  1. Very little chance of that happening, unfortunately. It's a cash cow AND seen as protecting local industry. There's simply no political incentive for them to do it. Tourists will pay the inflated prices anyway.
  2. Another day, another ****. Alcohol-induced traffic accidents have nothing to do with manufacturers or distributors. If someone wants to drink and drive they will no matter how few brewers there are. The real problem is that people aren't educated enough about the danger of drunk driving and the fact it is rarely enforced by police. Start enforcing it and taking licenses away and miraculously drunk driving incidents will shrink significantly. It's no coincidence that drunk driving is much more common in Thailand than other countries - lack of enforcement. Anyway, welcome change. I don't drink beer so this won't affect me - but smaller brewers deserve a chance, though I'm sure they'll still face further headwings by the industry giants.
  3. Have you not watched the video? The ladyboys were throwing bottles around all over the place. More likely the guy was hit by friendly fire.
  4. Even in their own version of the events the ladyboys were wrong by not refunding the "deposit" (wtf?? who pays a deposit for a beach road w****??). 3000 is way overpriced too unless "she" was going to take on multiple guys which is probably what was agreed upon initially. The more likely version of events is that she took the 1000, then tried to add on another ladyboy for extra cash at which point the tourists changed their minds, and instead of refunding the "deposit" she turned to violence. Beach road ladyboys are insane and routinely involved in violence against foreigners. New story every time involving the same groups - and that's just what makes the headlines with countless episodes that don't. It's a mystery why police aren't doing more to clear them out for the safety of tourists.
  5. As usual: "English" and "French" when all involved are probably rival Middle Eastern or African (Muslim) gang members. They take over Phuket every high season and terrorize it like they own the place, and nobody does nothing.
  6. Why does it matter who is holding the camera? All it takes is cutting the footage to avoid showing her being provoked ahead of her stupid comment, and it makes it look a lot worse than what probably happened. Classic tactic: film everything but only release the parts you choose instead of the whole clip. She was singled out and attacked verbally and possibly physically too for being Israeli, that seems pretty clear.
  7. What about the fact the the people sharing the video are Palestinian or Palestinian supporters do you not understand? This is clearly racially motivated.
  8. Anywhere else I'd assume he's at fault. Soi 6? Not so sure. Staff there seems thirsty for violence. More likely he was disrespectful and they used the opportunity to attack.
  9. What law has she broken? If being an ***hole was a deportable offense Thailand will lose half it's tourists, or more. I do believe her that she was targeted for being an Israeli and that the video was edited to include only her offensive comment while leaving out the abuse she endured before that - but that does not excuse that attitude which unfortunately so many tourists have: no- your money did not build Thailand, you are insignificant in the ocean of tourism and expat money flowing in. You could completely eliminate tourism from Israel and Thailand will hardly notice. It's worth mentioning that the video above was shared by Khaled Tabasha - a Palestinian, and some woman who's probably Arab. A quick look at their IG shows they constantly post anti-Israeli content. So yes this is a targeted attack based solely on her racial background- they wouldn't bat an eye if she was another nationality.
  10. I stand corrected. I guess being in the US on 9/11 permanently locked my mind to 100ml...
  11. Hasn't this been the limit for, I dunno... over 20 years now? Or is Thailand different?
  12. And the article forgets to mention the #1 main factor: the abductions and other incidents that eroded the image of Thailand as a safe destination in Chinese' minds. Either way we'll take the win. Less Chinese means less competition for resources and less upwards price pressure. So happy that low season is finally here.
  13. Huh? There is no culture where cockroaches aren't pests or legitimate to keep as pets. They are a menace, spread diseases, and have none of the properties that would make them a candidate to be a pet. What this really reflects is the sad state of Thailand tourism: any nutjob is allowed in easily. Hopefully they'll do something about it soon.
  14. That's the ridiculous thing: you pay up all your life towards a "retirement plan" that they force you to pay into - yet when it comes time to pay you back it's next to nothing and routinely frozen and devalued. Social security programs should be CANCELLED and replaced by private retirement plans. On the other hand: expecting to thrive on government pension is delusional. As a former banker surely he's got a private retirement plan too???!
  15. Great news. The less tourists, the better it is for those of us who live here. Less competition for everything, less upward price pressure. And low season is coming, finally! 🧡
  16. OK boomer. Last night I started drinking at 4:30am. Not even joking. If you want to go to bed at 11pm that's up to you. Maybe I will too when I'm older (I'm in my 40's), but doubt it.
  17. Ethanol doesn't kill that easily unless you drink several bottles. More likely methanol ("fake alcohol") in which case this is very concerning and we will see additional cases come soon. Either that or mixed with drugs. Personally I've had my drink spiked before (not in Thailand), so I will not drink anything that doesn't come out of a bottle I can see. And never leave your drink unattended either. I hold mine in my hand 95% of the time. 🤣
  18. Name one thing he's done wrong in his first term in office? I see it all positive. I don't like him as a person, but as a President he's done nothing but good. I agree on that. Tariffs are bad. But then against look at Thailand with it's massive tariffs on alcohol and vehicles, Japan protecting it's 90 year old rice farmers, China, Canada, etc. America is not the only player and it is being taken advantage of in this game. I don't think Trump wants to raise tariff as much as he wants other countries to lower or eliminate theirs - which is good for everybody.
  19. Regret the morning after is not rape. People don't do things they don't want to do while intoxicated - they're just free of inhibitions and do what they want to do but wouldn't while sober. 💩
  20. Since when does kamagra comes in a bottle? Never seen one.
  21. Sounds like a you problem. You expect her to reciprocate something she doesn't view as important. She probably grew up in an environment where gift giving was not common, so as an adult she doesn't even think about it. Consider yourself lucky: my ex-gf not only never gave me any gifts, she went as far as organizing a birthday party for me and invited 10 of her friends and 1 of mine - and all of this *I* had to pay for. Needless to say next year there was no party. Of course on her birthday she wanted to party, again with like 6 friends. Yours is at least not a gold digger and sounds like she's with you for you, not your money - that is a lot more than most farang-Thai relationships.
  22. 15 minutes of fame? people do make up untrue **** all the time. He told reporters that he hired a lawyer, but I doubt anyone verified if that's actually true. Would you hire a lawyer over 15,000 and pay a lot more than that on top of what you already lost?? There isn't even a photo of his injuries so we don't even know if that part is true either.
  23. The sky is falling? It's a 25% tax. My home country imposes 100%, Thailand imposes 300%. My home country doesn't manufacture cars, but isn't the situation a bit unfair to the US? It obviously affects buying choices - even personally when looking for a car I didn't bother with an American one due to pricing - despite actually liking American cars. But regardless - my guess is this is a chess move by Trump - he wants to put some cards on the table before he negotiates with other countries to reduce tariffs on US products. Eventually what will happen is countries including Thailand will agree to lower tariffs on US goods in exchange for being relieved of the new US ones.
  24. The only thing different now is that there are more troublemaker tourists around than in the past, and they quickly find out that if you mess with Thais they'll mess you up. They really need to reduce visa waiver back to 30 days and cancel or limit the DTV - easy visa attract low quality tourists and troublemakers.
  25. We can only hope! There are too many tourists as it is, which is causing problems. Vaping in your face with no regard for anybody else is just one of them. Uhhhhh why bother? If they really wanted to enforce the law they could raid any nightlife establishment and they'll come up with a significant amount of vapes/vapers. But one can only dream... I don't care if you want to vape in your home or in a smoking room - but vaping near other people in a room designated non-smoking should be enforced. It's a shame that venues allow it (in non-smoking rooms).
