this was an unplanned attack
We don't know that. He may have been brooding over the land deal for a while and decided he was going to get even come what may.

Yep, hiya = monitor lizard, terrible insult.

If he's got grenades and hostages the only way is for a sharpshooter to take him out. Anything else and it will be more carnage.

Agreed; a 20 second clip in which he is seen walking inside the mall does does not depict a professional soldier in CQB mode as you'd expect from a professional soldier.
Can you link the clip?

But allegedly some guy holed up in there said he is wearing a strap on bomb and is threatening to blow himself up
I can see him getting guns as a soldier. Bomb? I doubt it.
Ok, grenades yes.

Maybe he is one who has seen the light there's a lot of unhappy soldiers in the army that dont support the current worsening situation
Maybe but it don't make no sense to shoot up a T21. He's snapped and/or drugs.

Exactly where is he holed up in the mall?

Apparently, got shafted by his commanding officer in a land deal (stupid to shaft someone who has access to guns and access to you), killed him and then went on a rampage.
I understanding killing the guy who shafted you (not condoning) but I am trying to fathom then setting off to take it out on a bunch of strangers.
Only thing I can think of is that in his head Terminal 21 clientele equates with the "rich people who shaft poor people".

I am wondering if I would want back a car after repairs that took 3 months.

Can I go to the police and get some kind of authorization to have the current district office give me the information I need.
On what basis would police give you this authorization? As JW says the info is private or the district office would have shared it.

Good for the guy. The mask is obviously so that some dumb person hailing him doesn't freak out, oh no, I am not going in your cab.
Don't mean to downplay taking precautions but it is a flu variant, not ebola. An otherwise healthy person should recover on their own in a week of laying low, plenty of fluids and paracetamol.
True it's a new variant but med labs have a lot of experience with flu obviously and it's not surprising they are coming up so quickly with drug combinations to fight this thing.

You sir are a stud. Thailand is blessed with your presence. As are we on TV.

At Tops I say my phone no. which gets them my 1Card member id (alternatively I could produce my 1Card and let them run it).
However, what might be relevant to the OP is that when there's some special discount the cashier wants to see my passport. Understandable as that's my id as a foreigner.
Maybe the OP unbeknownst to him had an item on a special (2b. less even) which required id. In any case, no biggie if you have your PP page pics on your phone (as you always should).

Late night last night Suvarnabhumi was a ghost town. There were actually immigration counters without a line. Zero, nada, the officer was playing on his phone when I waltzed straight up. Landed at 1am, was home 1:40.
TAT may complain, I won't.

Requirements are here. https://division1.immigration.go.th/download/1551323081128.pdf
Yep, it's me again, UJ. I keep bugging you. This form is terrific particularly as it's official and has both Thai/English.
Question: Is there a similar official requirements doc for applying for the extension based on retirement?
Thank you for bearing with me.
PS: I did see the link to
https://www.thethailandlife.com/the-thailand-retirement-visa-guide
in a recent thread which lists required docs for retirement extension, but a Thai/English official one is better.

Lot advertised on Lazada. Nicely packaged seeds if you have the time and a place for delivery:

2) Need letter from bank. Banks understand the local IO requirements and tailor the letter and supporting documents accordingly.
Thanks. If you have one would you mind sharing a redacted version of such a letter? This way I (or any new applicant) could show it to the bank and they would know right away what we're there for, instead of having trying to explain matters in limited Thai.

Checklists for required documents do exist, but the OP needs to tell which immigration office he belongs to. The requirements can differ a bit between offices.
May I ask the checklist for Chaengwattana?

Couple of questions if I may related to the OP:
1. Does the lump sum 800k in the bank for retirement extension have to be from a foreign transfer?
2. The thethailandlife.com link above mentions a "bank letter". I assume this applies to the monthly method only. For the lump sum method just the updated passbook is needed to show that the 800k/400k has been in the account for the requisite amount of time (per UJ's post above) and no bank letter, correct?
If not, it would nice to see a (redacted) version of such a letter to know exactly what it contains. Presumably, major bank branches would be familiar with the process.
