What do you mean by "no future"? For a retired expat there will always be options to stay in SEA, be it Thailand with retirement visas, or Cambodia/Philippines with very friendly visa policies.

The harsh reality is that in Thailand they basically need to pay women to be with them. The quality of women depends on how much you pay. Most older retirees living off their pension of course cannot pay very much and so end up with older women.

If you are old and want to stay with a young girl long time, you need to pay her more than your pension allows. Old grandmas are cheaper.

When will single day border runs to Cambodia become available again, as in good old pre-covid times? I mean, you pay ~2000 baht to an agency, they take you to the border, do all the paperwork to get a Cambodian visa and bring you back the same day.

If you accept the currency conversion from the ATM, you get a very lousy exchange rate, which adds to your losses. Anyway, withdrawing cash with a foreign ATM card is never a good idea.
