specifications.

Why are only Fords included as a choice that matches well with your criteria.....They'd be my 4th choice after Toyota, Isuzu, Mits only because Honda doesn't have a larger SUV and Chevy is almost a non entity here....

Could be because it's his criteria. Based upon his personal perception of what he needs to make him happy with his purchase.

in Ramkhamhaeng between Soi 68 and 66 is a Motorcycle Shop, he can do this.
My Friend has make a new Saddle for Harley there.

Can't recall the exact place (and the contact may not be the same)  but the area sounds correct. They outsource to a third party that is good at lateral thinking. Had seats and door cards redone in that area a while back. Not cheap though if you expect (and receive) a quality service.

Cheap is available if you want it. Take the time to look around there.
