  1. I am looking at buying a new car and I am undecided between the Corolla or a Mazda 3.

The Corolla seems to be better than the Vios.

    Any thoughts

    Thanks

I got a 2002 Altis 1.8 vvt-i (red i) as a rental. Goes like stink. Fuel consumption on 91 benzin is approx: 440-550km on 36-40 liters.

Cruising at 140-150 is no problem. :o

The handling and brakes are quite good too. I would get the sport package if this means a lower and stiffer ride.

We have an Altis Sport that is about 4 years old. Not sure they do the Sport package any more. Very nice car. No problems whatsoever.

  2. There seems to be many BKK families relocating to Chonburi and Bang Saen and commuting or buying weekend places. It's fairly convenient to BKK, Pattaya, and the airport.

The downside is that not much English is spoken locally. Or maybe that's an upside.

  3. Right, you shouldn't have looked. The difference in price will make you cry. I have a large Brinkmann smoker that I bought in Saudi and had it shipped home at company expense. Wouldn't want to think what it might cost in Thailand if you could even find it.

  4. There's condos available in Bang Saen, saw one advertised yesterday in fact but can't find it again now!

If you find the link, please post it. Always looking for more investments

  5. Ummm... excuse my ignorance, but whats a weber type? :o

I just need a basic BBQ, that could accommodate cooking for 4 people, so something around 18inches by 12inches - or there abouts. Doesnt need to be expensive or huge or anything like that.

Sorry. Weber make a round bar b q with a domed top. Small one is about 14". Larger is 22", I think. The rectangular ones with cover are ok but the Weber is better for smoking meat.

I've seen the cheapar rectanguler ones but can't recall where.

  6. hi Heng, how many farang do you know who have a very attractive and very well educated (in your eyes) Thai wife who they met in Thailand?

I know one. :o Actually, come to think of it, I know a couple. Not hi-so by Bangkok standards but university educated and come from well-to-do landowning families on the island I live on.

I certainly know one, me. While relationships between well educated Thai ladies and foreigners were not prevalant 10 years ago, it is very acceptable in middle and upper class families now.

  7. When I was a kid, I thought US of A was the most wonderful place on Earth. Of course, there are many ways it is still one of it but I grew up and outgrew this fantasy...

But still a number of my countrymen still hold this notion.

even some foreigners (like a bloody German and his wife) think that the US of A was a wonderful place with wonderful people. unfortunately some paranoid clowns headed by a certain village idiot from Texas have turned The Greatest Nation on Earth™ into a not so wonderful place :o

Living in Texas does not make one a Texan. The fool is from Connecticut. I love in Thailand but am not Thai.

  8. Had one clown try to nick me coming of the expressway onto Sukhumvit near Soi 1 wanting to go back around through Bumrungrad to Soi 3 and then to Sukhumvit going the other way. Babbling on in Thai, showed licence and he wanted Bt500 for something. Mai ow krap.

I must have encountered the same guy a few weeks back. Paid my toll in the right lane and was pulled over for driving in the right lane before I got on the motorway. THB 500.
