  1. Couple months ago I heard this in the CNX intl departure business class lounge used by KE loudly hacking repeatedly disturbing people.. I went around the corner to glare at him, another man did the same. No change. Gave up, retreated put to on bluetooth over the ear headphones thinking If they had me next to this creep on the flight I would have to change seats!

Most Chines hock luigies in the street this guy must have been swallowing his phlegm. A disgusting habit. This must be unhealthful?

  2. Not just the clothes and showering..details details details!

    • After the age of 30 especially if you have spent time in the sun there are things you are going to have to go to a DERMATOLOGIST for. Skin tags, large moles. Do you want to walk around with a disgusting "pore of wiener" on you neck? They may even be pre-cancerous. Get that <deleted> cut off! Start using sunscreen now.
    • Nobody likes old men with huge bushy eyebrows like cockroach antennas, long ear hair. Nostril waxing is available. Facial hair should be avoided, if you must keep it, trim it.
    • I have seen some disgusting feet recently, even on business class flights with otherwise well dressed men. Such as in "Birkenstocks" with yellowed long toenails dirty with sock-lint or dirt. Nothing wrong with a pedicure especially if it is hard to bend down, they even give you a little foot massage at the end! Preferably shoes with socks. Sandals SHOULD be worn with low cut socks only.

  3. Or the equivalent,  "mai mee", followed by offering another distantly related object. This story was not intended to be factual I think its funny for shopkeepers to offer something different instead but they can't just seem to say no directly. Happened many times.

Recently I wanted a USB-type C adapter for my chromebook.  Must have went to 6 shops in Chiangmai all proffered other adapter standards in exchange AS IF that would be of use.

If you think Thai people don't say "no hab", mai mee, or "up to you" you don't really live in Thailand.

So many qualified investigators here.fastening the noose already.

Hang him by all means with a good prior flogging as well....IF he is found Guilty.... NOT BEFORE,

I understand the concern about false allegations, he is wanted for MULTIPLE offenses over a long period. Seldom the case in false allegations I would guess. Thus the rules even doctors and teachers now must use. Not to be alone with an unrelated child.

  5. The article is not clear where he committed his vile offenses. Thailand needs to liason with major countries and get timely lists of offenders. Why did the UK not revoke his passport? Anyway He never should have been let in in the first place, or should have been denied  extensions In the US if you have a DUI  (drink) driving charge, you can't get into Canada. That sounds little extreme? I hear one can apply for a waiver.

Drunk drivers, street brawlers, drug sellers, gangster and criminals and of course sexpests and molestors. If scum risk such crimes in developed countries that enjoy a real judicial system and effective law enforcement, what the hell do you expect is likely to HAPPEN WHEN THEY GET TO THAILAND? The quiet life watching tv in bed by 8pm with a cup of warm cocoa?

Still not racism. Just taking their chances on people that can´t say something and ask for an explaination in Thai.

In a restaurant, I would call that mean and nasty, and if you can say something they know that it´s not legal to do that if they no have open signs that states the before you order.

A privately run lake that I think backs up on a NP with a parking lot sign in Thai lanna script that says yee sip bhat and in roman block letters FOREIGNER 200 BAHT is not racist, as I could in some alternate reality show my Thai passport. Now to run off and marry a Thai Woman hoping my application passes the appropriate Ministry reviews before I die.

If there is no "world class" attractions! Then whats the problem? Are you trying to say there is nothing to look at? Why then complain about price on something not worth looking at? Or can it be just a personal opinion, and you see it like there is no world class attraction. Maybe that is based on the ever growing "Unhappiness of having to pay".

About the economics. I believe you should let the people that set the price figure that out.

One thing, though! "Savvy punters"? Do that word have the same negative pling, like "so called attractions"?

Let me simplify it for you. There is a nondescript lake with an average restaurant. They charge you twice as much as a Thai to drive in, and that kind of bothers me. 5 kilometers father down the highway there is a some kind of ranch and another average restaurant, no open racism

We can let the owners decide the economics but I prefer to skip the place with racist pricing. Same with National Parks. I was taken to one waterfall where the food stalls were swarming with black flies and the parking lot overrun with aggressive dogs. It smelled like hot dog poo. Masochism at any price.

Good luck with attaining Thai citizenship.

Dual Pricing in Thailand is based on Racism.

I don't do tourism so will never visit the Pyramids, Macchu Picchu, or the Petra fortifications, if I did want to I would be happy to pay a fee, but let me ask you a question If a white American is a permanent resident of for example, Jordan, is he allowed to visit Petra at the local rates? Or Egypt and the Pyramids? In my country (US) there are locals discounts for various attractions for example Japanese may feel they are fleeced going into a Honolulu nightclub but all they have to do is show local ID simple as Hawaii drivers license or a student ID card and get the local rate.  A very easy thing to acquire even if resident for a few months. Many American citizens are actually of Japanese descent and look like it too, do they get charged for their skin color? Absolutely not. Such a policy is NOT RACIST

Thailand on the other hand uses an extremely high standard, Thai citizenship, which is not racism itself, but it is is almost impossible for most to achieve, and results in creating a similar barrier. Go to Wat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai. I don't really mind paying the 30 Baht entrance fee as I drop much more on merit making for upkeep on the Temple but I have seen many times only people who look like me get pulled aside. Small groups of Chinese or Asians among Thai friends get a pass. The Farang who has worked here for decades gets charged, even if he is a PR holder!

There is also the nonsense concept of Foreigners have money they should pay, the typical Thai excuse. In the above example the rich Thai who drove his Mercedes to the Temple gets in free. The busload of Swedish pensioners who may have saved for years to afford such an excursion get fleeced. Dual Pricing in Thailand is fundamentally racist, and I cant get over that.

What´s the point of a thread specific about that dual pricing is so horrible in Thailand, when it exists in many places even outside Asia?

Threads like this is continuing to feed all the day by day complainers on this forum.

No, I don´t think it´s such a big deal so that it has to be the top pick thread in a forum like this for a day or two.

I see but Thailand has no world class attractions, and it is there business to apply racist pricing schemes based on nothing more than a poorly thought out concept that "foreigners have money, pay more". Income would be increased if they charged all a fair price, with the standard set of discounts for the aged, kids, a locals discount, and a season pass.  As it is savvy punters give most of these so called "attractions" a pass and they lose revenue.

Ok, now we have to come to the point here. Maybe you were lucky in Hanoi, otherwise dual pricing is something very common and practised all over Asia.

A visit at Petra in Jordan can be up to 90 times higher cost for foreigner than for locals.

In India and Pakistan it can be from 10-20 times more axpensive at attractions for non citizens.

Iran is another example that rates between 5-8 times higher price for foreigners.

The temple of Tooth, Sri Lanka will charge foreigners while locals enter free.

Entrance to the Pyramids of Egypt will also use dual pricing.

Machu Picchu in Peru, will charge foreigners 70 usd, while many nearby countries only pay 37 usd and the locals go for free.

Mayan city of Chichén Itzá, on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, overseas visitors will be asked for 242 pesos (US$12) to enter the pre-Columbian archaeological site. Mexican nationals are charged 162 pesos.

I could go on for a while, but I guess you already got the point.

What is the point, you support racism?

Or 10 times pricing to see a dirty waterfall is a comparible to Machu Picchu?

  11. Every nation has its racists, I've traveled plenty and have witnessed it in many places. What kills me are these fools that pretend it doesn't exist because it's not 'proper or fashionable politically'. Sometimes these morons are more dangerous than the blatant ignoramuses who are overt about it, at least the avowed racist isn't also a hypocrite. What is really surprising (at least to me) is that some the worst nations offenders also have what is considered high educational standards. I guess that just proves that old adage of just because you are educated does not necessarily equate to being intelligent.

I don’t have issue with what you wrote but as a minority American even our open avowed white racists don’t push dual pricing.

I'm pretty sure that IO's aren't completely clear on this either.

On my return from a two week trip within Thailand this week, staying at four different hotels in three different provinces, I presented myself to my local immigration office, where I was told I didn't need to report as I hadn't left the country, a mate of mine went to the same office yesterday, probably a different IO, and was advised that he needs to "check in" if he visits another province for 24 hours or more.

If IO's in one small office can give conflicting advice, how on earth are we supposed to get it right?

When they started TM 30 enforcement a few years ago in Chiang Mai I was given this conflicting information by two officers at the same desk. When asked for clarification after my 1600 baht fine was paid one of them literally said "Up to you". Like they would be happy to take it again?

  13. What's the point of having strict gun laws, ie CAL when you can simply drive over to states with lax gun laws and fill the boot with ak 47's and pump action shotguns and drive back home.?
No point banning guns and closing down factories because they will simply relocate to Mexico and ship them in illegally same as drugs & people.
The yanks are stuck with this problem.

Well, Guns are strictly controlled in Mexico
The guns there come form the US
Smuggle drugs in, Cash and weapons out.

  14. Petition our home countries to apply the same rules and track Thai nationals every step.

That would get their attention much more than this petition lol

I’d like to see a law against Thais buying land unless reciprocal rights are allowed, Sounds fair but in our case (US)discrimination against a particular Nationality would be unconstitutional. Dual Pricing would be met with Outrage. We don’t even have a house registration system.

  15. FredGhallagher posted that nobody gives up US citizenship. Simply not true.

I knew people who stayed in Chiang Mai for years on ED Visas (with no other option). They are all gone. The Hand to Hand Combat Visa, not cheap, used to be foolproof. Not so much anymore. No matter if you are a DM or not, under 50, not working for a Thai company, not married, few options left other than IGLU or Thailand Elite. The "free rider" DMs contribute to the economy by spend and many would be willing to pay income tax in Thailand but it is not feasible with the current employment model.  The "Border Bounce" nonsense living in Thailand on Tourist visas is not feasible either.

Your listening to the wrong channel or people then. NO ONE gives up a US passport. It seems you no nothing about US tax law.

Ludicrous. Eduardo Saverin, Boris Johnson, Prince Albert of Monaco, TS Eliot?  As previously noted you know are suffering some fundamental misunderstanding of US tax code. I wont link to the Guardian but Boris and 5,410 people renounced US citizenship in 2016.
