  1. ^Haha. I got accused by a moderator of working for a rival publication - it was along the lines of if I criticise Pattaya One then the obvious reason is that I must work for a rival. Which isn't the case, although I had a column for The Nation years ago when it used to be a newspaper.

Howard - if you can't see the flaws in Pattaya One, the Editor and Publisher can't either then really there is no hope is there?

It exists solely to sell budget condos to bar hopping dreamers and give a few mates the chance to see their name in print.

  2. In Moscow they follow people arriving with a lot of luggage at the airport to their homes and when the person goes out they clean the place out. Have been to Russia twice and would never go back. They still whisper about politics around the dinner table with the radio blaring, afraid that the Kremlin is listening to them. Many apartments have two steel doors, because on is not enough.

I heard they BBQ babies to eat as a snack with the bottle of vodka every Russian consumes at breakfast.

  3. Mekong is going to be rebranded and relaunched in a bid to take it upmarket. ( This from someone who works for the distributor.)

I guess similar to Regency brandy, with the TV ads white skinned goddesses sipping it as the Thai army defeats the Burmese. It'll be a chick's drink within a year.

  4. The sea around Koh Chang is at it's clearest towards the end of the rainy season . . . providing there isn't a storm blowing and waves crashing on the shore. In which case it will be understandably murky - as it has been for the past 10 days or so. Two or three weeks ago it was great. Really clear and very good snorkelling around the islands off Klong Prao beach

  5. I thought I read many years ago Cambodian "terrorists" trained here in Thailand and were protected by the Thai government.

    . . .

I guess I can understand where they are coming from....

Yep, Pol Pot had a villa at a Thai army base not far from Trat and Thai military acted as security guards for him for several years after he was forced out of Cambodia. No doubt that probably upset some of the survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime.

  6. There's one in Trat. It's outside the centre of town - about 1km to the southeast but off the main road.

Heading out of the town centre towards Laem Ngop there's a turning on the left about 400 m before the Shell gas station. Follow that road. Keep going straight, past a left turn. The office on the left are the Transport Dept. The road does a dead end here. Around this area is a sprawl of various govt offices.

Can take a driving test here - or easier still just buy a license discreetly.

No idea of address or phone number though. Directory inquiries should be able to help with the number.

  7. It gets worse when they use 'Mr' plus their first name. "Hello, Mr Bob speaking." Or ask Thais to "Go and talk to Mr John."

At least Khun + first name is vaguely Thai whereas the above is far more tosser-ish. Which isnt surprisign as these are the type of expats who speak to other expats in Tonto English. "I go pub, watch football. You come eat farang food"

  8. He added that there are no travel warnings against Thailand and the international community now has a better understanding of the situation in Thailand.

If Tourism and Sports Minister Chumphol Silpa archa learned how to use a Google on the interweb then he'd find warnings such as this from NZ:

    Thailand

There is some risk to your security in Bangkok and other areas in Thailand not covered below due to the uncertain political situation, potential for civil unrest and threat from terrorism and we advise caution.

or this from the UK Embassy:

There is a high threat of terrorism in Thailand. Bomb and grenade attacks have been indiscriminate, including in places visited by expatriates and foreign travellers. Sporadic attacks continue in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Exercise caution, especially in the cities of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani. See: Safety and Security - Terrorism .
  9. This is strange. First Badbankers original post made last night which confirmed there had been absolutely no changes disappears from this thread.

Then when I reposted his comments they disappeared too.

So why is Thaivisa deleting these comments? There is nothing in them against forum rules and BB was asked by a Thaivisa moderator to find out what was going on.

    What's the hidden agenda?

  10. There has been no change of policy what-so-ever! Either in action of written form.

This has been borne out by:

Checks with Thai Immigration IDC officers

Checks with Embassies with people in the IDC

Checks with the Suwanapum Airport overstay enforcement officers

Checks with and confirmations multiple people who have overstayed and exited as before without detention

Sadly this story is dead. I respect this forum, but quoting unconfirmed Pattaya One sources is irresponsible and has caused panic. Since this story broke embassies have been inundated with requests for confirmation or denial of the "supposed new policy"!

Every embassy I have spoken to has confirmed business as usual with overstays at the moment.

Breaking the law is still breaking the law and to be frowned on by one and all.

    BB

So are Thaivisa and Pattaya One still standing by the story? As the hole you are digging for yourselves appears to be getting deeper.
