  1. Tried using search today to no avail, I need a bit of help possible relocation to Phuket from Bangkok, what are the realistic rental costs for 1 bed and or 2 bed apartments, and which areas would you recommend I start with? I like a bit of nightlife, but I also like a bit of greenery.

Is it possible to walk everywhere in Phuket or would I need a bike??? Hate bikes but what are my options? I guess everything else will fall into place.

    Cheers

    :D

Phukets a great place to live it has everything you expect of Thailand in one island. And it has the beaches. Phuket island is bigger than it looks on the map and its hilly, you will need transport I think. for the nightlife then try to locate around Patong there are other places depends what you want? I take it from your post that you have not been to Phuket, if thats the case then I would suggest a visit. :o

  2. A friend and I have been exploring a lot of Phuket back roads. We are just on regular motorbikes, and sometimes find really interesting places. The problem now is we are having trouble finding new roads/trails. If anyone else is into this, maybe we could compare notes.

Do you have a good road map??

An interesting road we found the other day started from the Wat( the one about 1/2 KM NWon the other side of the road of Wat Chalong) Starts out kind of steep, and leads you to Patong.

That was a real good one about the road map

You have a real good one! road map? try multimap. com oh and Dan you will need to type in Phuket, where the roads end you will need more than your regular motor bikes :o

  3. Today until the 21st September, the Phuket police is joining hands with the US Embassy in Thailand to hold a training workshop on handling explosives to enhance the officers skills in countering terrorists.

Well, I certainly feel all warm and fuzzy now that I read this :D It is sooo reassuring to know that President George W. Chimpy McFlightsuit's boys are helping to protect us. Perhaps Haliburton and Fred Phelps will set up an international friendship centre on Sarasin Bridge?

As a side thought, wouldn't a workshop on detection perhaps be a tad more useful? Or is that covered? And wouldn't all these altruistic and benevolent gestures of US internationalism be just a wee bit more useful say, erm, Had Yai?

Yes i'm reasured now but I.m sure it will all get better now Singapore will take over Phuket :o And the Sarasin Bridge, well there will be a international border control there. Security and Visa 's could get easy?? or not!

  4. Snakes really put off by some steps?

    Snakes have no legs! Bingo!

I've seen some climb from the ground to the top of trees in a blink of an eye, doubt steps would be an issue. Found one on the 2nd floor of our house at the top of the stairs once.

Ah. but then maybe it came down from the roof :o

  5. I did this last week at the immigration office in Phuket Town with no problem. Is your partner's name in the tabian baan? If so just take her to the immigration office and she can sign to confirm you live at the same address.

    You will need:

    Partners ID card + photocopy

Tabian Baan + photocopy of page with wifes name.

Your passport and photocopies of photo page, non immigrant visa page and last entry stamp page.

I got mine at Immigration in Phuket Town last week for my driving license renewal.

I only took the Tabien Bahn. Didn't need the missus present, or, photocopies of her ID.

This all seems very straight forword, many thanks to all.. :o

  6. To register a vehicle in my name I need a confirmation of my residence, is this available on Phuket ? I have the house (blue Book) in my partners name of course!

What information do you have and do I need the conformation :o ??

  7. Where should I head tmw on the bike to just find a fun market environment? Munchies ... general stuff?

Any other weekly markets worth checking out?

Theres a fair sized local market around the Monument (Between Phuket city / Thalang ) It's on the basic maps. :o

  9. One of the first things my TW asked me when we met face-to-face was, "will you take me shopping?". I almost dropped her right there but figured what's a few bucks. Well I gave her 8,000 baht and she went shopping while I drank coffee, etc. and watched the Thai stroll by. When she had finished shopping she handed me 5,000 baht. I looked at what she had bought and it was all 'basic' items of clothing and a few nicer things but all priced okay. Later when I visited her village I discovered she literally only had a few pieces of simple clothing. Also, I later found out she wanted to 'look nice' when we went out together; not unreasonable I think.

To this day the TW is frugal with my (our) money. She's wonderful in many other ways and yes she loves me and I her.

So what's my point? Simple. Many people would have viewed the "will you take me shopping" request as just another Thai girl after a farang and his money. This would become their perspective of Thai women. However, once the 'whole picture' comes to light it was just a request from someone asking someone else to provide some basics and a little happiness.

    Thats a cool reply....well said!! :D

I've read most of the posts and I think this one says most of it. my thai partner spends only what is needed. proud that the electric bill is 600 baht per month, AC only used 4 hours!! She is my partner and mother of my child, maybe because once before we lived togerther I gave her my BKK bank card and pin came back 12 weeks later and she was still there and so was the money :o

    Cheers

Will start to hunt for cosy room as soon as i hit phuket.

  13. Burger King at the airport gets my vote :D

Thats it then away to the airport, problem is if I go there from this side I'm not happy!! could put me off the food :o

You should probably slug down a couple of Heinekens first then slam the double whooper! That usually fixes me up!

You are right my friend, trouble is if I drink to much might miss the flight :D then the next flight has the red visa light, been marched away before! :D

  14. Gutters on roofs would be a good start. The amount of rain we get on this Island is more than enough water for all.

Yes, makes me wonder, where did all that water go, we got in the beginning of the dry season, in December!

I have a 4" down pipe on the back of the house with three large water barrels, they fill in minutes we use it for most of the cleaning etc :o Im from the uk used to stand and watch the rain unbelievable ! you are right my friend where does IT go ???

  15. Hi,

I am making my first trip to Phuket in October.I will be staying at the Banthai resort and spa in Patong Beach I was wondering if anyone could recommened a money changer in the area as that is where I will make my first serious exchange,or are there ones in the area to avoid,

    Thanks,

    Mick

Always use the exchange or the atm attached to a bank if you plan carefully its always possible :o

  16. Patong not bad, Banga Rd is pissup central. Apart from that other spots are rather quiet, just depends on what you want to do.

This is Thialand the scams are everywhere the falangs are, except where there are no people or no taxi because no one wants to go enywhere, take care :o:D:D Its still a great place

Oh and the buses. You like long time??? take a bus from BKK to CM 14 hours 17 with the accident-- and the thai's never even complained, its only time!

I will start apt hunting when i reach there then. i will go for smwhere near beach, might be surin beach, i guess.

But first of all, i have to buy a car... hehe

Buy the car before you move here , they are expensive here :o !! And if its Surin beach try Thalang area its central on the island and affordable. :D

  19. if they do think you are drink driving, you would be lucky to get away with a ticket - you could be spending a night in the slammer.

    not clever.

If you are drinking and driving you should be spending the night in the slammer.

For shame, there are other people on the road you could manage to kill besides yourself. :o

    REALLY!!

    Whoops

Get in a tuktuk or on a moto-taxi and let one of them to drive you home .... They are much better at drink driving than you are

HANG ON!!! never said I was drink driving thankyou !!!

And no it was'nt why I hit the pothole

Guys it was only a question

    SRY :D

  20. Agree, its common. Was working at a resort at Rawaii beach, Phuket and every evening we basically had to jump over a snake pit to even get inside our home. These were also Cobras so yes they are quite common. :o

Yes the snakes are common just spent six months looking to buy a house, most were rejected by my Thai boss, not enough steps up into the house, live in Thalang now-- We have serious steps :D

  21. There is a manufacturer in Samut Prakan. Don't know if good or not. I personnally never bought a tuktuk before. Check-out the website.
