  1. I'm in need of a round cover approximately 3ft in diameter with a side lip of about 4in, (it's for a well but does not need to be too strong, it's just a secondary cover) can you give me some guidance as to where to have one made I'm in Thalang. Thanks

  2. He has the funds and he reads posts like yours, and quote........have my own funds and it will be properly seasoned by the time I need to apply for the one year extension which will be in March 2015.

Reading all the threads on Phuket Town immigration making things difficult (because their little scam of charging for free stuff has been exposed)for foreigners, I really don't think I have the patience for all that guff.

Not my experience at all ..maybe the people who find the service good should post, I suspect that they would be in the majority.

And you of course find that paying an agency for a simple retirement visa to save the leg work! What leg work? Is the way forward in this case.

The agency's are there for the people like you who are scared of interacting with immigration or just simple don't understand how to do it....or indeed as you post implies, have more money than they need ( and paying agencies to do simple work because your time is important, meaning you can earn more that the agency charges? is not the way to get richer)

Now you have the option of ignoring my post...

Everybody makes their choices. You do it yourself, others choose to use an agent.

No need at all to talk down people who make a choice different from yours.

    I agree.

  3. Need a recommendation for a visa agent.

I was given the name of Toto which was recommended by a number of friends. They quoted a price of 30,000 Bt to organise a retirement conversion with the multiple entry travel permit.

I thought the price was very high, but, only later realised that this was probably due to the "loan" of the 800,000 Bt you need to show.

Am willing to pay an agency to do all the leg work, does anyone have an email address for an agent, or lawyers office that can go to immigration and get it done?

Grow up! Just do it yourself, there is no hassle, retirement if you have the seasoned funds is easy.

Really? Grow up? The Op doesn't want to waste time hanging around at an immi office, where you may get served today or more likely tomorrow.... I agree with the OP, I will happily pay someone to do the leg work... Some people's time (including mine) is more valuable to them, than it appears to be to others... by all means, waste your time at immi, but don't have a go at someone who doesn't want to waste time. Each has a choice.

It doesn't work in your world? Fine and good.... Instead of contributing a smart arse comment, why don't ya just ignore the post?

There are agencies that will do this kind of work, quite happily, and take your money, if there wasn't a market, like the OP, there would be no agencies...

  5. I just took a drive along NaiYang Beach.

As fast as the army knocks down these illegal businesses, the business owners start to rebuild them!

Where some restaurants were demolished a mobnth ago, new, concrete structures are already in place and the roof is on.

Next to one of the 2-storey guesthouses riught on the beach, the owner is fast at work building a new, concrete structure...

A bar which was closed down and partially demolished is already refurbished/rebuilt...

Honestly, the lack of respect for the law is beyond belief. The only thing that might make these greedy people obey the rules is confiscation of all assets and a lengthy jail term.

I was at NaiYang beach three Sundays ago.Watching the end of Yum's bar, spoke with the Army I asked why some were being demolished and others left, Well this is what I was told (as best I can explain) apparently some of the land there have Chanotes / papers that have been issued with conditions that they terminate on the death of dependent children, i.e. The next generation.

    Never heard of this before...post-30637-14145809678427_thumb.jpg

  6. You should be able to get the location by doing a Google. After if it is not a easy in and out, I would just take it to a independent shop or Toyota and come back and pick it up after going for breakfast and coffee. Time is money I like to do things myself and then there are time I just let others do it? I think for something like this the time you have wasted waiting for a sound answer it could have been done already?

I agree my first thought, spent time with the search engines no clear result. Also had a rear wheel bearing assembly fitted at Toyota two weeks ago, asked their electrician which relay for the headlights, he pointed to the ST relay, confidence gone again.

Please don't forget it's ok 95% of the time. Ah well..I'm hoping the cleaning and lube of the switch has cured it..

  7. Take the piece of shit to an auto electrical outfit

Ah! a helpful and intelligent reply, your not from the U.S. are you ? I have come across this helpfulness before from there. However which ever country you are from I can see you wouldn't fit in, indeed as you don't here (that's if you do live in Thailand) and I apologise to your countrymen for you.

  8. The relay is situated under in a box under the glovebox, just remove the panel. Check this first as it's the easiest job and a common problem (and cheapest !) . If this doesnt solve it, then second port of call, as Paulchiangmai said, is the the stalk. The switches often wear out and strain, especially in hot climates when a tiny amount of warping can throw it out. The steering wheel does need to come off to change this and is best left to a dealer as the airbag is very easy to set off....thats expensive as well as the possibility of having a heart attack ;-) good luck.........

Thanks for your reply I have now checked and lubed the switch... See my other post..I had already pulled all the relays both in the engine compartment and behind the glove box with the lights on, and they remain on, you don't know exactly which one it is do you ?

    Thanks again

  9. Most relays are incorporated in the under-bonnet fuse box/relay box.

Lighting problems are common to the Yaris/Vios range.

You might have noticed many Yaris/Vios models driving around with no rear lights !

I would first check the lighting switch on the steering column. You will need to remove the steering column shroud to gain access. The switch has metal contacts which tend to stick in the open or closed position. Cleaning them and using WD40 solved the lighting problems I"ve had.

A new switch is about 2,000 baht but the steering wheel has to come off to replace it.

Thank you for your reply I have now checked and lubricated the contacts in the lighting switch, and ensured all the harness is sound, they do switch on I've tried it twenty or more times and it works every time...however when I posted intermittent it really is maybe once a month they go out or won't come on..and its both main and dipped beam..strange eh that's why I thought relay

    Thanks again

  10. The best advice is to simple go to the Phuket office with your licence and ask the girl at the desk by the door exactly what you will need, she speaks English and it's her job to inform you and check you have all the docs. Before you get inside.

Then come back when you have all they want...

Time-wise I think I would prefer to already know what I need, have it all with me.

Sure Kimera, good advice, I'll be sure to check with the girl at the door before proceeding.

The thing is, you have to go to the girl for her to check your papers if you need something you will be turned away and as there are time periods allocated to each specific task, for example to renew a 5 year licence is 8.30 to 9 am at one minute passed nine you will be turned away to return another day.

Depends on the mood of the day. Always best to have the medical cert in hand.

Not so they have a printed card with the requirements

  13. Thanks for your info people.

Went Thursday you need to be there between 8.30 to 9am for the 5 year renewal, you will need photo copies of passport, visa and current extension and proof of address from immigration ( they would not accept a Yellow Book) So off to immigration, as it was 11am when I returned was told to return next day.

    Friday 8.30am

All papers in order, no problem, did the eye and reaction test wait for one hour for the driving video for falang in English at 10 am in room 1, collect papers and downstairs for a ticket for the photo and license. The girl on the information desk as you walk in speaks English she checks your papers as you arrive and checks them again after the video and gives you the queue ticket.

Pay the fees (860baht) and away to the have the photo taken and D/L issued (230baht)

    Out at 12 noon.

Oh if you are renewing both your licenses you will need two copies of all paperwork

Yes, you need to be there by 09.00. Quite surprised they would not accept your yellow Tabian Baan. If not accept then makes a mockery of even bothering to get your yellow book.

In a recent thread, I asked about the benefit of being in the Yellow Book. I was informed it does away with the need for a Certificate of Residence.

If it actually doesn't, I have to agree, what's the point of it?

Correct I see no point in it! I've had it 10 years and have never found a use for it, the last bike from Honda they would not accept it and a car from Toyota, Oh and immigration police!

Mind this is Phuket and I see that it's accepted elsewhere in Thailand.....Or so I'm Told !!!!

  15. my Thai driving licence is over 40 years old and I think I need to change my picture and my place of residence. can this be done and still be able to use the licence (it is a life time DL)

    Wait...what???

I would keep it as it is, the life time one hasn't been issued for years.
