  1.     And for the few who are interested in becoming  a Ladyboy it's an inexpensive way to kick off your hormone treatments.  No longer an urban myth to me because I actually witnessed a few heavy milk drinkers develop a serious set of man boobs. One had the ability to produce a few drops of  his own milk to amuse the people who joked about it. It does not happen to everyone but would you seriously want to take that chance by flooding your body with milk laced with growth enhancement hormones?  I also witnessed it as far back as 1970 . College classmate drank 1 glass of chocolate milk and 2 glasses of regular milk at lunch everyday of the week... It scared me straight to the orange juice and water dispensers.

I'm long ago convinced of this correlation so really suggest you post your own stand alone comments instead of trying to argue with me about it. .........

  2. A few years ago a Thai friend invited me to see his new 3bdr 3.5bath townhouse to evaluate a few concerns. It was in a  gated community with all the amenities etc.... The upper level wallboard had seam cracks wide enough to see outside.  The bottom level track lighting for the kitchen did not work because the wiring was flooded as a result of the upstairs bathroom drain being clogged (brown water stains on the ceiling was the clue) I persuaded him to call the maintenance manager over since they were now responsible for repairs to the unit. They cut open the drain pipe to reveal the tile layers had unsuccessfully tried to get rid of their excess work materials by using the drain. It had simply hardened inside the pipe. (I guess running  water to clear the drain would have ruined their tile installation so they  conveniently forgot about it . )

Also, about one year later all owners ended up suing  because the retaining wall surrounding the compound was beginning to crack and lean. Eventually all concerns were remedied through maintenance and not the builder.

The key point is that the building contractor had signed off responsibility for repairs to the maintenance staff. This essentially gives the contractor the freedom to repeat the same unaccountable errors over and over again on newer contracts.

Slightly off topic but the upside to his purchase of the unit was the increase in market value over a short amount of time.  Looking up that property for this post, I noticed prices had gone up significantly in the last 2 years.   He paid about 8,000,000.00 baht compared to units in the same compound that are now being listed as high as 11,900,000 baht.  .........It turned out to be well worth the inconvenience in the long run. Others have not been as lucky as he was.

If you do buy then please thoroughly pre-check your purchase .

If you build then you should  "be there"  from time to time while they " do that "  to insure against obvious attempts to cut corners or cover up any potentially catastrophic blunders.

  3. A tale of two Thai women. Both grew up a year apart in the same home with the same education ,language and social influences .

One was engaging, inquisitive, inventive , emotionally available , demure, happy go lucky, optimistic, frugal and altruistic to a fault. The other was the exact opposite. They were sisters .The better of the two (in my opinion) would offer me a threesome from time to time with friends who had come up short on their finances, ask for small change to give to the poor when we were out and even asked for a loan just before my birthday that eventually got returned in the form of a gift of equal value.

One day she showed up unexpectedly with her sister and the fireworks began. All attempts at polite conversation with her sister gave her sister the opportunity to comment on people she did not like, things she would not do , how I should cut my nails and style my hair and even a five minute argument about why I should not take a planned tour of Myanmar because the people there were not as good as Thais.  When I couldn't take it anymore I invented a story about a forgotten  appointment and told them to make sure to lock the door when they left. The moral of my story is that people can be just as different in Thailand as they are anywhere else in the world.

It seems like the OP has made a long term commitment and is intent on keeping his vows or promises  to stay the course. I wish him all the best but if it's a road that she does not want to travel, then she's going to be kicking and screaming all the way ........Love is an abstract  concept.

A long time ago I had a western girlfriend who truly believed that people in love bickered and even physically fought with each other as a sign of affection because that's what her mother , father and everyone else she knew did . She was really disappointed with my lack of drama ....I don't date western women anymore. ..........Bat$h!t crazy is a complement where I come from.

Again, I Wish you luck and hope things change for the better.

  4. This is just a ramble based on conversations from 25 years ago so no need get into a heated argument about it.

I'm not a scholar on the issue but in the mid 1990s we sometimes had these discussions concerning  China's potential for being able to easily amass a 20 million man army due to the large disparity between males to females in their population. Some theorized a high level of homosexuality and others theorized that they would be spilling over into neighboring regions. Vietnam was already shipping brides to lonely Chinese farmers and widowers at that time. Vietnam has a slightly higher ratio of women to men.

The heavy influx of China's tourism is evidence that some of those theories were at least partially valid, Though they are generally a mixed crowd  with a temporary agenda , Chinese travel to Thailand (peacefully so far) in numbers well above 20 million on a yearly basis.

The old rule of war as a means of obtaining resources and strategic position was also discussed optimistically  but no definite predictions of Thailand being invaded and annexed as a Chinese possession. Because of Thailand's close association with the west, It probably would end up as another conflict  similar to South Korea , South Vietnam or the Cuban missile crisis.

Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar were considered as potential sacrificial lambs or "concessions" to avoid a full scale war. Every time I see those hordes at the airport , walking street  and even their giant tour buses at residential apartment buildings in non tourist areas around Bangkok. I'm at least glad to see that Thailand did not turn into one gigantic Aleppo battlefield.

If I'm not mistaken China was the largest economy in the world before the British Empire

took offense to China's dumping their illegal opium and made them pay reparations in the form of territorial concessions . The French got in on the act in the second Opium war to also get a piece of the action..  I would not blame China for holding a grudge against the ways of the civilized west but they seem to have bigger fish to fry trying to feed and improve the quality of life for more than a billion people.   Thailand invasion ?  I'd call the current situation a perpetual occupation for the time being......

Hopefully they don't all decide to become Pilgrims with a manifest destiny and move all native Thais to a dusty reservation somewhere. .....

Put the situation in reverse positions. You marry a chick with 54 DD breasts then move to your hometown. Maybe it wouldn't bother you having her get a lot of hard looks and loving stares from lonely teens but what would you do if it did bother you ?     Fight them all or reason it out with her to avoid the potential resentment ?

Women talk among themselves. At an office job long ago I would constantly hear them rate or berate

Purchased a 30 day 199bht special . That offer may have expired by now but there were flyers with other promotional offers.

Just google . "truemove shop near me"  .

Not sure if there are TrueMove shops at all Tesco Lotus locations..................

    • Since you are the renter of the condo, form an agreement that all rent payments will go to "B" until the loan is satisfied, and make the sale of the condo contingent on TWO signatures.  The person borrowing, and the person lending.

    _____________________________________________________________________

    Taking it a step further........

It appears that the three of you can setup a payment plan

and a simultaneous guarantee that the loss would be minimized if she failed to perform as agreed.

Cut up or return all the cards to insure no new debt gets added to the deal.

Calculate the actual amount she will be able to pay each month.

OP Makes his condo payment directly to the credit card balance or lender only.

Lending friend pays 2  times the amount borrower actually pays towards the debt (remember, she was going to pay back the loan in installments anyway. ) If she does not pay her share then the deal is off. Sample ....she pays 30,000/m OP 15000/m lender pays 60,000/m

3 months =315000 to credit card plus accumulated interest.

You still have the condo payment as collateral but for a smaller 180000 amount rather than the full 300,000 to collect.

Next OP pays lender his 15,000/m + she pays her 30,000/m =45,000/m for the next 4 months

to pay back the 180,000 owed the lender.

If she reneges,  she loses 15000 from OP/month till OP pays off his friend the 180000 for the next 12 months. All of this should be spelled out in the contract and witnessed by a neutral party In the event she grows fangs and tries to sue you for non-payment of rent or evict you for other reasons.

The real collateral is the "condo payment" that you tie into both deals =Credit cards payoff and the private lender payoff. She will try to convince you to pay rent directly to her in both cases but you would be giving up a great deal of leverage.

    Beware:

I suspect that the p2p lenders mentioned in another post would secure the loan with a high interest rate and a short term in hopes that they could obtain the property by default. There are so many clauses listed in those contracts that they easily take advantage of people in desperate situations.

Psychologically the worst thing you could have done was to let her know that the money was a windfall to the lender.  Women and money are like Pigs and truffles  once they smell it ,they start digging away.

Beware! Your landlord is watching you.

Illegally working without a permit, 15 tenants, extortion and murder were all included in the lease.   The landlord blew a gasket when he realized he was going to be fined for forgetting to file 15 tm30s so he cowardly sold them down the river. What a despicable landlord he turned out to be.....Some criminals just can't seem to catch a lucky break anymore ......

  9. I was told by a financially successful married Thai friend that the 50,000 is indeed a general benchmark of expectation. It's what he gives his wife and more but when he directed me to do the same in order to insure love and loyalty

I had to point out the major flaw that many guys who go to Thailand or live  there seem to ignore or overlook.

Women outnumber men in Thailand . I posted this in another thread but it is also relevant here. Scarcity creates value , excess creates devaluation.  Also, the older they get the closer they are to expiration in their culture in addition to the baggage of kids from a previous relationship with a Thai guy before heading out to strike up a lucrative deal with a so called rich foreigner.  Trust me this is not the Kansas city strip club where 10 guys  sit around a fat mother of 5 pole dancer and throw tips hoping she will let them put a dollar in her bra.  The girls working in Thai bars are only a drop in the bucket compared to the ones who are available.  Widen your scope and you won't need a telescope to find them for a lot less than 50000bht a month.................

  10. If you can't get him to put up some type of collateral (right now), then why not set up a payment of 500bht/month for the next ten months with a signed agreement.

Your reasoning would be the need for him to prove his sincerity based on the previous

    false promises.

Or press him to borrow it from another source because your mother desperately needs medication or surgery...etc

I have had success with these approaches in the past. Currently I only lend to immediate family.

...Would this person do the same for me ?

The answer would be 99.9% no because of the same reason he does not have money for his own needs.

Living beyond his means does not mean he gets to live beyond yours.  A former co-worker of mine with a 30,000bht tattoo who regularly drank a 6 pack a day while occasionally picking up expensive hookers

came to me in desperation one day asking for 30000 bht to help pay his rent. I asked how much of it he had already. The answer was 400 bht.. He got upset when I explained why he could not pay me back even if he wanted to. Haven't heard from him since but it does prove the old saying that "Silence is Golden".....

Here's one who I did not need to pay to stay away from me and avoid my calls .

  11. What to do?  "My friend works for a Thai TV station. He wanted me to talk to you first before ruining the reputation of your hotel with this video....." Then start your negotiations ............  And yes, bags packed and ready to leave as was previously suggested.......

I usually leave the 'Do Not Disturb " card on the door handle when I go out unless I'm there waiting for the cleaning staff.

I leave 20 baht notes in shirt or pants pockets to test for honesty but large amounts are usually well secured .

    Hope this link helps to

blend a little humor into the situation

  12. "To compare Pattaya to Bangkok as transport equivalents is ridiculous"

I beg to differ, if you read

what I wrote. You would see that I was specifically refering to the baht buses used on the long narrow sois of the On-Nut area in Bangkok .

the baht buses in that area not skytrains city buses or mrt trains

If you are in the On-Nut

area that I mentioned they are exclusively

Using baht buses , moto taxis and regular taxis.

Buses don't run through those long narrow Sois only on the major Soi On-Nut.

My ex lived in one of the large apartment complexes there

    (Westerners in

that area are paying 5000 to 6000 per month)

. I visited her regularly and would have to walk several miles to get back to normal buses if it was after hours.

Back to Pattaya.... as time went on I walked everywhere including

    Jomtien

except to and from the bus terminals on arrival with bag's  .    I learned to map my journeys.

    Here are a few questions

I should have asked from the start. Are your experiences

with strangers on baht buses any different than anywhere else you see them?

Are you riding at all times of the day on all routes and hearing the same type conversations.?

This is your thread, I responded because I always noticed that there was a certain class of people who I never saw on baht buses who I did meet or see when I stopped using Pattaya baht buses on a regulat basis.

  13. My personal theory is that people who ride the baht buses don't necessarily represent a cross section of everyone you might meet in general.  And to add to that the ones in Pattaya are almost completly different than the riders I see in Bangkok

(On-Nut area almost zero westerners).  Point being that to even use the baht bus you think differently than the

hardcore taxi rider, bike renters , walk enthusiests or the "fishbowl tourist bus"

    riders.

I generally hear completely different subject matter discussed based on the comradery that they share

    Family talk , finance , health ,

past trips, food and maybe a little political chatter.

Almost always, if someone is having a good trip the conversation is going to be more positive and upbeat.

The more I went to Pattaya the less I used the baht buses so I'm not current with what it might have changed into since then.  This is just my view of what it was to me........

I think ot appears to be their policy to give the arrested individual the choice of some symblance of anonymnity considering the fact that not everyone who is arrested for overstaying gets the same type censorship.

  15. Here is a story about a guy who recorded his wife threatening to make a false claim of abuse.. It saved him from a lot of potential grief. ...Legal or not , it can always be leaked to the press or immigration. What jury would convict him....?

Visa cost comparison not relevant imho

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

Of course it isn't relevant if  you don't have to pay it, but it is

relevant to the Thais who pay 160.00USD upfront visa fees to spend the same 30 days in my country (USA ) That I don't pay towards a  free 30 day visa to Their country. That's a great deal more than the 250baht that caused the op to start this thread.

Thais are required to pay 100.00CAD to apply for a Canadian tourist visa  for the same 30 days   that a Canadian tourist would not be required pay to visit for 30 days in Thailand.

I Would not need a visa to Canada for 30 days    . 2 people 1 pays 100.00 CAD

1 pays nothing = a dual price for the exact same thing.

The relevance "to me" of the fees (160.00 USD upfront non-refundable) that I don't have to pay up front to Thailand for a 30 day visa , means that (in my convoluted logic)  I have an extra 160.00 USD  in my pocket to spend as I choose when I get there as opposed to before I get there.

I don't know if you read what I wrote completely but Thailand is not on the list of countries who can travel to USA (or Canada) and receive a free visa on arrival . However USA  and Canada are on Thailand's list for a free 30 day visa on arrival .

dual pricing is the relevance to me if you choose to interpret it differently you are free to do so.

    _______________________________________________________________________

In 24 years of Travelling to Thailand I have always declined patronizing

any establishment that charged any sort of dual price... it's no problem to just say no.

Whoa Horsey..... Backup  just a little bit and then read the American Embassy web page.

Thai tourists are required to pay an upfront fee of 160.00 US for a Thai tourist visa to The United States . Essentially for the same 30 days that Thailand  gave to almost 1 million American tourists for free  (2017 statistics I went there 2 times that year. ) .

I repeat    "FREE "  30 day visa on arrival  versus a mandatory 160.00 application fee for Thais"

Canadians and several other countries get an automatic 90 day free visa waiver to the US .

Is it racism or xenophobia when Thais need to be vetted through application fees for short stays and other countries don't?

I was told  by a  TV poster in a previous thread that this was a poor comparison to the dual pricing concern because "he" had paid for an elite visa and that should be the balance to the nearly 1 million US tourists per year who don't need to spend an extra 160.00 US.....

Another TV member posted a photo of a   B.S. meter and asked me how much I pay to enter the United States  ???  I'm Still trying to comprehend the relevance.  I am a US citizen but I look out for my Thai friends the same way they look out for me.
