three years ago I moved and had already a 5 year license. I wanted to change the address as I use often the DL as an ID.

The Transport Department issued a new DL with an updated address but the valid date was as on the original one.

3 Month ago my 5 year DL expired and I forgot it to renew in time. I renewed it 3 weeks ago and got almost 6 years validity (June 2018) in sync with my birthday now.

So I assume lost license replacements the date remains the same as on old license.

New (5 year only?) license issued they now start to sync validity with birthday.

i really dont see the big issue. This is widely done and accepted in the usa. Examples state and county parks [golf courses] in florida. Also disney and universal studios just to name a few.

Can you explain what you mean? True, state park or country parks/ beaches may charge an outsider more because they did not contribute to the local tax which supports the park or beach. In Thailand, 25 % of my salary goes to taxes in Thailand but I still have to pay more in their natiional parks. If a Thai or any other nationality goes to purchase a membership at a fitness club in the USA, it will be the same for the "foreigner" as the American. I think we are comparing apples and oranges.

If you are paying Thai Taxes and not getting the Thai price IT'S YOUR FAULT. I show my Thai drivers license or ,on few occasions, my Work permit and ALWAYS get the same price as my Thai Wife....

Well next time you are in Bangkok try Lumpini Stadium with you driving license... They will explain to you where you can put your license or WP.

And in that case it is not a few percent you paying more. A Thai pays something about 200 THB, if you are a foreigner you pay minimum 1000 THB up to 2000 THB.

They clearly explain to you, that it doesn't matter to them if you stay 20 years in Thailand, pay taxes, speak Thai or whatever.

You are a farang and you pay like a farang.

I think in USA it is a resident discount.

There are quit a few "official" places that charge a non Thai person a higher price never mind you have a tax id, work permit, driving license etc.

But also a lot of venues accept for example a driving license to get the "Thai" price.

I agree it is ok to make two pricing for Tourist and locals but it is not ok to make that decision on the race of the visitor.

I am looking to buy a car from Chevrolet in Ubon Ratchathani. The dealership are offering 3.6% interest p.a. which would mean a hefty 21% over 6 years. The car value is 587k but I will end up paying close to 700k!!!

I was wondering if getting a loan from my bank instead would work out cheaper? Information I have been getting is that the banks charge the same.

Just for the sake of argument compare that to car loans in Europe. They go up to 7-12 % p.a. Compared to that loans in Thailand are pretty cheap. However I believe that you could do better than that if you chose a shorter period.

There is a paradox at Thai car dealers: they go

for longer finance periods as their commission is higher; but too long and you get hit with a higher interest rate. Try at least to have some goodies thrown in.

Thai finance only sounds cheaper as in Europe because Thais calculate the interest on the total sum x years.

For example you lend 600,000 with 2% p.a. (2 % 12000THB per year) for 48 month you pay even in month number 47 1000 THB interest to finance.

In Europe the interest is calculated only on the amount you owe to the bank! In the above example:

600000 x 2% p.a. 48 month fixed thai style =

600000 + (12000*4)=648000 total

Thats about 3.85% if you use the correct way to calculate interest.

587000 + (21132*6)=713792 ( interest 126792 THB) thats about 6.7% p.a. outside of Thailand...

The TT rate is always the best only if you compare within the same Bank.

Usually it is possible to exchange cash always slightly better the Telex Transfer, but you must exchange in Bangkok.

For example today the best TT rate for Euro was Bangkok Bank with 38.65 THB, Cash Exchange for BBL was 38.4 THB.

Cash Exchange at Super Rich Ratchadamri was 38.8 THB, so better then Telex. In your case with 10,000 it is 386,500 THB Telex Transfer or 388,000 cash in Bangkok. 1500 THB not much difference and you have the risk.

If you carry cash change to 100 or 500 notes, exchange rates for bigger notes are slightly better.

By the way, you can take as much money as you like into Thailand, you only should declare it. Declaration is also very important at you departure airport in Europe.

I can only speak for Kasikorn, i have a normal thai baht account which supports online banking. Kasikorn calls it cyberbanking. From the thai baht account i can also do online transfers to foreign countries.

The Euro account is not online accessible. Also the passbook of this Euro account can only be updated in the bank which opened the account. You can't do it yourself, the self service printer don't work with the foreign currency accounts. On top of that Kasikorn charges about 1200 baht bank fees for every deposit you do.

If you decide to move for example Euro to your Thb account they use the slightly better Telex transfer rates. In Pattaya only a few Kasikorn branches are able to open currency accounts, I use the one next to Tukcom.

There is another huge company near Bitec, but I forgot the name. They do only leather seats for cars and nothing else... If I remember the name I'll send it to you.

Under 10.000 THB sounds very, very cheap for leather and very expensive for vinyl .

Usually Vinyl are only covers, the old fabric stays on the seats. If you convert to real leather they will remove the old fabric and put some glue on the seats before the leather goes on.

So going back to fabric is more complicated then with vinyl. Also installation takes at least one day for leather and you will notice the smell of glue for about 2-3 days.

Vinyl installation is 1-2 hours if you remove the seats.

If you want the iron on there are two shops that I know of. One is in the old Carrefour first floor in front of Bata shoe shop. The other one is in BIG C Sukhumvit in front of Thanachart.

Look and feel of iron on transfer paper is different to a silk screen, it feels hard, colors often looks washed out and it's uncomfortable to wear.

If you sometimes go to Bangkok there is a small shop in Union Mall Lat Phrao which has a DTG (direct to garment) printer. Printing of a T-Shirt cost about 200 Baht, but you can only print on white Shirts. The output of such a printer is often better as a screen print, especially if it comes to resolution and you can not feel any difference between printed or not printed area.

Which makes such a shirt very comfortable to wear.

thanks for the Info. I think I'll stay with True as I was happy with the speed. I was only a little bit annoyed because of the ad on there website.

I mean, for me it is absolute impossible to download 1.25 GB on there EDGE networtk. It is extremely slow. So I think a lot of people only read the 1.25 GB and don`t look that there is no 3G service included anymore.

It is like a buffet restaurant, imagine usual time limit is 90 minutes, food is fine and price is fair.

You go there for 1 year and next day they announce the time limit now not 90 minutes but 3 hours, same price as before... Most people think, cool more time same price....

You pay and enter the restaurant.

Great service from True. Only question I have, how do you use 1.25 GB of traffic on True Edge. Foooqing EDGE is so slow, the speedtest doesn't even start.

1673km on a 80 ltr. tank works out to 4,781829 ltr. (not 5,1 ltr). IMHO both numbers are only for advertising purposes, as only somebody who still belives in Santa Claus would takes this without a grain of salt.

If your car uses 5,1 ltr on 100km it is 16,73*5,1 ltr=85,323 ltr.

So you must stop to refill during the 1673 trip, which they probably did

I was there last Friday. Take the 3 from Chonburi, if you use the toll way leave it early enough... I left it to late and had to do two U-turns in heavy traffic. That mistake cost me around 45 minutes. The entrance to the Ikea car Park is from the Road 3 only.

Shop is nice, also a lot food stuff like Knaeggebrot, Jam and chocolate and frozen cakes, pizza etc.

Chocolate was only 29 Thb. for 100gr. !

Take a cooling box along, just in case...

I use TomTom Thailand (offline navigation) often on my Iphone, works fine. I also have 2 Garmin units and there is no big difference between. The TomTom App works great,on the Ipad it even supports dual view (junction view only in BKK and map) since the last update.

Garmin units bought outside of Thailand doesn't support junction view at all, which is why I prefer the Iphone in Bangkok.

However GPS reception and lock on is better and faster on the newer Garmin units compared to the Iphone.

Usually every big mall has a section with small mobile phone shops, you'll find bluetooth stereo headsets there.

MBK Center on 5. or 6. floor has a huge selection of this small stalls. Bluetooth accessories are not cheap in

Thailand.
