Make a complaint to Immigration headquarters about the officer that stopped you.
I'm betting you didn't even get their name and ID number.
But if your wife has a VISA to live in your country, the very best way is to leave Thailand and never return, while telling everyone why, and involving the western media if possible, for the rest of your life.
Imagine the social media uproar in China if you were Chinese and the bending over by Thai Immigration to appease the awakened giant. Meanwhile Canada sleeps as do other Western consular Directors -- sitting on their bums.

You need to watch with your eyes them swapping the parts because there is a great resistance to changing parts, they look at you as I you are crazy, they might be right in my case 555

Get ready for your move to Vietnam, indefinite 3 month visas for $40, beer at 60% discount in BIG C or LOTTE MART, much tastier food "COM" and beautiful women. It's not so bad to have to leave Thailand 555. You'll survive. However to find a cheap apartment impossible without a Vietnamese friend and this website https://nha.chotot.com/ IMO. Not easy at all to find cheap apartments. Stuff in English on internet is much higher than market price, IMO, a scam. The greatest thing about Thailand is the ease of finding nice cheap apartments and what traps many farang in Thailand.
The only way to find an apartment in Vietnam is with the help of a Vietnamese friend. This is where foreigners can be scammed and pay much more if you look yourself. A Vietnamese friend has confirmed this.

No, he is just being helpful by stating the facts, better to talk straight than be stranded abroad with no way to collect his personal effects and sell his car. Clearly you can not live on tourist visas anymore, but no problem in Vietnam.

I know in 1998 when i was backpacking everyone i met confirmed this was still the case so i avoided it, tried it in 2008 and a couple of text book scams were tried on me, luckily I'd read Lonely Planet where they were listed.
Vietnam doesn't have this problem anymore?
In the tourist areas but you won't lose like you do in Thailand if you have an accident with a rental motorbike and need repairs. I think Vietnam scams are greatly overaggerated. And they wont beat you to death if you dont pay. Nor will you mysteriously die in your sleep for not paying. Vietnamese tend not to not kill tourists.

Breath tests are rare and urine tests for pot never. I call BS on aspects of the above rant. On the checkpoint on Pratumnak/ Thapraya both Thais and foreigners do get checked, mainly for paperwork and helmet issues. However, Thailand is a corrupt police state run by a military junta. its just that in the past only Thais suffered but now due to irreversible changes among ths power elite foreigners are now suffering too. There is an unholy puritanical alliance between the sangha, the power elite and the army to reshape Thailand, break the people and control western influence. This has always been the way of Siam. Saigon is more tolerant than any city in Thailand. Hanoi is not.
Urine tests, he's talking about Pattaya, not Bangkok . I met a Japanese and he was locked up in police cells in Pattaya for riding wrong way on one way street. He shared cell with other farangs. He was released on 10,000 bath bond which was returned. Farang were not released he said. Japanese government will not allow authorities to walk over their citizens abroad, same as Chinese government. I met this Japanese in Penang. He was terrified with Thailand. I have Japanese friends who are too afraid to go to Thailand and this was 10 years ago. Outside of the tourist ghettos I met the lovliest of people in Hanoi. I felt like an adopted Son at my regular restaurant. Vietnamese are not instructed to hate Westerners as a scapegoat for the elite.

Pattaya is like police state. Checkpoints 24/7 I drive a lot big bike got all papers dont drink, but situation is extraordinary. Stopped 3 times a day offten everyday. On top of that they do urine tests etc. Fining pot smokers 10k on spot even they smoked legally at home countries.
One time cop told me whats ur bike cc I said 1000cc he said my licence not good for 1000cc only scooter, tho no such licences and mine full thai 5 years. Less checkpoints in Baghdad. I travel asia a lot too. Never seen this bad. In vietnam its hard to see cop, only one i
I saw was directing traffic. If I wouldn't be attached here I would leave to other place most likely.
Talked to a Russian riding motorbike for 4 months in Hanoi. Never stopped by police. Myself never stopped in Hanoi riding 2 weeks, nor riding to Laos border. Thus Vietnam has backpacker market. Chiang Mai can easily be stopped 12 times in a day. This with the carnage I will never ride again if i ever return.

No, you didn't say the teacher was a farang, but the above quote is misleading, mainly due to the grammar used, and the way the sentence was constructed.
Yes very misleading, he's probably an English teacher, lol. We all know dissidents are treated so well in the land of scams, lol.

The guy should be given a Thai passport for his devotion to Thailand, as would happen in most democracies with an amnesty. Thailand needs to give him a Thai passport. Come on, only fair.

Yes- I see the same thing- mostly people in ther 20s and 30s who have no patience; know nothing about Thailand; speak no Thai; speak broken English and are generally arrogant.
Most 20 to 30 year olds are not sex tourists. They have no need to learn to Thai to find a wife.

The first mistake that the OP made was to complain when he was taken out of the line and put to one side with 20 others. So the question that the IO's would be asking themselves is "what is he complaining about and why?" and that got him off side with the IO's, so I believe that because of that the IO's decided to go by the book and to check everything and because the OP has already gotten himself worked up he did not listen to the questions properly and he misinterpreted what was said to him which made him more aggressive towards the IO's and complain even more. This type of thing does no only happen in Thailand, it happens in every country in the world.
He is 80 years old you spineless apologist.

No, it´s not. For stating something like this you must be sure. The question is if you understood what they were asking for?
As Ubonjoe explains, they nowadays ask that you show 20k baht when entering thailand on a tourist visa, and 10k baht on exempt entry. That was probably what happened here. That is something that has been informed of and known for long time.
I understand that you see this as strange at the age of 80 years old, but unfortunately things change. It was probably you that did not roll with the changes, rather than the Immigration Officers trying to get a bribe from you. Especially that border has been regognized as a generally friendly border to enter Thailand at.Generally friendly border compared to North Korea's borders. I totally agree 555. Friendly, and they only ask farang to show 20,000. Friendly, yes so very friendly. The delusional farang and what they define as friendly, astounding. The 80 year old OP had a tourist visa, and you call the border friendly, shame on you! The sooner people boycott Thailand the better. 80 years old God dammit. Miserable excretement of a welcome, obviously not friendly at all.

While it may be what you wanted to hear, there was recently a story of a german expat who did the same as you come off retirement get toruist and he was denied in bangkok and sent back to germany. At the current time no one can say for sure if you will be denied or not, up to the IO on the day. Best bet would be to fly into chiang mai then transfer to bangkok.
Why risk it when you can fly into KL and be sure to be welcomed. I think you are out of your mind to risk it. Thai airports for international flights i will always considered closed. Absolute madness to fly into Thailand if not on a retirement or marriage visa.

How dare these foreigners bring lots of paying tourists and business to Thailand! Let's not talk to them and sell the permit to them, instead we will send them to jail and courts where they will be guilty until proven innocent. Then they will pay big money for not understanding our very difficult to understand system of payola.
Why werent these foreign criminals identified by the new biometric system before they arrived. Vietnam would welcome them in a heartbeat.

You don't know how lucky you are. Immigration has done you a favour. Take a look at the beautiful women in Vietnam and Philippines. You have escaped. Thank God you haven't ended up trapped in the Land of sh*te

You are now under extreme suspicion now that you have a new passport with your record of denial and deportation and suspicions of being a pauper. Time for you to realise Thailand doesn't want you. If you could speak Thai you'd realise that already. Immigration have done you and many others a huge favour. Try Cebu, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia.

Possibly, but many will know a rip off when they see one, and may refuse to pay on principle.
Thailand gets 40 million tourists a year, 10 million of these stay for one hour crossing the borders of Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myannmar. 20 million enter by airports for connecting flights to another country. They are stamped in for 30 days while waiting in airport for their flight to far cheaper destinations. That leaves 5 million Chinese, Indians and farang who have not discovered Thailand is the hub of mysterious death and slowly decomposing bodies in morgues with no chance of a coroner's report and autopsy. Your son or daughter died for unexplained reasons. Welcome to the land of smile.

Random searches/urine tests of foreigners in the Sukhumwit area (especially around the Asoke intersection area) was very common a few years ago, to the extent this outrage made the international press. I had a business contact overlooking the area, and we would watch the villains at it every day; the vermin would even drag folks from taxis.
Don't underestimate what the Thai police can or can't do, they are a law unto themselves.
I guess this is why they now need the Indians. Social media very damaging. I know they would never harass their Chinese tourists because their President would have something to say and the Thais would beg for forgiveness. It's a shame Western leaders are so pathetic at protecting their Citizens.
