I agree on Pattaya, usually a cockup. But my experiences with Phuket are different. Avoid Bangla Road after midnight, and Tuk Tuks in tourist areas, and Phuket’s a fine, fun place to go. Traffic is a bit much some days, but is it in the most any large population spot.
