Good response to this post. It's a far more complex problem than many want to believe when its a new illness never dealt with in the past and no baseline to judge the best response medically. Its one of the many reasons virus, illnesses, etc are studied in labs. To understand how they function and the potential outcomes so we can hopefully be prepared if a critically needed medical response will be needed. Gain of function research is one method of determining the unknown risks, not just to weaponize them as a tool.
