  1. Can I ask what you paid?

Sure you can ask, but I would not tell  That`s between me and Garry ;)

What I can tell, it`s that I really love it. It`s so much easier to handle comparing to my Yamaha Roadstar 1600. But then again, it`s two totally different bikes.

Sorry, I meant the insurance cost, not the bike ...I'm not that nosy

  2. .

"But the Philippines 'get-around' is illegal. No matter where you live in the world, you need to leave occasionally if you're not resident"

Check your incorrect facts and assumptions. I have a friend there who has had a business since 1985 and used the 6 month renewal option for years.

He only switched to a two year validity plastic credit-card type of visa when it became available and has one of his employees renew it every two years.

    .

So your friend is cheating the system to renew is visa every two years

  3. .

"The point of the visa run is to leave the country. How can you do that in Pattaya?"

True, but the real point is that the requirement to leave the country for 15 minutes and waste one day of your life is pointless!

Have you heard of any other south-eastern Asia country that has such a requirement?

When I lived in the Philippines, you renewed your visa every six months by taking it to a travel agency of your choice - they batched them and a courier took them to Immigration and secured the stamp.

Total cost, US$15 and they would deliver the passport to your residence for an additional $2.

I lived and had a business there and never even knew where the Immigration office was located.

    .

But the Philippines 'get-around' is illegal. No matter where you live in the world, you need to leave occasionally if you're not resident.

  4. .

"How about getting rid of the rule instead? ... just doesn't make any sense."

Following on that theme, why not get rid of the requirement to do visa runs every 30 or 90 days for people who are saddled with that burden?

What's the difference between a Thai Immigration office in Pattaya and one on the Cambodian border? - other than a few hundred kilometers and one day of your life wasted bouncing between pot-holes in an old van with no shock-absorbers.

Immigration could capture a HUGE amount of revenue by simply charging visa-runners 2500 Baht to do the ritual in Pattaya, as opposed to Cambodia.

    .

The point of the visa run is to leave the country. How can you do that in Pattaya?

  5. How about getting rid of the rule instead? Having to go every 3 months just to confirm the address is still the same just doesn't make any sense.

Have to agree. Here in Phuket they don't even want the TM47 completing - they just sign and re stamp the old one. No record is made of your visit, so what's the point. Bureaucratic nonsense!

  6. Here we go again! For the past several days my (6MB) TOT internet has been at a crawl, or not working at all. After a phone call to TOT we wre told they were aware of the problem and that it should be okay after a few days - that was Thursday and it's still impossible to download anything today. Just writing this has meant resetting the connection 3 times.

Anyone else in Phuket have this problem?

  7. Yep, that's the one I'm trying. I won't pursue it further as a couple of other members have already posted comments saying it makes no difference. I suspect those that it has worked for have just been lucky with their timing - TOT's torrent throttling does seem to vary at different times, day and night.

I've just tried it. What a bare, bald piece of nothing software! I can't find information about the settings, e.g. "Test active port", the "Help" is pathetic, it seems to be written by a bunch of geeks for other geeks, with all of them knowing what they mean and what they are talking about except the average user - like me. And I reckon I'm a bit more savvy than the average user.

I'm back on Azureus 4.1.0.2 now and downloading and uploading quicker than Deluge.

It was...... it's called Linux

  8. CAT is still working. However, they blocked my torrent and Usenet downloads when I upgraded my service from 4Mbps to 6Mbps.

I then pointed out to CAT's legal dept that ANY obstruction of Internet services is in direct violation of the Computer Crimes Act and ILLEGAL in Thailand. Naturally, I immediately noticed full functionality had been restored to my account!

Those who think torrenters are the boogieman are simply buying into the RIAA/MPAA "arrggh, pirates!" argument which, of course, makes more money for ISPs because they shell out less for adequate bandwidth.

I doubt it was personal. The blocked/limited torrent traffic coincided with the introduction of the new 6Mbps service. I assume someone was trying to compensate for the extra bandwidth required without having to purchase more from CAT.

  9. This is bizarre, I've been trying to download 2 torrents from TheBox and neither would connect using utorrent. Now I've just tried the same 2 with Vuze and not only did they both work, my download speed went back to it's normal 400K+

I'll just add that "Yes" I am using an approved version.....before someone jumps on me

Yes, watch out Servalan doesn't get you! She is very helpful at TheBox - a complete opposite to "smpjc08" who usually loses his rag at the slightest criticism (about 10th post down): http://www.thebox.bz...s.php?id=125671 :cheesy:

And you thought the mods here were tough!! :D

Yep, have to tread careful with TheBox mods, they don't take any prisoners

I still haven't really got to bottom of what's going on at TOT, but here's my conclusions so far:

    1) Torrents download faster after 10pm.....but still not what they were a few weeks ago.

    2) Trying more than one client results in dramatically different speeds. Why that should be is anyone's guess.

    3) Upgrading to a faster (TOT) service makes no difference - AT ALL

    4) Complaining to 'front line' staff is pointless.

    5) We're stuck with it until someone responsible at TOT decides to buy more bandwidth from CAT and gives us what we pay for.

  10. I took it to a local IT centre today. The guy changed the graphics card whilst I was there and that fixed it. He kept it for a few hours though for some reason. Anyway all is more or less well now except the dual boot with Linux no longer functions, but I will look into that tomorrow. It cost 3000 baht anyway, which is much better than buying a new machine.

I maybe wrong, but I thought graphic adaptors were built into the motherboard on most laptops. Sure it wasn't just the ram edge connector he cleaned and then reseated.....Hmmmm

  11. geoffphuket,

PLEASE do not follow "spud1" comment/advice,

while that will work on a (very) low pressure line,

It would be a very foolish and dangerous fix to a very high pressure line.

I've seen your pic, that is a lot of abrasion to that hose.

Please inspect the hose end-to-end and identify other areas.

After you have inspected that hose,

please estimate "the number of hours" you have used that

"cheap" Black and Decker model (PW1350).

Yes, the "gun handle" will come apart, and therein can be removed.

    Well usually.

If not, the "shop" will perhaps have other "gun handles".

Choose one that meets the pressure requirement you need.

However if your unit has quite a few hours on it,

and in addition the hose is bad in several places,

perhaps you just need a new unit.

(I'm not fond of Black & Decker tools).

If you want a new unit, such as mine or whatever,

    here is the distributors link

    http://www.singsanguan.co.th/ and then

    http://www.singsangu...o/zinsano.html.

There they have "home" units and "commercial" units.

    They will ship to you.

BTW, it does take a unit capable of 100+ bar to really clean the scum off of a driveway, and those cheap china units will just not do the job at hand.

    In my setup: I purchased

    - a cheap luggage Carrier

    - a cheap filter (very cheap insurance) and

    - quick-click connectors for incoming water.

Mount the unit with those 'stretch cables" and the filter.

Very portable. It is a good setup.

Guess I need to take some pics and post them.

Anyway, perhaps the shop can swage-splice your hose together.

DO NOT attempt to do it yourself. Very Bad Idea.

And please listen to "buddy" and "soihok", they know what they are talking about.

    Ignore me, I'm just a fool. :)

    Cheers

Nah, no fool. Thanks for the advice

I'm a bit annoyed really because the cleaner has only been used 3 times previously, hence my reluctance to buy another new one, but I suppose it's probably my fault having draped the hose over several obstacles.

I've not done anything about repairing the hose yet as I can't think of a shop on Phuket to take it to........ANYONE???

  12. I was thinking that it was probably the hard drive too. However I thought that the screen would at least tell me something. As it is I get nothing at all. I wonder if I remove the hard drive and then try to start it what will happen? A new hard drive shouldn't cost much should it?

If it was the hard drive Linux would run from a CD. Try removing the battery and running it off the mains adaptor, cells can often fail in the batteryl and cause the machine to cycle. If it still doesn't work the most likely prognosis would be a new motherboard

  13. TOT without tricks here. Are other people experiencing MUCH slower dl's with thebox? Mine are from 10 to 40 times slower than other typical trackers, including another private one.

This is bizarre, I've been trying to download 2 torrents from TheBox and neither would connect using utorrent. Now I've just tried the same 2 with Vuze and not only did they both work, my download speed went back to it's normal 400K+

  14. Trying to install Deluge but every time it fails with this:

Is this a UAC problem? - "User Account Control". I haven't used Win7 much, but I know UAC is a PITA.

Maybe you don't have the 'privileges' or 'rights' to install and need to be an Administrator. I believe there is more than one type of Administrator in Win7.

I've got it to install now, but it just briefly flashes on screen then disappears. I can't even run it in comparability mode for XP. Looks to me like it's just not compatible with Windows 7

    Version "1.3.0 RC1" is supposed to be windows7compatible_120x60.png Windows 7 (gallery_35489_975_1232.gif) compatible:
