At the door it is discriminating against Thai foreigners with dual pricing.
you can trim the fat but it's still the same meat .
This is not a what if policy . Disneyland and Disney World are charging Foreigners a different price based on where they are from. Thai tourists do not qualify for the discount and the Original Poster does not qualify either.
He could make the exact same complaint about the Disney prices and no one would care about it. Apparently its only wrong if it happens in Thailand.
-
California Disneyland and Florida Disneyworld both dual price Thais and all foreigners as well as people from the other 49 states by giving residents of California or residents of Florida a discounted price.
https://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201901/6519/
It does not make it right in Thailand, it just tells you that there are "dual pricing jerks" everywhere . If you think the complaining is the solution then fine , but don't call it a fair complaint when you only fight it in Thailand and not everywhere else.

Exchange rates within the airport premises are the same for all booths/banks and about 4% to 7% worse for major currencies (from own observation).
I've been through Suvarnabhumi Airport 6 times since November 22nd 2018.
(3 arrivals + 3 departures)
Exchange rates on the basement level of the Suvarnabhumi Airport ( only next to the airport rail ticket booth) are not the same as the other exchange booth rates within the airport.
Rates fluctuate daily.
The rate at that basement airport area on February 1st 2019 was 31.08 baht to 1 US dollar.
The best available consumer rate I found in Bangkok was 31.13 baht to 1 US dollar.
If you are still in doubt , the best I can do is post the 2 receipts I kept from that day.
200 USD @31.08 was 6216 baht Airport basement
200 USD @31.13 was 6226 baht Soi Arab Sukhumvit.
The Banks were buying @ 31.19 on that day so the margin is well below the 4% to 7% mentioned above . That would only apply to the other exchange booths throughout the airport
and not the basement area near the airport rail ticket booth.
True, not the place to change 10,000.00 USD .
A few hundred to get started while losing 10 to 20 baht is not a bad compromise for me to make
The OP has decided to pursue other options, others may have not been aware of these options.
The use of basement exchange booths go hand in hand with using the airport rail system. People who use limos to Pattaya , taxis to Sukhumvit or Hotel pickup services have their own comfort zone and even the worst airport exchanges booths upstairs are just fine with them.

The Swampy basement Super Rich kiosk gets mighty busy at times. If you’re only changing up a small amount then you might save time by just using the first available option.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSuper Rich paved the way for many other companies to open exchange booths in the same area as well as other tourist services like Vietnam visas and phone rentals etc.
This post is not intended to "bait you" but to notify you that things have changed quite a bit since the last time you passed through that area of the Suvarnabhumi Airport.

I have enough pocket money from my last trip to cover transport and a meal or two, so can wait until the morning to go to Vasu again, but if the airport offers decent rates maybe I can save myself a trip.
As I wrote before, the rates are great considering the way airport exchange services seem to gouge prices (my home airport not only gives a poor rate but they also charge a commission ) . However, ....... since there is no urgency and you do have other options you can satisfy your curiosity by writing down the basement area rates and then compare those with Vasu.
Good luck.

If you are unsure , then Best to do a quick google check for the rate of the day.
Compared to the best rates I get on soi Arab
(between Sukhumvit soi 3 and soi 5) and the hassle of just getting there , It's a better option for me to stop at the basement exchange booth area next to the airport rail ticket booth .
-
It depends on where you exchange your money at the airport . The best rates are on the bottom floor near the Airport rail ticket booth to the left. Super Rich was the only booth at one time but now there are quite a few offering comparative city rates.
The rates at other exchange booths in the airport are not as competitive and they seem to be hoping for customers who are unaware that there are better options downstairs .NEXT TO THE AIRPORT RAIL TICKET BOOTH ON THE LEFT SIDE... not the ones downstairs near the food service areas.
While you're at it you might also want to use that airport rail to get you closer to your final
destination (if you are not carrying a sh!tl0ad of luggage and would prefer a taxi). For example for lower to mid Sukhumvit It's 35 baht to the Makkasan exit near Asoke then take a 40+ baht taxi (depending on traffic) .....or if you are staying near an MRT station you can transfer from the Airport rail to the MRT at that station.

When you visit Thailand for the purpose of leisure, sight-seeing and personal enlightenment, you are a tourist. . A tourist is not allowed to work or conduct business in Thailand . Having one vote out of millions to elect a party who will maybe do what they promised to do helps what? And what if none of the parties has "get rid of double pricing" on their agenda?
I could create my own party, which has this on the agenda. Or i could start working at the department of national parks. But afaik both is not possible as a naturalized citizen.
That a naturalized Thai citizen would pay the Thai price is the point most relevant to this thread.
Also accurately pointed out by Newnative is the fact that Thais are charged on a different scale than other nationalities when they enter my country as tourists compared to my free visa on arrival or even the paltry amount I pay to extend it.

Afaik a naturalized Thai is a citizen second class and does not have full rights.
For example he can't work in a Thai government job, so how would becoming a Thai citizen help changing laws?
If being able to vote does not help change laws then I don't have any other recommendations to suggest.
"Elections in Thailand
The voter must be a national of Thailand; if not by birth, then by being a citizen for 5 years. They must be over 18 years old the year before the year the election is held. The voter must have also registered ninety days before the election at his constituency."
-
"Does that make it right then? Imagine this kind of thing happening in the UK or the states to Asian people.. There would be absolute uproar and rightly so! Free for Americans but asians must pay! Could you imagine?? CBS news would have a meltdown!"
Please do me a favor and find out how much it costs for a Thai tourist to visit New Zealand , USA or Great Britan for thirty days. (don't forget the non- refundable fees for those who are rejected for various reasons ). Also , you do have the option of becoming a Thai citizen and receiving the same treatment as a regular Thai.
Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application
Currently the price structure of entry to this Landmark is legally posted.
The face value of your complaint only matters if you were treated differently than any other foreigners who showed up on that day. You were not tricked , lied to ,misled or deceived in any way. If you wish to protest or challenge Thai laws, principles or practices you may have a better chance as an actual citizen of the Kingdom with full rights.

It's such a common theme but it confuses me. Why would one spend valuable time in a place that one mostly complains about. seems like madness?
_____________________________________________________________
Several reasons come to mind.
It happens over and over where the flocks of cheap living expats invade certain places and try to "boss the bull around" with their high opinions of themselves and low opinions of the population and cultures they live in but refuse to assimilate......
["They can't even speak english" "they're corrupt," "they're drive on the wrong side of their roads......." Why don't they kiss my butt and kowtow like they used to?]
Then because you can't have it your way, you take your balls and go to someone else's home country. Wash ,rinse, repeat.
There was a fable that I grew up with called "The Emperor's New Clothes" .
We all read it I'm sure, without missing the point that the Emperor had been conned into believing something that everybody else knew was false, but afraid to tell him .
What you are seeing now is that realization coming to fruition on the part of the Thai government and people towards a certain type of Foreigner who had them convinced of something that proved to be false . "we thought western Foreigners were rich," " we thought western foreigners were intelligent, we thought western foreigners were superior to us in technology , education and moral judgement ."
There are large numbers of those who overstay or don't meet the financial qualifications for a proper visa.
Also, the new wave of Chinese, North Asian, Indian, and Russian tourism continued to bolster the Thai economy by leaps and bounds to the tune of an estimated 2 trillion Baht last year.
high profile but low maintenance, I don't foresee a Chinese flyers club in Pattaya when they realize they've hit rock bottom in their finances . They come, they see, they go.
Western Foreigners can't compete with these numbers. Western Foreigners don't have a designated lane for passport control. and they are not riding in full tour buses down narrow lanes all over Bangkok and other cities in Thailand. We can have all the pride and self esteem in the world but it appears that the party is over and a loud call for you to get out of the pool is being made over the lifeguards' megaphone.
It's like the restaurant or bar that claims "members only" to the people who are known to sit for a long time and spend very small amounts.
Ever hear the expression "wearing out your welcome" .
Harassment: Maybe not on Thaivisa but on other forums a lot of people complained about , or were incensed by, the high profile African pimps and their girls on Sukhumvit who were eventually thinned out by checking their paperwork thoroughly . Guess what , be careful what you ask for because now that they are gone, those same officers still have a job to do. Now we are hearing more and more about western foreigners being heavily scrutinized at checkpoints and ports of entry.
Harassment, Self entitlement, lack of peace of mind and a financial Inability to survive comfortably,...................... pick your poison,

It's not the first time she's gone bareback, so there are more results than just her period to consider waiting for......
I believe the OP is in a slightly different category than that of an average pay for play participant. Based on a few experiences I had in the 1990s, when I looked a lot younger there is one thing I found out.
There are 2 types of currency in Thailand "Cash" and "Face" and what you don't give her in cash she extracts in the form of "face". Maybe in her view and those around her, she pursues a noble cause by having a normal acceptable relationship with someone in her own age group who she relates to and cares about while she suffers the penance of laying beneath drunken overweight over-aged slobs to earn money towards supporting herself and her family.
Young Bar girls tend to look for young Thais to commit to (that guy you always see sitting on the moto when you come to barfine her ?) or younger Foreigners (she shows you where all the parties and clubs are, you don't pay her a dime and even sometimes she asks you to stay at her place so you don't have to "pay hotel" ) See , I'm not really a prostitute I just play one on TV.
Just as the old guys look for the pretty young girl to display as eye candy at a casino or expensive restaurant, you are each others social trophy. A) I scored a Thai girlfriend for free while other guys are paying through the nose.
B) She scored a young handsome foreigner who could easily find a chick his own age in his own country.
Aren't we special and proud? The problem ? The ugly "Face" of another head ....the actual family . In a lot of cases a child is being taken care of by the parents while she works , aged family members are unable to work (no social security), a gambling or drug addicted relative has debts that need to be addressed, and more pressure " we took care of you now you must take care of us "(more famous in Vietnamese prostitution) "you can't just sit around the house all day"..." your brother needs money for cigarettes" , "your father needs a new pickup truck......" how could we have raised such an ungrateful child"
"Appun next door went to Phuket and met a good man who supports her whole family why can't you?"
I remember reading some rule about daughters having more responsibility for the family than the Sons.
You need to address the fact that there are way too many options for employment in Thailand than for her to just plop down in that environment and say this will be my vocation.
My view on deep relationships with Thai women who are not self sufficient, is to be prepared to become a victim of financial incest. You might not have any intentions to < F #$ censored> them but they sure as heck are planning to < F #$ censored> you. It starts with the "sin sod" and it ends with the divorce after everything finally gets registered in her name. Sorry for the cynicism ................. I've heard it better said that in Asia you don't just marry the girl you marry the family so if you choose to continue make sure you thoroughly investigate what's going on in that realm of her life . Blood is thicker than water. Don't ask her to choose between a one month acquaintance and a lifetime bond.
If you bring her home to your country be prepared to lie on the visa application . Prostitution is not considered as a stable or suitable form of income. http://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/uk-tourist-visa.phphttp://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/uk-tourist-visa.php

Wiki puts the total at 6% when "all" Khmer ethnicity data is combined......Khmer ,Mon-Khmer etc.......

Seth _ how can buggers going with ladyboys enhance your ability to bonk real girls? doesn't make sense. Since there buggers (true sense of the word) only want lady boys' <deleted>.
Hey, nice trick changing what I said to argue with yourself about a point I did not make.
What I wrote" the guys who come to see Ladyboys are not competing with me by bar-fining the bargirls that I come to see . At my age that raises my odds in a good way. "
What you implied by "enhance your ability" does not address the numbers. Those guys and ladyboys are not being replaced by other Thais or Western guys in the same numbers. The Indians are trying to negotiate 1 girl to 10 guys and bring paper cups to split the 1 beer, The Koreans are holding their own, The japanese are being asked ridiculous prices and the Chinese are slowly beginning to get a clue on how to negotiate.
"Odds" generally concern numbers in comparison, Abilities generally concern attributes "THEY'RE" not the same thing. If 7 guys walk into Nana Plaza and 6 of them (3 ladyboy employees and 3 guys) walk out together how does that not raise my odds of walking out of Nana Plaza with the girl I came to see? Have you ever heard of Bisexuality? Have you ever seen a large group of guys exit a 100% girl bar after 15 minutes and then head over to a ladyboy bar for 30 minutes? Sit on the 2nd floor rail outside and watch what happens all night over and over .
Did you know that "THERE" are 1,800,000 more women than men in Thailand based on this years 69,269,000 total estimate? Look it up, I'm not exaggerating. Subtract more men from their column for the gay thais, the ladyboys and married
Thais with non-bargirls as their Mia Noi(girl on the side). Did you know that there are less lesbians and overweight behemoth women in Thailand than the USA where I come from ? My point ? Less men available for the Thai women who are interested in men, means more women available for me at 64 for the prices I paid when I was 40. Step into Thermaes on Sukhumvit and you'll see wall to wall women waiting to be picked up by a handful of cashed up North Asian customers. I also found a way to benefit from the odds against a Westerner having any luck in that environment. (also note:Ladyboys are not allowed inside Thermaes) ."Marcusarelus" must have been reading my mind about the Macbeth Quote "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" .I wanted to post exactly the same quote but my battery crapped out on me.

As for his "missus" - Judging by his fondness for ladyboys .... well .... are you thinking what I'm thinking ??
You seem to be trying to guide people into "thinking what you're thinking" instead of drawing their own conclusions. So what's going on here , did you have a competing site that failed ? Did he beat you out for some "real" girl that you were both after ? Is it the ten bucks he never paid you back? I really don't buy all this Ladyboy slander and character assassination as justification for the personal attacks against someone who is not here to give their side of the story.
I'm not interested in the details of another mans private sex life, where I come from it comes across as a prissie thing for a man to do. I respect the fact that he was able to make something viable out of a simple idea and have it last as long as it did. Beyond that, the original point of my post was to inform people who were unaware of the fact that the Stickman site had returned to it's previous level of operation. If you have something to say to him, say it to him personally. His email address is usually somewhere at the bottom of his web-page.

Xenophobic maybe, but racist can't be the right word considering the following statistics :
Approximately 75 percent of the population are Thai, and 14 percent are ethnic Chinese. Other ethnic groups include Malay-speaking Muslims (4 percent), Khmers (1.3 percent), Soai, or Kui (1.3 percent), Karen (1.3 percent), and Indians and Pakistanis (.4 percent).
This was a pretty hot issue back in November 2018 in Phuket
http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/breakingnews/30358884
Chinese-speaking Thai guides take to Phuket streets...................
“There is a lot of news that speaks about illegal tour guides who have stolen our jobs. We are now in trouble, as tour-guiding is a reserved occupation for Thai people only.
“Any tour operator who breaks the law shall be fined up to Bt500,000. We hope that we will get cooperation from you,” the letter stated. "

If you miss the site, it's back in general operation again with his weekly column
and continued publishing of the readers submissions. The site was sold but he returned as a paid contributor to the daily/weekly operations of the site.
If you've been to the site you can pretty much decipher what you may have read here that is BS
otherwise known as verbal feces.
Don't understand the logic of hating Ladyboys when that means the guys who come to see Ladyboys are not competing with me by bar-fining the bargirls that I come to see . At my age that raises my odds in a good way.
He wrote a few recent columns containing the insights and perspectives gained from his new partner aka "The Missus" about what a lot of Thai women are doing while we sleep at the wheel and how they even have a private facebook page that rats out guys who are cheating..........Stickmans' site is not for everybody and maybe a little conservative since he does not promote a live fast die hard " F" em all agenda............It's not Pulitzer, but a decent read and it keeps me in touch with the town when I'm out of town.

In California the
“Open container” ticket is up to $250. or approximately 7750baht.
I guess it depends on where you're from when something like this is considered a ripoff or a surprise.
One thing I hate to say here is that they may have pulled you over with the help of a third party..... but I'll let you figure that out for yourself.
