Well an old friend did just that in January. I hadn’t seen him in 20 years but we kept in touch. He’d just retired this fall. His wife had work, his daughters too, so he came alone. We had a fine two weeks, but not all time spent together. Still at 65 no issues even anfter climbing 2 mountains and got home safe. He did have travel insurance.

It’s starting , a new day in America,Chris Wray is gone!
animatic replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
A long night of suffering is begining. Wrays resignation is the first bell tolling for horrible extended death knoll. This gloating and backslapping is grossly misplaced and in poorest taste. -
So many rumors going on about this. First one large market Laemdin totally gone, then smaller market Dao totally gone, now it’s just a house fire. Hope it’s just the latter. And no other losses.

Russian Tourist in Underwear Battles Thai Police in Phuket [video]
animatic replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone tabbed his drink an hour or so earlier. Server lost face because his attitude was not local enough, and the drug wasn’t strong enough to just dtop him, but was strong enough to set him off and overheat. Cops come and he doesn’t react well. -
How the Woke Turned a Suspected Killer Into a Cultural Icon
animatic replied to Social Media's topic in World News
CEO sets policy. He is also on the parent companies board. Hard work by the amoral can lead to success… but who was harmed by their hard work. if you can’t find that evidence which is glaringly public about adverse medical insurance outcomes, don’t expect others to do it for you. PS “Woke” has absolutely zero to do with this. Clearly the most misused word of this decade so far. And absurd it’s used as a pejorative attack, yet most all who accept “Woke” as part of their viewpoint see it as a very positive aspect of their personal philosophy. So an obvious double fail for those using the word to slag the caring. -
Thai Police Hunt 'Foreign Gang' Who Defied Law in Viral Video
animatic replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Absolutely no indication of the laws being broken. In any and all posts there is nothing but police stating thaus arecoutraged and a search is ongoing. What. Did. They. Do? Just total BS -

Thailand Cracks Down on Foreigners Using Thai Nominees
animatic replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Different day same old jingoistic act. Some new guy in a chair of power trying to prove he can appear to be doing something. Farangs being the easiest target for action. Never mind these nominees help bring in international investment. Never mind the laws are in place, but one hand doesn’t know what the other hand is trying to do, so shoots both feet to ‘look active’ -
Nine British tourists arrested for reckless driving in Phuket
animatic replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Or the locals have realistic fear of reprisals… -
Went up there early October it was still pretty dry, but we didn’t go all the way up. Not for the old for sure. But last few weeks have had big rains and last few days even worse rains. He was yet another poor soul who thought he knew more than the locals. This waterfall has water-fed algae growths, that are not obvious to the eye, but make banana peels seem stable footing like mountaineers boots. Every year or so this sad story is repeated.

Thai police report 90% arrest rate in crime crackdown
animatic replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Sure they decide they must arrest someone to be seen doing something 90% of the time. But is that reflected as % of convictions of the actual guilty party? 55 555 They set out to make arrests, so they do. Then, throw out an impressive number, and neglect actual facts. It still sounds “big”. -
Phuket Taxi Mafia Confronts Tourists Over App-Based Ride
animatic replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Overpriced compared to Issan maybe, but hardly over priced in the world market. This is not an argument about Phuket global pricing but about strong arm tactics of Taxi Mafia who are facing safer and more respect giving competition, cutting into their monopoly. No matter if I was leaving that Grab/Uber/etc car, I would never get on a bike with this violent numpty driving. His actions lose him more in one than any imagined gain.- 113 replies

If anyone would be driving on the correct side it would be an English driver. Many ‘foreigners’ do drive wrong side because that is not normal for them. Brit’s drive on Left. So no ID and they assume an English speaker is English. Not yet in evidence. Most likely driving with a snootful and no clue which side if the road they are on.

Proposal Needed for Legal Revisions to Foreign Land Leases
animatic replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Sounds like a state land grab to me. you can buy your land but if you want to lease it to the people who have cash to pay, then you give your land to the State. You may get your lease money. But will it cover cost of purchase and it’s new value in 99 years? As the land increases in value over 99 years, the state takes it and any builldings improvements on your land done by lessee. State land grab triggered by jingoism -
Chinese man calls Thai women prostitutes sparking online outrage
animatic replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I saw more prostitutes in one place soliciting convetioners at Canton Fair in Guanzhou China than in Pattaya or Cowboy/Nana. No question thousands on the game in a big way. This Chinese national slagging these girls is myopic -
I saw the car passing a truck at a reasonable speed. I saw the car standing in a street and craving its motor up. That’s it. The dealer repainted the car, maybe at buyers request and had yet to file at transport office. I repainted a bike, finished paying off the loan and reregistered the bike in my name, and the transport office couldn't just check the VIN and move on. Had to show pictures of before and after. It’s like they can’t grasp that people repaint their vehicles and don’t instantly register at Transport office, but the vehicle is probable by Vehicle Identification numbers on Chassis and Motor. So guy drives car he was told he can drive, and Thais were slow passing papers, so he gets fined after woman goes and whines about what? He came too close to her walking in the streets. Daily occurrence. Well there is nothing unusual with anything in the video different than any daily occurrence. I saw several Thais doing far worse yesterday. But not farangs and not in such an obvious expensive appearing vehicle.
