Hmm, the DNS servers seem to be on the fritz again today (True). Can't connect to some sites (Thaivisa included). But when I directly set the proxy to True's, then it works fine.
Same in Phuket right now with TT&T....most sites won't load....Google and its properties the exception along with.....WOOHOO!!....Thai Visa.

Hey Acquiesce.....thank you very much for the reply and the help with the translation. And maybe you'll give the sprouted version a try....they're very high in Calcium and Vitamin C. :-)

I was just about to post a question about how to say "Bamboo Shoots" in Thai......because I've eaten a lot of them this past week and they are yummy!! Well, as obscure of an item as I figgered' that would be....I decided to search the forum first just to confirm that it wasn't there already. But......to my surprise and delight......it's there already!!!
หน่อไม้ nòr máai. (Bambusa vulgaris.) Bamboo shoots. Large white conical shoots with a base about 2 to 3 inches in diameter.Wow!! You guys on this forum are absolutely awesome!! Thank you for all your help to all of us Farangs. ;-)
One new question....how do you say "Radish Sprouts"? At Tops Market they are sold in 200gram packages in the fresh veggie area.....the label just says, "Marry Food Kaiware". A Google search revealed that "Kaiware" is radish sprouts.
Can you tell me both the way to write it in Thai and also how that Thai writing sounds in English?

Hi! :-)
I'd like to try to help with this one.
Inside the "Central Shopping Mall" (the big one on the main street) there is a small computer shop on the second floor....it's down the corridor from where the cell phone shops are....across from a couple of hair cutting places.
I wish I could remember more specifics.....like the name of the place...lol!!
They are very helpful....they make not speaking Thai a "non issue"....and if they don't have exactly what you need...they will refer you to someone who does (they did this for me on the one time they couldn't help).
Good luck!

I am trying to call Twin Peaks Condos to inquire about a booking. Their website only has an email address (which I've sent an email to already). I'd like to call them directly since the booking dates are very soon.
Do you have a phone number for them?

A friend of mine made a request of me today. She is a wonderful person in so many ways, I hope to be able to come through for her. My question is...where in Bangkok can I go to find as "authentic of a Thailand toy doll dressed in native costume" as possible? About how much will it cost? (I'm sure it's based on size, height, etc.....but can you just give me a price range so I can get a feel of what I might be getting myself into?)
Could I make one tiny request? When you are out "shopping", could you find a small "authentic" Thailand doll dressed in native costume? I collect dolls.CHEERS!

Do you know where to buy a full body pillow?
(This is a pillow that is sometimes used by pregnant women, people who sleep on their side, etc......and it is long enough that it goes all the way from head to toe.)

Thank you again to all who have contributed to this thread. I'm hopeful that it will serve to benefit many people now and in the future......well, as long as they do a "search" instead of just reposting the same question again. Lol!!

How long does it take for a letter envelope sent from the USA without any special expedited service.....just regular US Postal Service......to arrive in Phuket? I'm sure it can vary a bit based on how long it sits in customs....but what is the range of time it might take?

WOW!! Very cool.....sounds like Chiang Mai is getting its share of new apartments. I guess that could be good or not so good, depending on how the development of the properties affects the local community. In any case....thank you for the help and the referrals.

I haven't seen any evidence of it via Google searches, but with all of the real estate development over the past few years throughout the Kingdom.....have there been any high end serviced apartments (with fitness, ADSL, etc.) built in Chiang Mai?
What's the most high end serviced apartment there that you know of?

Thank you very much for the feedback so far. The State Tower looks as awesome as one would expect.....but I'd be looking for something about one level beneath that as far as price per month.
Long term rental.....6 months to a year.....with oven......80,000 BAHT or less.
Doable? Where?

Ha! Thank you for the reply Goshawk....but no worries, I only need to find one serviced apartment that does offer an in home oven.
Anyone else know of such a place?

Do you know of a serviced apartment in Bangkok that has an oven in the unit itself (one used for baking, not microwaving)?

The brand names you mention may not be the same in Thailand.
Using generic names, I see thyroxine sodium and thyroid extract listed in Thailand for the treatment of hypothyroidism, but not triiodothyronine or liothyronine.

Maestro.....while I'm hopeful (praying?) that someone else will somehow post a different answer.....your quick reply and the link to that most helpful website shows that you recognize the importance and gravity of topics that are posted in the "Health" forum here.
Thank you, sir. Really.

Do you know if T3 medications (for Thyroid treatment) are available from doctors in Thailand? If so, which medications are they? Armour? Cytomel? Something else?

What is the best way to ship an office chair, a large suitcase full of clothes, and computer monitor to Bangkok from Phuket?
Can you tell me where to go to do this?
Will they "wrap" / package the chair for me?
How much will their wrapping service cost....and how much will it cost to ship to Bangkok?
Thank you so much for the help on this. :-)

At the local outdoor market, the charge per KG of Marat (bitter gourd) is 45 baht and for Kat Na (kale) it is 60 baht.
My question for the farmers here is....what is your best guess to what the price be per KG for each if I were buying in bulk quantity for a restaurant.....something like 50KG per day of each? Also, one more and this one may sound silly......is there any risk that I wouldn't be able to get those quantities each day year round?

Hey folks!! :-)
Please accept my apology for screwing up the question the first time. With all three replies from this thread (BambinA, DurianChips, and withnail).....I'm confident that I can communicate the word "mint" in Thai....and that I'll receive exactly what I want.
Thank you again.....you all helped a ton.
Until next time....have a great week!

1. What is the Thai spelling for mint (written in Thai)?
มินต์ ...
However, TH mint is a bit different than farang mint
TH mint = Saranae (สะระแหน่) Kitchen Mint
Farang mint =peppermint
same same but different
2. What is the English pronunciation for the Thai word for mint?
mint
Hey BambinA......thank you! I really don't know how you can put up with my poorly worded questions...but you always do....and you always offer your help. Very cool!
I should have worded question #2 differently. What I'd like to know is.....how would I "sound out" the Thai word for mint? So...."sawadee ka" is what I mean by the "English pronunciation" of a Thai word. What's the equivalent for the word "mint". Does that make more sense now?

Mint tea tastes awesome! I'm craving some...but I want to make it myself.
Can you help me with three questions?
1. What is the Thai spelling for mint (written in Thai)?
2. What is the English pronunciation for the Thai word for mint?
3.Where do you think I can find dried mint powder or dried mint leaves?

Well.....as always your kindness and desire to help is incredible...thank you everyone here!!!
I think at this point I'll just do what many of you have recommended. I should have done it in the first place. I'll just ask her...."Uhhhh....Ms. Hannah....how the heck do you spell your name, because I want to email you and not offend you."

From Sukhumvit Soi 10....what's the nearest open market (i.e. not a "grocery store") where you can buy fresh mushrooms and other veggies? What days and times are sellers there?
