The Thais have no clue what is about to happen. The Chinese are furiously deleting social media videos that show a pandemic. Expect more robberies and assaults, people. Same same during the SARS issue 17 years back.
You mean robberies and assaults in Thailand?

I'm afraid Thailand's reputation of being paradise vacation is no longer strong in Europe. It used to be, for a good reason, but Thailand and feeling about Thailand in Europe changed many years ago.
Rightly or wrongly there's a fear of being murdered, even for raising your eyebrows as we have seen recently. I had to meet a Japanese friend. I told her I'd meet her in Bangkok. She told me Thailand was too dangerous so we met in Singapore. The fear is there, the question is it justified.

In Thailand, always be worth more alive then dead. And by extension, always have more value when you are around, then when you are not. This means, no buying any property and putting it in anybody else's name, not matter how sugar n' spice it may seem at first.
This is not going to help if you are a demented old fool or friends and relatives are threatening and overbearing.

They will be begging expats to come back soon its only a matter of time.
No they won't. Do your research and you'll know why.

No, I wondered the same myself, but I have no idea.
Perhaps he was 'dumped' there? There are numerous cynical Thai - bashing speculations possible, but I refuse to go down that road.
Other TVF members have chastised my compassion but I still believe clemency is warranted in particular cases.
Possibly wife's husband dumped him at immigration like an unwanted dog after money ran out? Pure speculation of course. Nonetheless let it serve as a warning to others not to run out of money in Utopia. Youre only as good as your last dollar especially at 83. I've seen demented old fools falling into this trap. Instinctively wanting to stop the upcoming mess, but you can't fix it when an older person has lost their marbles.

I'll read your post this way.
You are saying you think that an expat married to a Thai should be automatically given a visa/Thai passport to remain in Thailand as soon as they get married?
Or, do you actually mean you believe an expat gets a visa to stay as soon as they marry a Thai?
Genuine questions by the way.
Keep in mind that different rules apply to a male expat marrying a Thai female to a female expat marrying a Thai male.
13 years married to a Thai wife, of course he is entitled to a Thai passport if only he wasn't living in Xenopholand 555. Stockholm syndrome, it's a real mental disorder, incurable it seems 555

Another misreported story and made up headline. He handed himself in at the Immigration office as is now sick and doesn’t have the funds to remain in Thailand.
Im sure no funds had nothing to do with his wife; I'm sure the multitudes suffering from Stockholm syndrome would agree, of course you are in Utopia 666

A strange thing to say, how should they treat someone overstaying his visa with more than 13 years? Just because he's old they should not touch him ?
If he had a Thai wife there should be no need for a visa, why hasn't he been given a Thai passport

It seems many are suggesting that because he is of advancing years he should be granted dispensation from the law.
He knew his responsibilties, ignorance of the law "expecting his wife knew better" is not a defence I am afraid. He had a responsibilty to check that what he was told (alledgedly) by his wife was correct.
I hope he has supports back in the UK, sad case indeed.
Suffering from dementia, likely his Thai wife has taken everything.

rid Thailand of unwanted criminal
The pot calling the kettle black" is a proverbial idiom that may be of Spanish origin, of which English versions began to appear in the first half of the 17th century. The idiom is glossed in the original sources as being used of a person who is guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another and is thus an example of psychological projection,[1] or hypocrisy.[2]

Almost 20% down is not bad.
Anyone who thinks it is the cops fault and they should be every where at all times enforcing traffic laws are small minded, pretty naive and uneducated.
It certainly starts with education and drivers training at an early age which unfortunately is lacking here.
I find it incredulous expats are so naiive to believe anything in the land of make believe. Down 19% 555.

Nonsense. Instances of foreigners working as teachers illegally being arrested, charged and in some cases deported, are not infrequently reported.
B.S..source please. I've shown mine. BOI 360. Teachers have never been charged in Thailand.

The over reaction is a little strange isn't it? The airport security involved must answer to the current federal government, which is currently comprised of 'former' military chiefs who 'the average Joe' would imagine has a strong understanding of the mechanisms of firearms. They surely recognise a single round, (unchambered and in checked luggage) is far from deadly?Firearm cartridges (standard type rimfire/centrefire) can be carried on commercial flights in multiple kilograms, on many carriers in numerous countries, with proper notification and airline consent, so the threat, if measured correctly for a single round (presumably a primer/powder/projectile type in checked luggage is negligible. Basic dangerous goods procedures on international and domestic flights worldwide allow for the carriage of these items. So, Thailand, wouldn't a slap on the wrist, a fine and a wai suffice?
You are trying to stop a good shakedown. They obviously are well aware of your reasoning, why let that get in the way of a good ole shakedown.

What are you talking about? Read the news! It was his friend, Chane, that said 8000 dollar would help for a quick release. Not the police.
After that, it was not the frenchman´s GF. It was the Thai friends girlfriend.
Far to quick to make a judgement without understanding what you just read.
However, getting arrested with no crime committed. There you are spot on.Is your surname gullible, lol ????
