  1. Looked at a few carribeans and noticed non have seat-belts in the back. Any one tried to fit them or know if its possible?

Should be no problem I have two 413's in scotland for forest off road work they are the best !!! swb & lwb one is fitted with rear seats and both have all the fittings, the rear seat is a simple fold foward device. Have to say i've not looked into many in the LOS but I'm sure they will have the same fittings :o

  3. Depends if you want to buy every (wo)man and her/his dog a drink...

Soon goes through the roof if your paying for 5... :o:D

It's different being in "living and working" mode... to "long trip" or "holiday" mode...

In the UK I go out maybe once a week...when I stay in LOS for long periods... I'm out nearly every night... :D

On the trips before I spent (long time here) I always allowed £1000 per week hotels and entertainment, I mostly came back in pocket but not by much pick your place my friend,, maybe go North its cheaper and the people are nicer!!!! :D

  4. I used an insurance broker here in Phuket to purchase my health insurance. They also do home insurance and I'm pretty sure they could advise you on the best deals.

The office in Phuket is run by Eric, a swede born in Thailand. He speaks perfect Thai (as well as English) and is very proffessional and knowledgable.

I have just e-mailed the company Thanks again.. will post result !!

  5. Phuket town can be a wee bit troublesome at first. But there are many major landmarks and not that many roads.

Kata Karon would seem nearly impossible to get mixed up. There is only one road leading in from the north and two roads from the south. Not very complicated IMHO!

The orientation of Phuket is north south with mountains in the middle. Since the sun is nearly always shinning even a novice navigator shouldn't have too many difficulties. There simply aren't that many roads to keep track of.

Now for real fun try navigation by auto in Bangkok!

At least Phuket has some signs in english pointing to Patong and other prominent landmarks.

I once spent a day in a car with an American and his Thai wife, his wife would tell him from the back seat (you can turn right now) or (left) he mostly went straight on (ok you can go straight) from the back seat!!--- It's a good job that we live on an island-- we got there always in the end!! :o

  12. Any recommendations for 'decent' hotels close enough to be in the action but far enough away not to be noisy? Looking for a hotel with pool that is not carry a ethical stance or try to fleece you for bringing a guest home. Any recommendations people?

Thanks a lot - do appreciate your advice.

Take a look at this site. They have plenty of listings for hotels that are guest friendly.

    http://www.barladies.com/

    Take care.

Try the Sunhill my friend I have stayed there 3 times some 9 weeks in total the sevice is excellent the staff the same there is a swimming pool and two sections to the hotel one thro reception the other around the pool come and go as you please ... both sections have no problems with (guests) it is owned and run by Roman a german..

  13. For reference books I would say B2S on the 3rd floor of Central, the Books on Phuket Road (near the TAT office) or Seng Ho near O'Malley's in Phuket Town.

Personally I would try B2S first.

Thanks again... 3rd floor central is that Phuket town? please give directions! new on the island Thanks

  14. Their own website says that you need passport with long term visa, and work permit, or Certificate of Residence. I had none of the above and set up an account in 20 minutes. :o

:D Exactly what i like about Thailand...

I opened a savings account at the Branch near to Nana Soi 12 with only a tourist visa no problems. That was around 9 months ago so i don't know if things have changed.

However with a savings account you cannot use internet or telephone banking and i find the most simple banking transaction takes an extraordinary amount of time.

Unless a Thai bank account is essential for you i would recommend you bank offshore.

I opened my first Bangkok bank AC in (CM) with the explaination that as a very regular tourist I did not what to carry large amounts of money around with me, this was three years ago since then I have had good service even purchased a house thro the AC (check out their web site you can have an AC)

  15. Thai airways is 3300 each way now(up from 2800). They are the most reliable if you have a connection to make.

There was a 1600bht promotion with one of the others recently.

I like Bangkok airways myself if the schedule is convenient. They fly newer B717 aircraft and have very courteous staff.

I hate the smelly old A320's Thai airways operates.

Seems expensive did you book direct or thro, agent?

  16. Thanks for the info, sounds like you where in the same position as me, maybe ? anyway I have a new baby no motor bike now!! you bought new i'm sure you did your homework, where from which dealer? what did you buy ? I favour a toyota but well open to a cost affective alternative ..

I guess it all depends on your budget and needs. I spent a fair amount of time looking around before i bought a Honda Jazz for around 600k. I got 1 years free insurance and a few extras thrown in.

Like I said before if you want a better deal buy the car in Bangkok and drive it down. You should be able to get better discount or a lot of extras thrown in compared to Phuket.

About the new car dealers, there isn't much choice as there is only one dealer per manufacturer in Phuket, and even then some dealerships are owned by the same company - Anuphas & Sons own the Honda, Ford and Mazda dealerships (among many other businesses).

In Thailand you pretty much can't go wrong with Toyota or Honda. Reliable, cheap and plentiful parts and they hold their value well.

So far i've got no complaints with Honda but then I've only had my car for 6 months.

Forgot to add, lots of useful information here you should check out:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showforum=78

Thanks again your advice is good i'm leaning toward the new car, checked out the site and others, the new car has to be the best option, service etc. and here in Phuket the high second hand value works then to your benefit..

  17. suremotors does have the best reputation in Phuket, which is mainly due to the fact that they honour their short warranty period (whereas most others don't), but their prices are even crazier than the other dealers.

However, I totally agree with what baabaa said about buying new. I spent ages looking all over Phuket for a good deal on a 2nd hand car and in the end decided to buy new. Couldn't bring myself to spend 350,000 on a 6-7 yr old car when a new one could be had for 600,000 - including 3 years or 100,000 km warranty, 1 year free insurance, lower interest rates (if financing)

forgot to mention that you don't have to change the plates if you bought a car in BKK. Its perfectly fine to carry on using the Bangkok plates here in Phuket - more than half the cars in Phuket have bkk plates, partly due to many locals buying their cars in BKK where they can get much better deals, for new and 2nd hand.

Thanks for the info, sounds like you where in the same position as me, maybe ? anyway I have a new baby no motor bike now!! you bought new i'm sure you did your homework, where from which dealer? what did you buy ? I favour a toyota but well open to a cost affective alternative ..

  18. IMO 2nd hand car prices are hugely inflated in Thailand in general.

However, if you are buying from a dealer, you could probably save about 20% by buying in Bangkok compared to buying in Phuket.

prices are higher in Phuket because there is less supply, less competition for the dealers, and also because Phuket is one of the most affluent provinces outside of Bangkok.

Also, if i had to buy a used car, i wouldn't buy it from a dealer. The markup is crazy. Buy it from a private seller. And whatever you do, make sure you get the car inspected by someone who knows what they are looking at before you buy.

Thanks for your reply I've had chance to check it out, you are correct my friend, thanks again for the info.... are you the only one out there?? 200 hits and your the only reply, thanks again..

  19. Private ads can be found here:

    http://www.phuketgazette.net/classifieds/p...tors_ref_18.asp

Dealers? Drive down from Thalang towards Phuket Town and there are plenty of "dealers" on each side of Thepkasatri Road. IMO 2nd hand cars in Phuket are massively overpriced, especially when buying from a dealer here. Better to pick something up in Bangkok or elsewhere.

Thanks for info. are new car prices inflated in Phuket of set the same as the rest of Thailand
