  1. This sounds like it was just a mistake and really no ones fault, but the new staff member did not want to pay for it. My guess is that if the owner were around it would have been resolved with no hard feelings.

..another good reason to pay for your beers as you order each one.

  2. ..am trying to get this sign translated for you..looks like two bridges with large excavated hole supported by interlocking steel formwork.

Some guy mentioned a water turbine, but will wait until further info available..perhaps another TV member can translate for us.

Thanks for that. From what I have been told, from your photo, they maybe making a gate across the river. I would presume this to be more for flood or river depth control for the city rather than for turbine generators.

CMSally, you may be right on the turbine but it doesnt seem like a good investment! As for flood or river depth control, maybe that is why they have just rebuilt the road and added a foot in height!

..more info..the partly constructed water gate, due for completion in November 2011 is to assist in controlling the volume of water at this point in the river if it rises to flood level.

The two briges are only temporary to allow heavy machinery to access to and from whilst the gate is being constructed then will probably be removed..so no permanent thoroughfare.

You can also visit the site office as I did and inquire further. Hope this helps.

  4. Just remembered....it was a museum I think for scared wood......anyone know where it is ?

Scared wood......shiver me timbers ( sorry, that's the best I can up with so far )

..do they use it to make 'quivers' ??

  5. Is it because those who have lived her for so many years are fed up with questions that have been answered before on various forums within Thai Visa?

Or is it because those who have lived here for so many years have forgotten what it was like for them in their earlier years of arriving here in total bewilderment

    I think it's a combination of the above. :(

Yes I incline to agree...But forgive me if I repeat what I have already said....Give a little latitude and try to be kind to those who are beginning their lives here! C'mon people .....give a little and try to be more understanding of those in need.

There but for the grace of god , go I...into a world I do not comprehend nor have the grace to respond with human kindness! due to my innermost fears of understanding of this new life..

..God should always have a capital "G"

  6. Thanks all for the info....i think as suggested via Lamphum, Lampang is a good choice..as for the "short cut" I wonder about the condition of the route which is less travelled....thanks again..

..the shortcut is a secondary road in very good condition, with little traffic and through some beautiful countryside..i take this road all the time..Google Earth and see for your self.

  7. I would go 11 past Lampang to Denchi and 101 up to Nan at Den chi go straight follow the sign to Praee other roads are slow and curvy you get a lot of 4 lane this route. Maybe 5 hour trip.

..you can turn left as you come down off the mountain (1023) before Den Chai..this road takes to into Phrae where you can keep to the right of the city (1022) and join up with the highway again (101)..saves at least 30 minutes.

  8. Its in the newspaper today advertising the Mr Churro Donut Shop advertising its giving away 2,000 free donuts this Saturday the 18th June 2011 . Its the 1 year promotion special. The shop is in Soi 7 Suthep Road behind the Chiang Mai University. Tel 083 1562144. I've actually been to the shop many times and its surprising how good these donuts are and not to mention the Churros. They have 1 foot donut for 20baht.

I will be in the line for the donut

..this is a great promotion..have eaten them before out of his numerous brightly motor cy carts around the city..brightly coloured donut shaped, smart and easy to spot.

His in-house produce is just as good as it looks..he has really got it right. Bright, clean premises with free internet, good range of drinks, a great drop-in place, plenty of parking.

Frist in best dressed. Happy birthday Mr. Churro Donut.

  9. That part about being presented with a bill a week later is horrific. Some of these people really do need a good kicking,

..slightly off topic, but relevant to restaurants..a friend related his story where he returned to this restaurant after having been absent from Thailand for 7 months.

on sitting down prior to ordering, the waitress brought him the bill tray with 70 baht on it..appears my friend was charged for some item not consumed there 7 months earlier..so there you go..works both ways doesn't it!

  10. Call me cynical, but my feeling all the evidence has been "sanitized" / contaminated / removed by Thailands finest and associated prior to any international bodies getting involved....international bodies investigate find nothing conclusive or definitive...All is happy again in Chang Mai....:whistling:

Thailand saves "face" by stating international body investigates and finds no connection in these deaths and they were all unrelated....inclusive of the elderly couple who died a few hours apart in the same room.....

..they did use some 'big' words in the article..you obviously have no expertise in forensics else you'd accept what has been stated. How much more information do you need before you accept what has eventuated.

To put the minds of the community at ease (including all the arrm-chair CSI experts),the Thai Health Dept sought the asistance and expertise of International specialists ie epidemiologists, toxicologists, forensic pathologists etc..(who might i add are not there to just satisfy your doubts).

Once the Coroner reads all this he/she will most probably make an 'open finding' (this means the cause of death is undetermined but appears to be by natural causes, seeing as no raised levels or any substance, compound, chemical have been detected).

Each case has to be examined independently and not a sweeping decision made for all those concerned, after all the deaths at that premise were spread out over 2 months, with only the elderly couple presumed to have died on the same day).

You can't just make up a story. Some of the patrons appear to have been sick or carrying whatever virus/bacterium prior to arriving at these premises, one died elsewhere.

So how do you expect the judiciary to make a clear decision.

You may imply contamination/sanitization/removal..seems you're hinting on inteference of evidence, which is a very serious matter.

IMO the Thai Forensic Science officers are up there with the world's best.

  11. Thanks trainman34014 and Dean1953. Very much appreciated.

..in Loi Kroh Road there is an artist who is there all day and evening..sets up outside and old abandoned guesthouse where a small wine bar also sets up..approx 20m west of Chiang Mai Saloon Bar. He is a very talented artist, can do original works, copies from photos etc at a very reasonable rate as no real overheads where he is.

  12. Wish I could help but my A- has aged a little to long. I did't know blood had an age rquirement. Hope she can find some young blood.

My blood is in phetchabun anyhow so it's probably a case of to old and to far away. Good luck.

..mine too..apparently it is Thai Health Dept. regulation..age cut-off re risk for heart conditions..however if you have a Certificate of Good Health from a GP they will take the donation.

  13. Chlorpyrifos (WIKIPEDIA)

    Health effects

Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate, with potential for both acute toxicity at larger amounts and neurological effects in fetuses and children even at very small amounts.

For acute effects, the EPA classifies chlorpyrifos as Class II: moderately toxic. Recent research indicates that children exposed to chlorpyrifos while in the womb have an increased risk of delays in mental and motor development at age 3 and an increased occurrence of pervasive developmental disorders such as ADHD.[13] An earlier study demonstrated a correlation between prenatal chlorpyrifos exposure and lower weight and smaller head circumference at birth.[14]

A 2010 study found that each 10-fold increase in urinary concentration of organophosphate metabolites was associated with a 55% to 72% increase in the odds of ADHD in children.[15]

Studies have shown evidence of "deficits in Working Memory Index and Full-Scale IQ as a function of prenatal CPF exposure [as measured when the children reach] 7 years of age."[16]

Effects on marine life and bees

Chlorpyrifos is highly toxic to amphibians, and a recent study by the United States Geological Survey found that its main breakdown product in the environment, chlorpyrifos oxon, is even more toxic to these animals.[17]

The substance is very toxic for aquaculture (fish) and bees

...IMO...I think the 'Chlorpyrifos bed-bug spray' has been sprayed directly into the air-conditioning system as a cheap method of spraying all rooms prio to start of High Season...this would account for the spasmodic yet widespread effect to other patrons..particularly their MO of death. Should each of their toxicology reports return similar levels on their Toxicology Analyses; then a parallel can be drawn. Of course the results are being kept confidential and on a need to know basis, hence the results of an independent analysis it seems instigated by the 60 Minutes programme has at least brought this to public attention. What is needed now is the Thai Health Minister and Forensic Science Deputy Director Dr. Porntip take over the matter and fully investigate it.

  14. An earlier notice...

    amazing!!!..

9 yrs to catch him.... very efficient , the process

a couple of things I didn't get from these articles.

Where about in Thailand he was?

why did it take that long to capture him?

how the guy with to kids was killed?..............i read the 1st article that the police, Western Australia didn't want to reveal it.

..have you ever heard of the legal expression sub judice..why would the WA DPP reveal any facts and thus weaken their case..you may not be aware that media speculation is damning enough and can create an unfair situation both for the accused and the victim. PS It took about the same length of time to get Mr. Bin Ladin..the point is he was..geez what do you people expect..there are probably hundreds of people on the run from many countries at any given time..Interpol are a very busy organization..my two bobs worth ;)

  15. ..almost opposite to Chiang Mai Plastic Co, in Warorot Market (one way street heading south out of the market) is large fabric store run by middle aged Indian/Thai couple..have all manner of fabrics..Im sure they have suede
