Thailand's Tourism Faces 'Zero-Dollar' Tour Crisis
Wongkitlo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't think it is commissions. The tour company owns the bus from the airport, the hotel they stay in, the restaurant they eat at, the massage shop they have massages at, the souvenir shop for purchases. The customers do not have a choice of where to go. I heard in the past some were kicked off the tour for wanting to be independent. Sure they employ some locals but there is no benefit for local businesses. Is pretty easy to leave the country with money or get somebody to send it for you. -
I sat through it. The journalist investigated it for 2 years and still could only find the Cobra Bar case. If he wants to really check out Ptya wouldn't you mention Soi Pothole, Soi BJ, Soi 13 or Soi 6 other than soi bukhao(the supposed red light district) or Walking St(a tourist attraction for new arrivals). No mention of the countless massage shops or even Boyztown. If an underage wanted to work then the last 2 would probably be the most viable. I am not saying it doesn't happen but enough to warrant a 2,Year investigation and a nearly 1 hour documentary just seems a blow up.

He seemed pretty happy when I said Multi Entry 5000 baht thank you. I did look through the threads and could see no reports of a change. -
Thai Consulate Savannakhet Policy Change
Wongkitlo replied to Tod Daniels's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Hi Tod. Have they definitely gone to 2 months in a Thai bank account. When I received mine in late April I had only deposited the money 1 week earlier. There were no problems. -
Non-imm "O" 1 yr ME visa from Laos

Maybe it has changed. Mine was on 20th April and my 400,000 had only been in the bank for a week. They still accepted it. -
Pattaya Tackles Homelessness with Targeted Beachfront Initiative
Wongkitlo replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Rong Po where they have taken them has a large shelter. Not much there though except for a dirty beach. I guess they would just drift back to Pattaya after a while. -
It sounds good. Prepared to say where? PM if you don't want everybody crowding you out😁

Thanks. Does give confidence for just changing the inner unit. On one they changed the fan a little ago with a second hand one as the original is obsolete. I just needed a solution for a few months but now the replacement fan is noisy. The other has,a,section of the front plate missing. It looks pretty bad so will change for cosmetics.

I have one aircon unit which has a fan in the internal part which needs replaced (noisy) and another where it does not light up or swing up and down. Is it true I only need to replace the internal part and can keep the old compressors( external part) which seem to work fine. Thanks for any input.

Is good advice for them. Likewise thought the DIY forum is hard to find. Whoever decided that people wanting to read the Thai news should need to trawl through all the local news headings to go from one page to another has strange logic. Realistically the only local news relevant to anybody is the one where you live while the Thai news is relevant to the whole forum so why hide it among the local news.

I guess is all perception. She didn't exactly abandon it. She used to be a nurse and her niece who is virtually her daughter ended up in a coma for 4 months in the children's ICU ward in BKK so she came back to nurse her. She needed 2 years of ongoing care and then not so long after when it was time to make decisions and her visa was still valid Covid came. Not saying that will influence the I.O's decision and understand both points of view.

I usually spend low season in Australia and this year my Thai wife of 7 years is threatening to come and visit for a few weeks. She was previously an Australian resident but her Resident Return Visa lapsed during covid and we have little intention of moving back to Australia full time in a hurry. We are both in our late 50's. She has a business in Thailand but it is unofficial with no records. She has property but it is in her son's name but she has a quite large bank balance. My main question is if she applies for a tourist visa and is granted, how long is the visa valid before entry, as she is likely to change her mind and put it off till next low season. I included all the background in case anyone had any thoughts on her chances to suceed with an application.

I think it is,a,different demographic. I remember the fortune teller guys in Bangkok and their scams and the suit salesmen trying to drag you into their shops but I think the ones we get are just company workers with no ulterior motives.

From the comments nobody has ever bothered to talk to any of them. I often talk to them on sontaews. Most seem to be on trips which their work provides them as part of their salary. As you said, they are generally very friendly. It all seems a new world to them and they are interested in other people. I am aware it is an unwritten law in Pattaya that you are not meant to engage or have eye contact with anybody unless asked, but sadly they disregard this.

Western Engineer Assaults Pattaya Bar Women In Row Over Bill
Wongkitlo replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I thought it was more a freelancing thing. They think she is a freelancer so will want to collect a commission after the farung leaves. I've been to a short time hotel with my girlfriend and when we left they wanted to give her the 50 baht commission for bringing a customer there. I am pretty sure she is not a regular there but being Pattaya I guess never know. -
