1. Many people I find totally misunderstand the ownership and use of firearms but an 18-12 is for a purpose, not so much for sport eh.B) .

Actually it is used for both...

We shoot IPSC for years & out of that 3 Gun Competition was born

3 gun competition ( most commonly used )

pistol ( 9mm, 38 super or 45ACP usually race guns)

12 gauge shotgun pump or semi-auto

rifle- semi auto in .223, .308 or 7.62x39

Interesting but what I was referring to is that you cannnot buy anything shorter than 24 in UK, an 18 comes by way of the hacksaw. :D

Not so, 18 inch shotguns are available in the UK but you will need a FAC and a reason to own.

  2. Having spent the majority of my adult life handling firearms, believe it or not I would advocate NOT holding a firearm………in the home. However, your argument 'flying' would, on the surface seem pretty air tight regarding self-defense. My only point in this would be to say. It's so often the case that weapons, (firearms) held to defend loved ones, can end up being the very thing that kills them with no threat ever having come to the door in the first place…..

(negligent discharges)are so final; especially with hand guns, even in the hands of professionals hand guns are very….verydangerous, let alone someone with no training, due to short barrel length and relative ease of use.

I would strongly urge anyone to think about the need to hold a firearm in the house. There are other way to defend yourself and loved ones.

Yes it goes without saying that any object/tool that has the capability of serious injury should be accompanied by proper training/usage/storage.

I would no more leave a gun or a chainsaw available to those who may hurt themselves while using it.

As for other ways to defend yourself....yes sure if your physically capable you may want to take that route.

For my wife who is trained to use pistols or rifles. I would rather she grab the 12 gauge as a combat equalizer if her life is threatened than have her try to go toe to toe with an intruder who would easily overwhelm her. Same for any other way/tool for her to defend herself.

If it entails her needing to get within striking range of a possibly larger or drug enraged opponent.

My first concern is the safety & protection of my loved ones. Either through my defense of them or if I am not there then their own knowledge of how to defend themselves.

I of course agree with firearm safety & responsible usage.

Reminds me of a story of a friend with a Indian (US} Ex girl friend knocked on his door with a 9mm he got one round off with the 12g one of hers hit him in the left shoulder, best make sure its a semi auto  Sorry Im well off topic..

  3. Do you get any increases using this system or is your pension froze ? what is your status expat, uk resident ?

Your Pension is frozen at the rate when you start to collect it. Thailand is not one of the reciprocal countries so it's frozen no matter how you collect your pension.

Not sure about my status. :D

To be a UK resident, and get Pension increases, you need a UK address and live in the UK a certain numberer of moths per year.

    :)

Yes thats as I understand it, and Im not sure of my status also:D If the OP can keep a UK address then Halifax transfer in uk pounds via current e account 9.50ukp

  4. No matter what the question whether serious or frivolous there are always some smart ass people giving smart ass answers on subjects they know nothing about. :annoyed:

You can have your UK Government Pension paid directly in to a Thai Bank account. There is no charge for this and the exchange rate is on par with the going rate.

My pension day is every 4th Friday and the money is in my Thai account on start of business on the following Monday.

Sometimes if there is a Thai holiday on the Monday it may be a day late, but on the other hand over Xmas it arrived on the actual Friday.

Contact the pension office to arrange the details.

    Easy Peasy..

    :)

Do you get any increases using this system or is your pension froze ? what is your status expat, uk resident ?

  5. Don't know why you'd want to get rid of it. When my last apartment gecko disappeared it took a long time getting a new one as I'm too high up. Eventually I spotted one in the hallway and was able to drive him inside

Just found mine after the water heater exploded cooked across the PCB board, not sure I want a replacement..... Geco that is

  6. Too bad for him... but my lawyer told me two things about buying property which I think this guy did not follow

    1) Never believe in the lawyer of your partner, always hire your own lawyer to double check, officially translate and have official photocopies

    2) Never let your Thai wife have the papers of your property, whether land or appartment, even if in her name, as that is exactly what you end up: She sells it away and you end up on the street with nothing in his pocket...

Have the deeds or not she can have them replaced same result

  7. Today, held up by a car reversing out of a drive, backed out and drove foward into a tree, could not get out of the car, drunk, what do you think, did you see that where you came from?

  8.
Yes, I think Thai drivers are VERY considerate, borderline perplexing. I could jump a huge queue, then try to merge back in at the very end, and people ACTUALLY LET ME IN!

If I do that at home I'd end up in a tree.

That's not saying Thai drivers can't improve of course, quite a few of them should learn to look a little further ahead than the first 5 meters in front of their car. And others shoudl learn that if they're merging into a main road, wanting to merge over to the very right for a U-turn, that it's OKAY to just merge into on the left, gain speed, and THEN merge to the right, not wait for a gap in traffic you can sail the Queen Mary through and accomplish it in one jump. Duh.

But I'm nitpicking. Thai drivers are great.

Not sure where you drive in Thailand but really! The majority of Thai drivers are very ignorant, rude and downright dangerous.

Not to say some are not good but in general I have found them lacking in common sense as well as really having little idea of basic road sense. In addition to this they simply cannot drive a car properly. How many times do you see them drifting from lane to lane, consistently staying in the right lane etc. etc.?

My wife(Thai) and friends just shake their head in bewilderment at the stupidity of the Thai driving habits.

Courtesy is great when it happens but the majority of Thais do have a "me" "me" (read selfish) attitude which only leads to dangerous situations on the roads!

    Yes, I agree

  9. those people are absolutely useless. It's a black hole. No contact or meetings for anyone. The system is flooded by so many people, many trying to cheat the system, that they choose to screw us all and make life more difficult than it ever needs to be.

Rubbish !! I have dealt with them, telephone them, they are very efficent.

  11. That is good to know, but i am still a bit worried that they could tell you that but then still refuse the application. Have you or anyone else actually got a Visa from Hull after sending a copy of the marriage certificate in Thai?

I asked the Thai Consulate in Hull about this by email, they told me I didn't need the translation, the Thai version would be fine.

Went to Hull four weeks ago there should be no problem, there is a Thai girl working there now.
