  1. 'No, I CAN'T simplify....' ???????? Look, I get where you're coming from with this post and the apparent sense of frustration behind it, and I'm on your side with that...????.....but you probably CAN simplify, right? If you really wanted to. To the extent any of us are 'dependent' on our gadgets, we mostly choose to be....me included.
  2. A mostly fair & spot-on assessment of what is and what might be. As much as the author rightly points towards how various schemes by certain parties ('schemes' as in 'scheming', imo....with rather negative connotations), are going on, in active & continuous flux, even as I type this.....I find something conspicuously evident & worth noting and that is how the MFP 'appear' to be, in any substantial way, beyond the range of its opponents sniper rifles when it comes to accusations of disingenuous, underhand political hustle.....ie, ruthless, unprincipled scheming. I don't see this with MFP. There are tectonic plates shifting around under Thailand's old rocks that are inexorably and irrestistably about to reformat themselves. And the old bully boys know it.
  3. 'Faces five years in prison', in Thailand - as reported by the Thai media - generally means it's possible, according to what the law can potentially deal out (and thus is more attention-grabbing for news consumers), but if any actual penalties are imposed at all in cases like this (bearing in mind he only, in effect, made a bit of an <deleted> of himself, without malicious intent to offend or cause physical harm), they tend to fit the 'crime' with a more humane degree of good sense applied.* The guy seems genuinely contrite, and wtf did he really do that was that wrong, anyway? *Unless the person charged is a member of a progressive Thai political party, in which case, regarding any minor dismeanor of any nature (ie, picking one's nose), the right to the application of good sense may be voided.
  4. Applying the logic (though it's rather hard) that only from having hit 'ROCK BOTTOM' can a real upward ascent towards some kind of lasting, positive development occur in a society, then I wonder if the senators & all the MPs should not just forget about the PM vote altogether and put the sleepy toad in the PM's seat, without any delay. Makes sense: get the toad in there, experience the inevitable consequences, then things genuinely turn towards the light. Hopefully in my lifetime. Right now: total eclipse.
  5. If I typed what I would really like to say about these senators, in fact all of the junta-appointed senator-hustlers, then a moderator would simply remove/block it. So I apologise for the utterly pointless post.
  6. I stopped reading your post after the remark about you self-cleaning your ears....in the way you describe. My friend, I have a long personal history of ear trouble. Very good ear specialist at a hospital in Bangkok told me, after a life-changing session of removing impacted wax, to 'never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow.' How was it impacted? Years of pushing in ear plugs to sleep soundly. Same with cotton buds. ANYTHING being inserted into your ear by yourself WILL only result in an outcome opposite to the one you hoped for: wax impaction. Sounds like you need to a) get your ears cleaned by a specialist, and b) never put ANYTHING in your ears again, cotton buds, ear plugs, drops....you name it.
  7. 'Macroprudential policy'.....? Me: "Listen dear, I think we need to be more careful about our macroprudential policy." Wife: "So you wanna buy it or not?" Me: "Well......, yeah.....but....."
  8. No. Just no. But maybe you're being witty in a cynical, rather sarcastic way. ????????
  9. Me begs to differ with this commentator's view. From the standpoint of how Thai politics & (to some extent) culture is quite clearly going to change towards a more 'progressive' shift, away from a half-century+ curse of socially-engineered elite-rule status-quo - whether the wretched elite likes it or not - then the honest & resolute declarations the respected & more senior MFP members may make seem not adolescent at all, but worth being taken at face value and with wiser consideration of its message and they (14+ million voters) who 'understand' it and support that message.
  10. I have never before wished & hoped, as much as I do now, that what I am certain will happen in the PM vote....will NOT happen. I refer of course to the peculiar charade going on of MPs, inside & outside of the coalition, speaking as if Pita might just get those required votes to become PM. Ain't gonna happen cos it can't. The appointed senators are poised like assassins. With their deed done, protest and outrage will follow and MPs will then speak of the injustice of it, but those same people seem - to me, anyway - seem oddly & conspicuously quiet about that injustice now. But then....I suppose they can't, in a way, cos the senators can't be accused of sticking the daggers in until they actually do, which they will, but they haven't....yet. What an awful farce. ???? (I'm sorry my post is so gloomy!)
  11. Yes, a 'peaceful and prompt transition of power' must of course be of tremendous importance to you, Prayuth, and have you up at night worrying, given that you have such an unblemished reputation for being one who has abided by the most democratic and statesman-like principles of leadership in your time as PM. The Thai people ought to be jolly grateful to you for your selfless service to the nation and for you to offer a reassuring declaration that you'll meanwhile hang on in there doing your duty as caretaker PM is.....well, quite touching.
  12. My personal, earnest wish for MFP to make it all the way through the traps & ambushes set by their opponents is strong to the point where I'm unsure how much more of this charade I can handle without striding out onto an upstairs balcony beside the street and letting go with the angriest of primal screams......but I still have some admiration for the way that some MFP members, like the lady mentioned in the Khana Ratsadorn incident, are not afraid to say such things and....to my knowledge....NOT do an embarrassing damage-limitation U-turn that betrays their own apparent principles. And anyway, maybe she know what everyone knows.....that MFP are sadly scr*wed no matter what. Why not show some flair? After all, there's the long game, and the long game IS MFP's to win.
  13. To Mr Kittisak - if I may for an indulgent moment imagine he might read this - I say: I have no gift of prophecy, and have lost most bets I've made, but I'm seeing things ahead for you, Mr Senator, that I'd stake certain odds on. The moment you uttered these words ascribed to you, after pocketing your pieces of silver, you kicked a karmic ball that'll roll on and on in your background while you meanwhile forget the whole thing.....until that ball stops outside your door with a jarring 'clunk'. As I have not one tiny bit of doubt that MFP - or they who follow in their footsteps - will sooner or later prevail over the corrupt, repulsive system of which you are a part, I would ask you whether or not you think any future honest & factual histories of contemporary Thai history shall give accounts of your own role in this s***show of events in ways that you would favour? UNelected, only SElected, by the other UNelected (they with guns & tanks), you were and are it seems best described as just a disgraceful nothingburger. (You're welcome.)
  14. I feel bound to say this straight: a great & tragically consequential crime against the Thai nation is about to be committed, in accord with how it was 'constitutionally' (ya gotta laugh ????) designed to operate, by they who most ironically purport to 'love' the nation and its people. My goodness....nearly 10 years after the criminal coup, it's worrying to think that the real, long fight for progressive change, hasn't really even begun. Ain't looking good. Feeling sad as heck. (Forgive my self-indulgent catharsis.)
  15. Splendid sentiment expressed here by Mr Sita and unarguably is what PT & MF OUGHT to do...but also terribly naive of him or anyone to think it's that simple. But he gets a bit of media exposure....and why not? The issue has, imo, now become very much more than PT getting the position for political gain & purpose (or 'clout'). It's now also about not losing face. Now I myself may sound naive, but I feel MF have less òf a concern about keeping or losing face, than they do about allowing themselves the greater authority, later, to better push through politically-sincere manifesto promises. Personally, I rather admire their stubborn resolve to take the position themselves. It shows political grit, which they're gonna need.....in spades.
  16. How dependent? Too much I expect. But it is what it is. ???? Ol' blue eyes himself (Frank Sinatra, for younger members of this forum!) once famously reflected - about teetotallers - 'When they get up in the morning, that's the best they're going to feel all day'. This reflection is full of holes, in many respects I know (please don't crucify me!) but I kind of agree as it pertains to my experience and know from where he's coming from. Booze certainly makes those sharp edges in life a bit more manageable. For me. All I'm saying. Others my criticize that view. No prob. ????
  17. Yes, I have, jimn. It's useful, isn't it? ????
  18. With or without Netflix, youtube is my go-to option. Without youtube, not sure I'd survive for long! It is, for me, a level of dependency almost up there with heroin addiction! ????
  19. Thanks, nchuckle. Yes, the tv & router thing is already set up in the way you describe, fortunately, so I should be ok to access and register with Netflix ok. Well....should! I did do it once before, long ago, when someone gave me their password to use, but for me even that was a nail-bitingly fraught process! People in this forum have very helpfully assured me that the process is very simple and I must admit it does seem to be. Although, I would have confess that I know that level of do-ability, in terms of being able to manage all the process & steps involved, myself, IS about my limit! (I sometimes read the stuff on this forum about router/tv box/media-connectivity-related systems.....and I have not got a SINGLE clue what they're talking about!!????)
  20. ????????......Well, I agree Netflix can be just as you splendidly describe! However.....my wife likes it a lot more than I do, and doesn't mind the 'twaddle' too much (!), so the infrequency with which I use it means I don't exhaust all the good ('better'!) stuff too quickly, while it still being worth paying for (basic package). But I have my old copy of Moby Dick to fall back on if reading required!
  21. Thanks for that. Embarrassingly (for me!) I wasn't quite sure at first what you meant by having to connect to a hotspot. Yes, sorry, you meant wi-fi of course! Which I have.....plus we do have fiber internet connection to house already. Sorry to appear even dumber than I already seemed! But cheers, anyway. You've been very helpful. ????
  22. Ok. I appreciate that head-up info. I'll see if the AIS staff can help me with that 'hot-spot' business! ???? Thanks, Brianthainess! ????????????
  23. That is SO helpful, marin. Yes, it does seem to really be 'a snap'. ???? Even I can understand that! Will head to AIS and add basic Netflix set-up to my monthly package. ???????? Thank you
  24. I'm in Thailand, looking at getting a subscription to watch Netflix on my smart TV. (Well, 2 smart TV's, each at different location, to be exact.) Ok, so what's the problem? Well, the simple, honest answer - as shameful as it is to admit it - is that I don't really have a clue how to do it. (Old and out of touch, I suppose, as is my Thai wife also, unfortunately.) Am familiar with USING Netflix, as used to enjoy being able to connect on someone else's subscription, but that all expired ages ago and now want to set up my own subscription. So how best to do it? Buy cards at 7/11? Use via my AIS phone internet subscription package (somehow)? Where do I go? What do I do? Advice for this old dummy appreciated. (Btw: basic, cheap kind of package, on 2 devices) Cheers ????
