  1. I just wanted to warn anybody who is looking for a hosting company. I host with them since 4 month and the server is offline at least 3 times a week. Sometimes for more then a hour.

I hosted 4 years with 1and1 (all the time one single problem with email, though it took them +30h to fix it) I changed to 3ix.org because they are a lot cheaper. They also accept payments via Thai Bank, which was the main reason the advertisement from them caught my attention.

However, they are absolute utterly beyond believe crap!

If you need your internet content accessible most of the time, stay very fare away from this company. It is a absolute time waste and in some cases can cost a lot more, then the few bucks you safe with them.

I'll return to the old provider.

  2. Here you can hear it, that is maybe better then the whole phonetic spelling...

    http://dict.leo.org/lf?2849683

I also think, since it is a French company it should be pronounced in French.

Car four or Karfoer sounds very funny. [Do you remember the joke with the American who asked a stranger to paint his por(s)ch(e)?]

I would think Thai people pronounce it quit ok, it is just the last "r" which is difficult to spell for them.

  3. Hi,

I think it depends on the weight of the package, if you send something around 20kg UPS is cheaper.

    UPS Thailand:http://wwwapps.ups.com/calTimeCost?loc=en_...p;WT.svl=SubNav

    Post Thailand:http://www.thailandpost.co.th/search_ems_en.asp

    Aramex:http://www.aramex.com/express/rate_and_time.aspx

I couldn´t find the rate for aramex in the online calculator, error in the zip code. UPS charges around 5400 Thb. for a standard 25kg Box. If Aramex is really 50% cheaper, that would be a very competitive price.

  4. Hello,

there is a Hotel in walking (less then a km) distance of the Queen Sirikit Hospital. It is the Swan Lake Hotel. I never stayed there, but heard it would be not so nice.... Its also in walking distance of a disco and quit a few Karaoke Bars :o.

In Ban Chang, which is aprox. 8km distance from the Hospital are a few Hotels and resorts. Some on the beach. Maybe better you stay there and rent a moped to drive to the Hospital.

Traffic in that area is easy manageable.

  5. Hi Richb2004v2,

for 8000 Thb. you can buy an entry level Trek bicycle. I think Trek offers good value for the money in Thailand. There is one shop on Tepparasit road, where you can take a look.

If you drive from Jomtien on Tepparasit Road towards Sukhumvit Road it is around 1.5 km on the right side past a 7/eleven. This shop usually offered me around 10% discount from the list price.

    post-31788-1185078941_thumb.jpg

If you are willing to drive to Sattahip, there is a small shop near the new Tesco. They also sale Trek bicycles, usually they don't have much in stock but can order within 1-2 days.

I always buy bicycles there, they give 20% discount on the list prices.

  6. Below is a short travelogue of my day in Bangkok... admittedly, it's personal, only about ME, (my favorite topic)... so if that idea/concept offends you, don't bother reading...

I left Pattaya, by public bus, 95 baht, nonstop to Mo Chit (northern) bus station, cause it's sort of in the direction of the IMPACT center, where I was going to the TRAVEL SHOW. Now I posted a mention of this last week, and I'm certain almost no farangs that saw it actually went to the show, because there were virtually NO FARANGS at the travel show. It was YOUR LOSS... the show was great... very large, free entrance, well organized, Thai dancing, lots of entertainment... I took a taxi from the bus station right to Impact, cost me 112 baht...

I got one of those trolleys, (had to give a 500 baht deposit), and I discovered I was really good at something: pushing quickly through crowds. The travel show was VERY CROWDED, and there were over 30 aisles to see, so the ONLY way I could do it in two hours was to just barrel through people, with my trolley... Now the Thai people have to be the friendliest people on the planet, because I must have ran that trolley over at least two or three hundred feet, often just people wearing "flops"... I made up my mind I could do it in two hours, so I just pushed and bumped into ANYONE and EVERYONE, young and old, (but I did allow someone in a wheelchair to go ahead of me)... that's just the kind of person I am... very giving... but some people, I admit I hit pretty hard, and usually didn't even look back... it was that way, or I wouldn't have seen the show... But people didn't seem to mind, I think in part because I'm such a genuine and sincer person... for Pattaya standards, anyway... ....

I really hope that your stories are only daydreaming satire to polarize people...

  7. Connect it with a LAN cable only. As your router is already configured you don`t need to change there anything.

If you need to change something open your internet explorer and type http://192.168.1.1 , that should be the address of your router. The rest is self explaining.

The router address may be a little bit different you may take a look at the manual.

I am a self-admitted GPS phreak. Since we are coming to Thailand again for 3 months this winter, am looking at purchasing a Garmin eTrex Legend Cx or Venture Cx in either Singapore or Thailand (yes, I know Singapore might be a bit cheaper...) .... BUT - the unit must be equipped with the Thailand City Select 6.7 mapset - which I understand COULD also be available in Singapore.

Can anyone assist me with possible sources (either in BKK or SIN).

Thank you in advance for your input.

Yes - One at a time of course... (each new install will over-write the other).

By the way, the horrendous price that is charged for Thailand GPS maps is the reason we have been working for years at this project...

So I got that right, you made a GPS Map for Garmin devices of more then 90 MB yourself which you will give free of charge to anyone, who donates 100 bucks for you....?

  9. Hello,

I am married to a thai national for 18 years. Since the last 6 years we live in Thailand. In the past I had usually a Multiple Non O and did visaruns or had a visa based on the marriage / 400,000 Thb.

Last year I was lucky, as I had the 400,000 Thb :D . but this year I am short around 190,000 Thb :D . My visa will expire on the 6. April. So I think, my only option is a new Multiple Non O and then every 3 Month visa runs again :o .

My monthly bank transfers to Thailand are well over the 40.000 Thb. a month but I don`t have any proof for that.

    So my question is:

Is it still possible to get a Multiple Non O in Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong?

2 Years ago I had a Multiple Non O from Penang, which was very easy, but the board search revealed that this is no longer possible in Penang.

So what about Kuala Lumpur, anyone was successfull in the last couple of days?

    Thanks for an answer :D

  10. One thing I would take time to communicate very clearly with the dealership is where the Lamina logos and film's serial/model numbers appear on the window. I was in a Triton last year where the Lamina logo and a 10 (?) digit number appeared almost exactly half way up the windows on both front doors, huge distraction when looking in the door mirror.

Yes, so totally obvious no one would ever put the film on in such a way, but TIT.

You can easily remove this logo and serial numbers from the film with a special fluid, the reason they don't make it when they install it

is that you are able to check which film is really installed.

  11. He soon realized that a small bag had been left behind by the Norwegian and inside was 900 US Dollars, 70 Euro’s, 100 Pounds Sterling and 200 Norwegian Krona.

I was never very bright when it comes to calculations, but the above mentioned aren't near 200k. Maybe around 45k.

If the driver received 200Us$ I think it was a fair deal on both sides. If the Norwegian really had 200,000 Baht in the car, I think 200 Us$ are a little bit shabby :D

One should consider the average income of a taxi driver in Thailand to judge this case. I think a cab driver makes around 10 a month net.

So the alleged sum of 200.000 are equally 20 month of his net profit.

Maybe most Farangs here have around 50-100k a month net, so 20 month of hard work :o for the average Farang would be 1 to 2 Million Baht.

What would you do, if you make 100k a month and find a case with 2 Million in and you have a chance to give it back?

  12. Here is a online shop:

    ThaiGPS.net

    By the way EuroBoy

Thats Kool! You would never get lost easily i guess. I was also planning to buy that, in case someone steal my Notebook or i get lost while traveling by taxi with a bad taxi driver. smile.gif

I don't get it. What is the advantage to have a bluetooth GPS if someone steals your notebook?

I use Mapking V7 with a PPC, it is ok but I assume the Garmin maps are better. Mapking has often problems in BKK with one way streets.

    Greg,

could you try to route Rayong to Hua Hin. The route my Mapking gives out on that particular connection is totally crazy. It ended up with more then 1100km!

  13. I would buy a small Yaris or even better a used car. I bought 3 years ago a Nissan NV for 250.000 Baht. This year I sold it, because I bought a new Vigo. I sold the NV for 195,000 Baht within 2 days to a used car dealer tent:huh:, I drove 90,000km with that car.

I also asked Toyota for a trade in, but they didn't offered me more, so I sold it to the tent and paid cash for the new one.

If you buy a new Yaris and sell it after one year you will probably loose around 100,000-150,000 Baht from the sticker price.

If you pay cash and you don't want any accessories, which they usually offer instead of a discount, you should be able to get a discount around 5-7% from sticker price for a Toyota.

Maintenance is dirt cheap, insurance for one year is always included.

So if you buy one you could save around 100,000 Baht.

Or you go with the a new Camry, then you probably loose the same amount then if you rent your Yaris but the car is much more comfortably then the one you rent now.

  14. Hi,

may you try some of the german restaurants, the "Bratwurst" or "Currywurst" is similar.

    thumb_slagersfrikandel.jpg

    often served sliced:

You could also buy them fresh in Foodland. Bottle of ketchup, some curry powder, a grill and charcoal and you can enjoy a great Currywurst :o

Bumrungrad Hospital is a government hospital and it's the cheapest and is good for minor problems and dirt cheap prices. Not for complicated or serious problems.

    Gary74,

you`ve ever been to Bumrungrad Hospital or did somebody provide you these info?

  16. Hi shopgurl,

    - how to make a link after clicking open in another new window

Click on "insert Hyperlink" and second window click on "target frame"

    - how to do links to the bigger image when clicking on the little image of it

If you got only a 1-3 pics on a page, I would recommend you the same way as above. Just make the thumbnail clickable. If you got a lot of pictures, I would recommend you to use the FrontPage Photo Gallery. It is also in the "Insert" - "Picture" menu.

    Bye
