As I said in a previous post, I worked in mining towns. I had a wife and two kids. It took me a day longer to leave than a single guy with a suitcase. When you want to leave, you leave. If you don't want to leave, deep down in your heart, everything becomes an excuse.

I think you may be correct. Over time people become institutionalised.

Sell the fishing gear. Dump the cd's and DVD's they're worthless. Nobody uses them anymore. Tools maybe ok but not power tools, sell them. Do you really need them? Computers become out of date rapidly. Back everything up and sell them. Furniture - replace in the States. Not trying to have all the answers, but if you really, really, want to go, just do it. I worked in mining towns for a lot of my working career. There is always someone who declares they are leaving for whatever reason. Met one guy who said this when I first arrived. He was still saying the same thing when I left 10 years later!

It's not hard if you really want to. Expensive agreed. All of your electrical appliances are no good in the US. Sell them here. What's left? Not a lot. A few clothes. Furniture can be replaced stateside.
