Tips as pay aren't like they are in the US. Waitresses and waiters get a very small salary and expect tips to compensate. Here they get paid the usual 200-300 baht a day like most other jobs countrywide and tips are extras. Employers in the states get away with this low salary and it's plain wrong. They should get minimum wage at least. Tips paid are for good service.

They haven't handed out the programs yet

I know, but just like people who race past you or cut you off, sometimes they have a valid reason to be angry. Nothing to do with you. You were just in the line of fire that day. If it continues to happen, best to just find another place to eat. Not worth the headache.
-
That's the crux of it all. Waitresses and waiters get a lot of crapola from some customers and many don't leave tips. She might have had a bad experience before you arrived at the restaurant, either by a customer, her boyfriend, husband, mom or whoever. If it happens again the same way, you might see more. I'm guessing this woman never waited on you before as you didn't say this. Just that the service was bad. If it's her then you can try to avoid her station if she has one. If the rest of the workers give you the cold shoulder, and it isn't because you did anything harsh previously, then it's like a communicable disease. Someone tells someone that a farang treated them bad, and they look for this in others, the word gets spread around, and soon the whole place doesn't like farangs besides the cash they spend. Like how all farangs are rich got started. One dopey farang gave his wife a lot of money, not knowing where he got it or how, and she brags to others how much she has. Soon the word gets spread around that we all have a lot of cash to burn, and they all want one. When they see a normal farang with more money than they have, but is frugal and doesn't throw it around, they think he's cheap. The only way locals really know how the western people live, is to spend a lot of time in their countries.

Bringing dog to Thailand for 3-6 months

That's good in your case, but it happens here daily that children are allowed to drive motor vehicles, and daily kids die because they can't avoid a dangerous situation from a lack of road knowledge and skills. Teaching a child while young isn't a bad idea, but not on the roads others use. A farm is quite different. Children still die every year on 4 wheelers that roll over on them.
-
Yes, it does happen but there is a much better chance of worse injury or death without wearing a seat belt. Staying in the car is one reason should the car roll over a time or two. If a car goes off a pier and you aren't wearing a belt, you could be thrown into the interior and knocked out, which would ensure drowning.

Thai mum’s advice on handling bullying praised by parents online
fredwiggy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Admitting it is fine, especially if you understand it was wrong. Saying it makes you hard is wrong. I was picked on by that same bully, and I wanted to hurt him for a long time. I got into weight training after high school and saw him years later when I was buff. Just looked at me and smiled and I said hey. It didn't matter much anymore although I did daydream about finishing him off a lot afterwards. I knew why he did it and he never got over it because of the way he treated his wife later. I myself, along with a friend, used to run after a boy who couldn't walk well and pushed him down. We stopped, but it bothered me for a long time after what we did. -
I'm 67 so I don't know. I'm just sick of seeing young children die on the roads, especially here a daily occurrence, because parents let them. There are alternatives to teaching a child how to handle a motorcycle progressively. An 80 cc isn't a slow bike and things can go wrong fast with an 8 year old.

Thai mum’s advice on handling bullying praised by parents online

Pretty much what I'm teaching my 7 year old now. Teachers many tines won't do anything when this happens, especially here where many still carry sticks themselves to whack the kids when they are out of line, as my daughter's teacher did in front of me last week to three students she was teaching in front of her desk. -

Bullying is done by those that are being bullied at home. A child learns that violence is the answer if they do something wrong, and thinks they can do the same things to others. Abuse is illegal and needs to be stopped immediately. It doesn't "harden" up people but make them have low self esteem, anger kept inside out of fear of retaliation, and many take their own lives because of this, as it causes depression and anxiety. A bully needs to be stopped as soon as possible and taught other ways to vent his or her anger. I know a bully from high school who picked on many people. He later got married and abused his wife. This person ran over cats with a lawnmower when he was living at home. Obviously something was going wrong in his family. Bullies many times end up dead or in prison because no one taught them a better way. It doesn't start out as their fault but they will be held responsible eventually. Standing up to a bully is what needs to be done, although many are afraid. Others have helped many who are being bullied, standing by their side, and this also needs to be done. Bullies back off when they are confronted. They live on fear. -
Then, as now, irresponsible, non caring parents who haven't a clue. There are reasons why children aren't legally allowed to drive motorbikes. Immaturity, inability to react to dangerous situations like an older driver can. inability to understand consequences of speeding and driving near other motor vehicles also going fast and maybe weighing 2 tons more.

half-Thai child moving to Thailand with Thai mom
fredwiggy replied to JimmyB81's topic in Family and Children
Stupidfarang's advice is spot on. You've said you can't trust here but also said she promised to give the house to your child. It would be much better having the child, especially if it's a daughter, to grow up in the UK. This country looks at women as inferior, and that's how a daughter will be treated by the boys here. A smart judge in the UK will already know what's in store for the child in Thailand. A daughter really needs a father more than a mother if there's a decision to be made. She will learn from him how a woman is supposed to be treated, if you're a good man that way. He can protect here a lot better than her mom could. Also a boy cannot learn to be a man from a mother unless there's a good male role model around, and that's not something you'll easily find here. Many men don't want the job of being a step parent, and a girls own father is the best choice. Fight for the child, give her the Thai house. She can have visitation in the UK. The child can decide what she wants to do later in life, but an education in the UK is miles above whet they would get here. -
Motorcycle taxi drivers brutally beating tourist caught on video

You can't guess how many of any country's people do anything because you only know a few personally. What you see on TV isn't an exact representation of the people. I've heard many different nationalities use the F bomb, including the word for it here, many times. We all learned it from friends way back when it was never used on TV. Most everyone I know swears at least some of the time, even if they aren't prone to doing it much. -

There's also no excuse for ganging up 3 against 1 besides cowardice, weakness and inability to fight fairly, which happens here daily and has for decades. One time this will happen to the wrong foreigner, and he will annihilate whoever tries this against him. The problem there is that when it does, he will be blamed for trashing three locals who tried to gang up against him, and labeled a thug himself. No matter what started this situation, you don't gang up 3 against 1 unless it's to prevent harm to a child or innocent woman, and then its to subdue, and not kick someone in the head when he's already down. -

That uncivilized world you call Americans, no matter what some might say, are the reason you are living in a world that's mostly free. If it weren't for us (them), Japan, England, and Germany would be ruling the world, along with what the terrorists have been doing for decades and being stopped. Americans, by and large, are people from all other countries, or at least their ancestors are. This includes where you come from. -
Trump Rally Shooting Alarms Ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra

Staged meaning a setup. This man was allowed with a gun to get that close. A counter sniper waited to shoot until after the shooter shot. A counter sniper would have taken out the shooter as soon as he saw him with a rifle that close to the ex president. The shooter came as close as you could without connecting on a fatal shot, meaning his shot was just a tad off and intentional. Lee Harvey Oswald was a setup from all we can see, and eliminated very soon before he could talk. This seems like the same kind of situation. I'm thinking this won't be the last.- 74 replies

British-Thai couple ‘paws’ to save puppy from restaurant abuse
fredwiggy replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Imagine if it wasn't being done. It just needs to be funded by the government and stepped up all over Thailand. The lack of concern I see for animals also shows in the same for it's women and children here, and that's a real problem. There is no other valid way to control an animals population growth besides hunting and fixing. Dogs being domestic aren't hunted, and only a weirdo eats domestic animals. Yes, some animals are domesticated. Some aren't meant to be. True that many other animals could also be domesticated but it's not easy having a cow, deer species,, bull, chickens, ducks, geese, any game birds, etc living in your home, and they were put here to be eaten. Dogs weren't. God knows the reasons animals are here, as well as many of us humans. Rabbits can also be pets and eaten of course, so that's a valid argument, and I like eating rabbit, as does millions of other people. -

I subtly try to teach him what he's doing is wrong, and lead by example. My girlfriend's house has 7 cats that call it home, though stay mostly outside. One had a litter where three out of four died from something. The last one he pinches and he looks at me to see me frowning. Think it's a game to him, but I really can't do much else than what I already do. This kitten attacks everything, more so than I've ever seen a kitten do at it's age. It's because he's teaching it aggression, which they learn naturally anyway, against other cats. They aren't supposed to be scratching and biting people, and I'm trying to show this kitten the other side. Her son sees how the cats come to me every time I visit there, like to sit in my lap, and aren't afraid of me like they are him, so that's a learning tool. He never had a dad in his life so he doesn't know what to expect besides what he sees me do and how I treat his mom. he learns from other stupid children who also abuse animals, as I've seen two myself who do the same things when they visit. One main reason I'm trying to get this across to him , along with treating his mom well, is that if he continues to abuse animals and use control over them, he will do this in his relationships with women, and it could get him arrested. -

Yes, this is a problem worldwide. My point was that animals here aren't loved like they are in western countries by more than a few. Animals will breed anywhere they aren't neutered of spayed. The same thing happens with deer, which are out of control in urban areas because hunting seasons are stopped by ignorant people who don't understand carrying capacity and what happens when animals are left to over populate their habitat. People are irresponsible. -

Soi dogs are owner less dogs. There are many here and I mentioned the only way to reduce their populations, as have others before. These dogs around my house aren't soi dogs but owned dogs that aren't loved. If a dog bites someone the owner will probably not come forward unless ownership can be proven. Such is life here. How is feeding a dog that's already here a problem? Better they get food from people like me than stealing it from other's homes or tearing through trash to eat. -

This isn't Korea or Vietnam where a lot of them eat domestic animals, but it does happen with some of the old school thinkers. I have lost cats, dogs, ducks and chickens to people who looked at anything roaming as food. There is an attitude here that I come first and no one else matters, as long as I can eat. No conservation as far as fish are concerned, and any animals that are roaming are fair game. This is why you don't see any deer, very few squirrels and nothing else like you do in other countries that have laws that are enforced as far as wildlife are concerned. It does happen in the national parks, although some do poach animals there also. -

Did I say these were soi dogs? Most of, if not all of them were other's dogs that liked to come to my house because I was nice to them, and gave them a little food. This had them returning. Other dogs in our village were also poisoned, which means this nutcase lives here and doesn't like dogs, and has to kill them to feed his sick control personality. These dogs only go after other dogs when they are trying to mate. I've never seen any here act aggressive against people. Feeding these dogs is a nice thing to do, because sometimes they aren't being fed anywhere else. What is making the dog problem worse here is locals, and their lack of care for dogs after they change from the puppy stage. Neutering and spaying is the only way to reduce the population because not many actually care besides those that are doing the fixing, and those that are feeding the animals that are already here. -

I've had at least 9 dogs "find" a home at my house here in the country. It seems I'm the only one who actually pets them. You can see this in the fear in their eyes when you try to approach them. Eventually they get close if you feed them enough times. Sadly, most of the dogs that have looked at my house as a home away from "home" have been poisoned by some disturbed farmer who didn't like them running around their fields.
