  1. Hi Graham,

in case you not already bought the seat cover I would recommend you to install the covers at the shop where you buy it.

The prize is usually incl. installation and most of them do a very good job because they do it everyday.

4 Years ago I bought PVC covers for a Vigo, 120k KM later they still look very good and everything in place, cost was around 3500 Baht. Took the shop around 1 1/2 hours to install.

Last year I bought a Mazda 2 and choosed leather, cost was around 13000 THB and took around 6 hours to install. If PVC the cover comes over the OEM fabric and you can remove it easy, if you choose leather the old fabric will be removed. PVC is easy to install, leather I would only install at the fabric which produce the covers.

I would only buy PVC covers that are specifically for the model you want to install it, not the ones that comes in 3-4 standard sizes often seen outside supermarkets like Big C etc.

If you plan to transport kids, dogs and or som tum eating friends :D in the car I would choose PVC, very easy to clean and durable, otherwise leather is more comfy to sit on and smell is also better.

  2. Thanks Bangkokboro,

Any reson why I should not use Western Union to recieve payment?

If the buyer is willing to pay via Western Union then it is ok, in this case the risk is on the buyer side.

If he pays with Paypal ship only with DHL, EMS or any shipping company which provide online tracking, in case the buyer starts a complaint.

As a seller I would prefer the WU payment because there is a small risk of fraud with Paypal payments, as a buyer I would never transfer such a large amount (or even much smaller amount) via Western Union.

  3. For a small broche it is not worth to think about. A closed international signed for with 120 grams cost you 149 THB, if you would sent it as a small package closed with string it is 121 THB.

Price difference is 28 Baht :annoyed:

Send as small package is cheaper if you send heavy items but a small package must be below 2kg.

Customs in the receiver country open everything sometimes. If you could avoid that simply by close the envelope the dream of some people came true :whistling:

Put a customs declaration CN22 on the letter, mark gift worth 12 Euro and the receiver will get it duty free almost anywhere in the world.

  4. Your future ex-wife could extract the car from you very easily with the help of the BiB and a small contribution to the Saturday night massage fund, it would take her 1-2 hours and she drives away with a smile on her face and the wind in her hair.

I would calculate what you really loose if you just write it off.

You probably paid a down payment of around 150.000 THB. You also paid around 10 months, maybe 10.000 THB a month?

Total investment around 250.000 THB? Why not swallow your pride and ask your wife for a transfer nicely.

If she is not interested to sign the transfer for nothing, who could blame her ;), offer her money. 50-70k cash on her paw by the time she signs the contract in Thanachart branch.

I would offer it to her in a tight timetable, invite her to Zen or a nice restaurant in a Mall which has a Thanachart branch, during the dinner discuss the subject.

If she is not interested make the offer.

Have 50k cash in your pocket. Most Thai girls think in now time, not tomorrow. She could end the dinner 50k richer with just a little signature.

Otherwise the bank will collect it soon and auction it off. If the auction prize not cover the debt she will be responsible for the remaining amount. Used Proton cars are not easy to sell at an auction or anywhere else.

If you pay her 50k you loose only 50k, otherwise you loose more.

  5. Tanachart has a bluebook version online:

    http://www.thanachartbluebook.com/search.asp

    It`s free.

15000 a month is ridiculous, I doubt that this is a Thai. Only a Farang can be that dumb and assume other people to fall for it :D

Thai scammer would politely answer your question and offers you a fair commission for the deal before he drives your car to the Cambodian border :D

What motivation has an agent to sale the car if he gets paid by month? :annoyed: Once the car is sold the cash cow is dead.

  6. A couple of week's ago I did a trip of 498km fuel used 41lt 12 + km to the lt, the display read 10.1. Today did a run full tank 240km filled up on my return 14.5lt over 16 km/lt was going slow though and very little trafic display 10.1km/lt so dont think there very accurate. Just a toy.

Sorry, but ever thought about that the guy at the fuel station not always fills up to the same level? Some pumps are very quick and close automatic fast.

To drive 240km with 14.5 ltr. in a 3.0 Fortuner is not possible, even if you have a manual, turn of AC and cruise with 75km on an empty highway.

    and to shariq607

well my MID is showing 13.4 l/100 km as avg i think its fine is this a correction avg fuel consumption of a fortuner ? its a diesel though

You wrote Litre/100km not Kilometre/on a Litre. 13.4 Litre on hundred km is quit lot for a Fortuner.

Better is to calculate it yourself:

    Litre per Kilometre= Litre * 100 / km

Example: you drive 800km and fill it up with 72.00ltr = (72*100)/800=9 Litre.

Or for Kilometre per Litre: km / Litre

    Example: 800/72=11,11111 km per Litre.

  7. I have good experiences with Post or EMS. Avoid UPS. If you lucky it slips through marked as gift, otherwise you can pay the duties at your local post office if shipped by Post or EMS.

8 small packages shipped via Post I paid only once import duty. From 3 packages shipped via Courier like UPS, Fedex etc. I paid 3 times import duties, though they arrived also very fast.

Because the camera is quit expensive I would use EMS (Parcelforce).

  8. Hi,

the depreciation of a car is in Thailand extremely low.

I would recommend you to buy a car and sale it later. A very cheap car for a single is Nissan NV.

A nice one will cost around 200k Thb., you can use it for two years and sale it again, cost you maybe around 50k Thb depreciation probably less.

Maintenance and spare parts of Japanese cars are usually dirt cheap, especially for this model.

Honda Jazz, City, Toyota Vios, Yaris are also cheap to drive but cost more initially.

  9. Hi,

did the biscuit tin on the roof looked similar to these ones?

    Mobile%20satellite%20TV%20antenna230.jpg

That is a mobile sat dish for people who likes to look TV or use satellite internet in a moving car.

I doubt that the BIB invest they hard :) earnings in such a luxury and useless item.

  10. Not possible I'm afraid, unless you have an import license you are not allowed to bring in more than your allowance.

Feel free to go through the red channel, but you will lose your booze and get fined for smuggling (and lose your legitimate bottle as well).

Either chance the green lane or don't bring it.

I doubt very much that you will get a fine for smuggling if you use the red channel. By using the red channel you show your willingness do pay import duties.

IMHO worst thing that can happen is that they confiscate the bottles and give you a bill because they need to destroy :) it.

Because your import is a private matter without any commercial intent , I think that there is no import license necessary.

However, if you use the green channel the fine for smuggling is possible. If you use the green channel you can`t say: please destroy it.

If you use the red, you can do so.

  11. Hi,

if you are concerned about power consumption you may take a look at a inverter AC. I bought 3 Daikin Inverter AC last year and I am very happy with it. The outdoor unit start and running more silent then others.

I would not buy any AC`s at Homepro, Powerbuy etc. look instead at tarad.com. You can save 30-40%.

    Example Daikin FTKD18GV2S 17700 (5100-19800) BTU 27,500 THB.

    homecoolair.com

the price at Powerbuy is 41,800 THB.

    Powerbuy.co.th

If you buy a new AC a standard installation (up to 4m or so...) is usually included in the price.

  12. I think the car dealer will never buy your car back because in the end it is just too expensive, never mind how cheap you sell it.

Example: 2006 Fortuner market price around 850.000

You may agree to sell it back to terdsak for 700.000 because you just want get rid of it.

Terdsak pays you 700.000 Thb. -

After that he must pay off the leasing company to get the book - maybe! 1.200.000 THB.

So he`ll pay 1.9 Mil for a car that maybe is worth 850.000 Thb.

I think that is not going to happen.

Time is also no solution here, the resale value is slowly decreasing and the remainder of debt is increasing (% Finance Company)...

You may park the car near the Cambodian border and try your luck in the spare part business...

Terdsak can be very happy that this mistake happened with a polite and patient Farang. Imagine if he had sold the car to a General of the Royal Thai Navy or Bib :)

  13. Pattaya Central Beach has a DVD store which also sales Blue Ray discs. The shop is on the right side if you enter from the beach, on the same floor as powerbuy.

There you`ll find originals but the selection isn`t big and expensive also.

  14. Maybe someone who can read Thai can bring some light to this problem. The Truevision / UBC call center was of no help.

They have the opinion that the Truelife Freeview Package is from another company ( no commissions I suppose) and will tell you, that only a Truevision package with a contract will provide you the 10th rerun of Everybody loves Raymond...

From the TrueLife flyer I understood it , that if you have a Truemove Sim you just simply dial *999*your 14digit smart card number*4xxxxx(your new package number according to page 3 of the flyer)*08xxxxxxxx(your True move Tel. number)#and dial. The costs will be deduct from truemove prepay credit.

I don`t have the package yet, I`m just in the process to buy one.

    TrueLife Flyer:

    post-31788-1259822606_thumb.jpg post-31788-1259822624_thumb.jpg post-31788-1259822636_thumb.jpg post-31788-1259822647_thumb.jpg

I called Truevision three times today, one agent hang up and the other two told me it would not be possible to watch any subscription package on the TrueLife Freeview package.

Of course they would be more then happy :) to sell me subscription for a minimum of 6 month with a rental decoder box.
