  1. What do you mean "Where do they swipe the credit card?" contactless phone payments via NFC have been around for like 7 years already. Couldn't be simpler. I still don't want cashless anything though ever. I prefer cash.
  2. Are those services like Bangkok Buddy available now? Also what are the restrictions for crossing + enterting from Cambodia?
  3. I arrived via airplane from Malaysia (border run) What are my options for extending as long as possible? USA Visa Exempt Thanks in advance!????
  4. Hi do you think I can fly to Malaysia and back on a 1 day trip? First border run since 2019. No vaccine. I don't mind taking the test though.
  5. Just need to buy more time until my elite privilege visa is processed. I would really like to avoid a flight back to the USA I don't have vaccines, I had covid 2 times before vaccines were a thing didn't really think to get multiple vaccines.. so can I still just in - and - out Malaysia?
  6. Only the beef is expensive. Use a delivery app and the deals are insane, like 79 baht for a sandwich fries drink and 4 nuggets
  7. Yes, years. I don't want to rely on border runs anymore. BUT if it's relatively easy to travel to a Thai embassy and get some kind of visa which can convert into an education, I would do that. Way cheaper and it's good for a year or more with extension
  8. Ok new idea: what about the elite visa? Can I get that without leaving Thailand? I knows it's expensive as Sin, but it's worth it to me because the #1 anxiety I have in my life is being deported. I'm going to run this all by an agent of course, chimed in to see if anyone has had any familiarity with the elite visa
  9. 1) can I extend my covid visa until November 20 or so? I'm stamped until September 21, and I was just at Laksi last week. 2) What steps do I need to take to acquire an education Visa? ("Leave country, go to embassy, get (X) immigrant visa? What's the procedure here?) Also I spoke to an agent, and they told me that the volunteer visa is basically kaput, and very expensive @ 150k THB ???? So what is my option as a young expat? Nope, I can't get a work permit otherwise I would. I'm not working in Thailand, I have a fixed income, a combination of family inheritance and passive income generation from safe-pick Stocks.. I'm not interested in the work permit, because I'm not working. Sooo now what's the procedure?
  10. Can I get another covid extension? I'm stamped until September 21. Can I get stamped for 60 more days? (If I go myself to immigration; the agency told me it was all I could get, and they probably wanted me to spend like 5k with them to get it)
  11. I asked a place that was in Pattaya, and told them I was in Bangkok. i sent photos of my USA passport and that it has been kept up to date with COVID VISA renewals, never over-stay they didn’t state a reason why I couldn’t get one. Maybe it was because I am in Bangkok and I’m asking a place in Pattaya that works with local Farrang schools? So any Thai visa experts wanna inform me what’s up?
  12. I have a condo and can provide proof of residency etc. Anyone use a good visa agent in Bangkok?
  13. Alcoholics Anonymous says your willpower is useless in quitting drinking. Stay away from it. You need a medical professional to assess you and develop a plan of action.
  14. Lak-Si immigration today. The last step of the covid extension, the one where you take a photo and wait for your passport to return, when I went up to this desk where it had a lady I remember, dealt with before. She mentioned something about needing a flight out of here after 60 days. Wasn’t hostile about it but she made me add on my form under “reason for extension” something about finding a flight. Didn’t need to show a flight or anything, and got the under consideration stamp. Is it just this one Lady? Does what she say have any bearing whatsoever until an official announcement regarding the future of the Covid visa scheme has been made? Do they mark something in your passport if some Immigration officer thought you should stop getting more covid visas? Maybe She knows the Covid Visa program will come to an end after the deadline, who knows. Guess I will have my answer in a few days after the current deadline runs out.
  15. Umm 3000-4000 a night? For that kind of money you could get a 1500 per night and get a luxurious western style breakfast delivered in the morning and still have a lot left over..
  16. I like living here, but there are so many things here that aggravating and just plain backwards, that they can barely be considered “cultural” but rather just a massive lack of common sense: - Vehicles literally never yield to pedestrians, ever. You can be crossing a crosswalk and a car will come zooming up, blocking your path and nearly hitting you. Not cultural, just a lack of brains and common sense. - 7/11 stores that have ‘Slurpee’ machines that are out of order, 24/7. Not an exaggeration. I guess playing on your phone and scolding customers who come in and don’t immediately check their temperature on those stupid machines is more Important. - Not making any kind of accommodation for anything, whatsoever. Example: substituting something for something else at a restaurant, requesting a retail store to hold an item for you for only a couple hours, or having a food delivery arrive at a certain exact time (always early, usually by 20+ minutes) - Breathtaking lack of safety standards and common sense. Example: I have never seen a “road work ahead” sign or even a symbol representing that idea. Another:, a cleaning lady at my gym will just mop the floor constantly, a hardwood floor, without even considering that a wet floor can cause someone to slip and fall. The concept is foreign to them. There is no signage either that says caution Wet floor, ever. Imagine you are on the exercise bike and get off and the entire floor is covered in soapy water, and everyone working there just thinks that’s fine. Why even mop the floor while people are working out? Can’t wait until later? I guess if you slip and fall on a slippery floor, it was your fault because “if you weren’t in the country it wouldn’t have happened.” Stuff like this is why the stereotype of “life is cheap” in various places exists. They just don’t aspire to anything greater than merely existing and doing the bare minimum of merely existing. There is zero care or motivation, and almost zero consideration. I would call it laziness, but “laziness” implies that they are capable of doing better, but choose not to. They aren’t capable of doing better, this is just normal for them. It’s normal to almost smash into a pedestrian in a crosswalk. It’s normal to leave a machine at your work broken forever. It’s normal to create environmental hazards without even so much as a sign to warn others of it. It’s honestly aggravating, and the worst part is if you point it out or try to challenge, YOU get labeled the A hole!
