  1. Hi I know the favourite advice seems to be when looking for a house rental the best thing is to drive about and look but it would be great to have a company or companies/agent/rep passed on as a recommendation

I'm sure some of you must have rented through an agent at the first stage and must have some good referrals to make

I would really appreciate it, to be armed with a few helpful contacts upon arrival would be nice

    Coming Jan/Feb

    Thanks

    Mike

    :D

I think most of us come as tourists :D and progress thro being here to the rentals we see as we drive around etc. and on from there to maybe purchase. If your not resident here its the best and most cost effective route. The agents can be expensive :o

  2. Just throwing in another opinion, I would say 7 or 8K for a largish, young, healthy beast in a cheapish part of Isan. So the 13K sounds cheap. The off-white livestock sounds like cows. You'll know the difference between a cow and a buffalo if your car hits one.

Yes thanks it might be difficult knowing the difference if this rain continues we will all be under water :o

  3. Brahmin Cattle, 13,000 for a pair sound cheap, but it's a bit like the "how long is a piece of string" question. How old are they, it's it a male/female pair, what weight are they, is anything wrong with them. 13,000 does sound very cheap if they are fully grown.

You could try looking throught the Farming section, we have loads of threads on beef cattle ect

Thanks to all for the facts and the entetainment I will check out the farming sites, thanks again :o

Nice one Kimera and good luck with your search for a good deal.

Perhaps there may be someone in the local village / area that is experienced in this type of purchase and the the signs of a quality beast at a realistic asking price.

There are helpful people about who are genuine and will be very pleased to assit you, i,m sure if my Moo Ban is anything to go by.

    marshbags :D:D:D

Yes there are many good and genuine people, thanks marshbags :D

  4. Hi,

I am scheduled to spend apx 30 days in Phuket researching real estate mkt, checking out schools etc as am planning to relocate to Phuket mid next yr.

Surely will need to rent a car of some sort.

Any advise or recommendation on where it is the best /most economic/ to rent a car for longer period. I know that Avis or Hertz would be the easiest approach but rather pricy one.

Maybe it is better to rent one in BKK and drive south ??

    Welcome your comments and/or suggestions.

    rgrds,

    Voytek

Budget cars from phuket airport, though the net agents 5 seat pickup 30,000 baht ish 30 days with the insurance and breakdown cover you may need. :o

  6. Someone got a very sick buffalo? :D:o

It also depends on who,s asking for the buffaloes. :D

I remember a guy buying a load of household items, bed and all.

Had given his girl enough to buy for all the family and was bragging about how good they where.

Her brother who came with the transport, organised everything for him and told him what he needed to buy.

Even took the money for the buffs and was going to get him a good deal and dependable beasts.

I shook hands with him and wished him good luck as he went off, i can still see his smiling face as they drove away.

He was back in the bar 2 days later.

Turned out the brother was actually his girlfriends wife and got into bed with them after he nodded off.

This really is the land of surprises for the the believers of this calibre.

    ( he,d only known her a month ) sad i know but :D:D:D

Even he managed a smile when he was telling me, maybe because i couldn,t keep a straight face.

    marshbags :D:D:D

Thanks this I really enjoyed :D

  7. Did he have to have a certificate of residence when he bought the car? If so, I'm sure he must have a copy of it somewhere. Does he know you're planning on selling HIS car to improve YOUR cash flow?

doesn't the sick buffalo excuse work anymore in thailand?

Buffalo I own Buffalo they are 10000 b when it rains and 20000 b when the weathers good, You want to buy one ? :o:D

  8. Question, I have gone el-cheapo for storing my camera lenses. Have an old small fridge, took the shelves out, and now have my camera in there with Silica gel. These chemical things u said were used for drawers, would they be good for in my fridge ?

I feel the silica gel maybe is not powerful enough.

Yes ok but you have dry them out, they work by collecting moisture but can (will) get saturated :o

It depends on how good tjhe (old) fridge seals are :D

I'm trying to find an online photo of the scene I saw on television news... the damage done to the front of the tank.

There's at least a 8 mm long chip in the paint.

    :D

Please find a picture I need to see it!! It would finish this post off pefectly :D:D

  11. I am just thinking na.

Why do Thai people wanna move abroad and why do foreigners wanna move to Thailand.

    Alex

    1. Thai think they can improve their money-life

    2. Farang think they can improve their sex-life :o

    LaoPo

Yes and mostly they are right!! :D

  12. Nostrel ---- re: bikes ---- do you actually know of "many getting stolen" in Phuket?

Had bikes for years in phuket never had one stolen, I work on the fact that there are thousands here and you have to be unlucky to lose one. One tip tho if you rent don't leave your passport, its has been known for the bike to be stolen !! and its a case of pay up or no passport! !!! get a copy of your picture page and plastic it. (very useful) :o

  13. I am living in Kathu, it's 5 minutes to Central, Tesco, BigC or Makro, but in a very quiet and green area:

    Please have a look:My house

2bedrooms, livingroom, kitchen, air, ADSL line, UBC(1500.-Baht a month), hot water and a nice landlord plus a huge garden: 10000.-Baht a month.

Next to me is another house nearly the same but only 1 bedroom, they just moved out and I don't know if they have someone for this house(same landlord).

Just come down and drive around with a small bike to look in the small sois or ask one of the locals to find a place.

    Good luck!

    Gerd

  16. Heard on the news today that he was no longer in ITU but was in HDU (high dependency unit), this must mean that he is no longer intubated and not in an artificially induced coma, to control intercranial pressure.

I hope he will be back soon, his interactions with Clarkson and James May are priceless.

BBC reports that he able to have a conversation, thats a good sign :o

  17. Unfortunatly I like many other pickup owners are stuck with medevil leaf springs ( cart springs ) They might have been ok for Ben herr's chariot but I can't believe in this day and age we're forsed to still be useing the bledy things, anyway my point is, looking at mine they are dry and rusty, in europe I would oil them but here with the dust everywhere Im not sure it's a good idear, do I leave them dry but clean or oily and coverd in dust ? what would you do ?

If you feel its a problem oil grease and wrap them, but be aware that springs are designed to operate under the conditions you state, you could end up jumping everywhere :o:D
