Doing things to challenge yourself
The first part of his post was him talking about what he did himself. The second I already posted but will post again seeing you aren't understanding what he said.................... "Are you a stagnant old man or achieving challenges? Place yourself into challenges as you get older instead of doing nothing ! Please I would love to hear from you guys who climb mountains ,do very long bike rides ,cycle races long distance, etc".............................Now, read this again and see that he doesn't say anything about anyone else taking any chances that are dangerous, like he did walking in Manila at night near a subway. He wants others to tell how they challenged themselves, by bike rides, cycle races, long distance etc, nothing about risking your life in any way. Placing yourself into challenges means challenging yourself to do things you've either never done or haven\t yet accomplished. Understand now?

Doing things to challenge yourself
Many times and never saw any trouble, although it did happen almost daily, and more now than before. Many people think living in the US with all it's "gun violence", is a hrd thing, but I lived there from birth to 62 and never saw much of anything, and I was outside walking, driving and living near major cities all that time. But taking a chance walking late at night by yourself in any major city now is playing Russian roulette.

I'm sure she means tendon strength, which can be increased by plyometric, eccentric and isometric training.

Doing things to challenge yourself
Yes, to challenge yourself, not to put yourself in harms way, like he did. What he did wasn't too smart. I lived in New Jersey, and worked in and visited NYC many times, as my parents were from Brooklyn, and every time I was there, I made sure I stayed in well lit areas and was never alone. This was back in the 70's to 80's. Now I would be even more careful.

I only wish I didn't train so heavy when I was younger. I combined bodybuilding with power lifting because I liked the heavy weights, but they always do the most damage whereas most bodybuilders don't use very heavy weights but lighter ones and use steroids to gain mass. Your joints are the weak link and can't take too much before you damage them. This is why many top power lifters can't walk well when they get older, and why I have some trouble some days doing the same. I didn't do the drugs but did do the heaviness.

No, understanding it means just that. Try reading his post again, word for word, and you will see he says nothing about telling others to put themselves in any danger. Is English your natural language? It's mine.

Doing things to challenge yourself
Much of the damage done to rotator cuffs comes from doing lat pulldowns behind the neck. Anything you do to pull puts a strain on the shoulder joints. The rotator cuffs are muscles that support the shoulder joint. The primary joints involved in a pullup are the shoulder and elbow joints, so if you have any damage to the rotator cuffs, like I do, pullups are to be done very carefully if at all. At the end of the bottom part of a pullup is where the shoulder is under strain, and I always do things in full range of motion. I tore both of mine doing exercises with too heavy weights for too long. I was told by the doctor I shouldn't work out anymore but being in the game , now for 50 years, and this happening when I was around 50, I knew not to listen to him because no one knows your body like you do, and I was into training others for almost 20 years myself, and know that not exercising means atrophy, which means the joints have no stabilization.

As many age, they get fatter, which makes it harder for them to pull up their own body weight. If you stay slim, you will lose strength as you age, but will still be able to do pullups if you exercise regularly. I used to be able to do over 20, but lifting very heavy weights over 50 years hurt my rotator cuffs. I can still do pulldowns with around 170 lbs, which is my body weight, sets of 10, but I really don't want to try pullups in the regular manner because they might hurt my shoulder joints.

I read and understand all posts thank you. Nowhere did he say for others to do what he did, but to challenge themselves.

Doing things to challenge yourself
There are many people who will never be able to do 30 pushups but are in excellent health. Most of health involves a good diet plan, and regular exercise. There are millions of walkers out there who have no health problems internally and live long lives. many in the blue zones just keep active and live to over 100. I did mention other things you can do to challenge yourself. many just involve health because they are physical.

Doing things to challenge yourself
To challenge yourself to do things you haven't before, to grow. Not to put yourself, like he did, in a possibly dangerous situation just to see if you make it through.

Doing things to challenge yourself
This was his question, and it didn't have anything to do with putting anyone in danger.................. Are you a stagnant old man or achieving challenges? Place yourself into challenges as you get older instead of doing nothing ! Please I would love to hear from you guys who climb mountains ,do very long bike rides ,cycle races long distance, etc

Doing things to challenge yourself
Anything you do you haven't yet done before is a challenge. I mentioned physical because they are among the many things that are challenging, especially to those that haven't been physical. If you can't do 10 pushups, then 15 is a challenge, then 20, 30 and so on. I rarely trained in a cardiovascular way, preferring weights and martial arts, but my resting pulse is still 58, and blood pressure is usually 154/60, and blood sugar around 88, because my diet was always very healthy. That's another challenge. eating healthier than you have before. Giving up cigarettes, excessive drinking, drugs. What is a challenge to you is just to you. Everyone is coming from a different place, and there are many challenges you can do, both for health and self esteem. As far as walking down any dark street late at night, in a big city, that's plain stupid, and could cost you your life. It might be a challenge over fear, but there are many cowards worldwide just looking to prey on people walking alone, and even if you're Chuck Norris, you can't fight a gun.

Doing things to challenge yourself
Putting yourself in harm's way by staying out late walking the streets in cities isn't challenging yourself but looking to end your life. Anyone with a weapon that's looking for money, jewelry or just to hurt someone can end your days here, and they don't need to be a strong, muscular person to do it, as a trigger pull takes only a few pounds and a knife or machete only a swing while you aren't looking. Challenging yourself is taking up new sports or exercises that will help you in the long run. Many do extreme sports because they like the thrill, but some of these are plain dangerous if you fail. Doing anything you have never done before is a challenge, and it doesn't have to endanger your life to improve your outlook.

He's actually not that off. If you can do 40 pushups, you're considered fit. This is a first set. Most people aren't workout types and if they haven't taken care of themselves over the years, any kind of training is hard, especially just starting so late.

Let's talk about depression
A doctor is only a go-between towards help. They can prescribe meds that can help with your depression, but need to be there with followups regularly to see if it's the right medicine and if it's helping, as the wrong one can make things worse or not do anything. If they are good, they will talk to you using psychotherapy, to get you to let your negative feelings out, which helps a lot of people, especially those with depression. A good doctor will also tell you to have a healthy lifestyle, as a bad one will hurt your depression symptoms. It isn't just western doctors but most that will do what's available now, as that is all they have to treat depression now. The brain is an extremely complicated place, which runs on chemicals and food to work properly. When something's in short supply, all you can do now is try and replace what's missing with medicines and psychotherapy so you can have a better life. As far as social media influencers taking their own lives, they are joined by many who use anything to feel better. Sex, drugs, alcohol, comedy, reckless buying, risk taking, excess sleep and others to escape their pain. My best friend had everything he needed to have a happy, full life, but it was never enough to escape the inside dark clouds he had most of his life, so he took the only way out he knew at that time, back in 1987, before more was known about treatments for depression.

Let's talk about depression
Everyone gets depressed at times, but clinical depression is a permanent (at least for now) thing. Environmental depression comes from living in an unstable, abusive, neglective or absent parent environment. Words, especially done continuously, over time, can hurt and make a permanent mark on one's thinking. I don't think most parents are bad parents, but just uneducated or absent. Of course, most if not all of today's world problems are created at home, and most world leaders are narcissists because they were either abused, neglected or spoiled when children. Some parents are doing the same things to their children they learned as children, and many of these things are wrong, but it's all they know. The most important years of a child's life are 0 to 5, and if these years are spent in turmoil, that's what they'll bring into their adult lives, unless they understand what went wrong, and do what they need to understand what normal means. There is also seasonal depression, SAD, when people spend a lot of time in an environment without sunshine, trapped indoors under ultraviolet light. This passes when the outdoor weather improves, and is usually limited to cold northern climates. Clinical depression is a permanent thing, and needs treatment, which usually involves talk therapy and some medication to help with symptoms. They don't cure the depression but make it easier to cope with bad or negative moods, anger and lost feelings. It is all we have now to help people who are suffering. Lifestyle changes, exercise, healthy diet, removing yourself from a toxic environment, supplements, supportive friends and family, steady job, pets, all can help a person with depression but aren't cures.

PEA bill higher than ever in 6 years
I haven't talked to them yet. The bill should be lower in any event, by units used.

PEA bill higher than ever in 6 years
My point was yes, the AC usage increased to keep up with the heat, although I only used it after dark until 5 AM the next morning, as usual, and I didn't use the pump to water the grass but two times , instead of around 18 or so a month like usual, and I was not home 9 days last month, which altogether should have reduced my power consumption. It did say it increased 61 units, which should have cost 285 baht, which would have made the bill around 1785 and not 2000, so something is wrong somewhere.

Meaning they are measured the same, units used, power consumption.

PEA bill higher than ever in 6 years
Of course PEA gave me a bill, just like all the bills for the last 6 plus years. Electric bills go up a lot, and many people wonder why. You actually trust an electric company to be totally honest? Bills for electricity are based in Texas as they are here. Mine and a few others in my neighborhood's bill rose a few times when the usage was the same as the months before. Their explanation was they had to pay more from where they got their electricity. This does not explain why just a few people I talked to had bills that were higher with the same usage and others did not rise. Like I said. I did not water my grass but two times last month. I usually water it every other day, using my pump. I did not have to refill my water tank as much also, using less electricity. My lawn is very large and includes trees. The heat was higher last month than usual, so I did use more AC, but with less pump usage and the fact I wasn't home for 9 days, the bill should have been much the same as the month before, or even less. Not 500 baht more. Like I also said, I will go to PEA and compare the last few months bills for usage and see what they say, but again, I don't think I'll get the answer I expect. Electric companies are a business, and as many businesses worldwide, they are out to make money, and some aren't honest when they do business, especially when it involves thousands of people. Texas didn't have a legitimate explanation to answer why our bills went up when they should have matched others in our area, especially when ours and their usage was about the same. There was two I remember who's bills went up over a hundred dollars, and one wasn't home that month. The other said his usage was much the same as before. The one who wasn't home had his bill lowered, and they didn't explain what happened. The other's bill wasn't changed, which also shows things aren't just rotten in Denmark. Meters can and do malfunction, so that's another thing I'll have checked. A few of my neighbors back home had the same problem, and sometimes it was the meter, which was switched. They got a refund also. The bill said I used 61 more units this month than the last month's bill, which means my bill should have increased about 285 baht. What I do find strange, is that most of your posts are ones that stick up for anything Thai, and what I think you don't understand, is that this country is more corrupt than most others worldwide, which means it entails money being made any which way, because a poor country has this happening for many reasons, one of which is plain greed.

PEA bill higher than ever in 6 years
I didn't suggest anything. I saw my bills in Texas rise for no reasons they gave except they had to pay more for electricity themselves, which they could exaggerate. If a company wanted to screw you, they could make a lot of money on everyone and no one would be the wiser. I don't know what others in the village are paying besides my next door neighbor, who is a relative of sorts, and my ex's mom's house.

PEA bill higher than ever in 6 years
Meter is down the street about 300 meters. I use one AC unit, only when I'm sleeping. The same lifestyle all 6 years. This is why I said the bill has never been higher than 1500, and that's been only once in 6 years. It's usually from 500-1200, mean about 800. I only use a fan while watching TV, and that's been unchanged also. No other big electric users besides fridge. It jumped 500 baht from last month's bill, which was 1500. This year has been hotter on average but still the bill did not rise that much until this last month, and I wasn't home at least 9 days and did not water but two times, unlike every other day. I wasn't here that whole month of November last year and it still was over 1000 baht so something is off. Looking at my usual usage over the years it looks like something is off certain times, and this happened a few times wen I lived in Texas, and they always had an excuse for it, while some others bills didn't rise in the same neighborhood those times (friends). My next door neighbor's bill has changed very little over this time. They don't have AC, only fans, kids, TV, etc, and their bills are usually around the same, so this is about my house, and it isn't happening all the time, which leaves out some monthly ghost draw. I'm going to talk to PEA, but this will probably go nowhere, as do most things involving foreigner's complaints here. This is why I'm asking others to see if their bills these last two months have been very high.

PEA bill higher than ever in 6 years
My PEA bill usually fluctuates from around 500 to 1500, which was last month and was the highest ever in 6 years. I've been thinking my bills haven't been right for a long time, just like back in Texas, where they rose very high with no more usage a few times, and it was the meter that was wrong or something else I never figured out. This month it was almost 2000 baht. I usually water my grass from my well, from a water tank I fill up. This past month I only watered two times, and wasn't home at least 9 days that month, meaning the only usage was my refrigerator those 9 days. When I left to visit the states last November, nothing was used besides that refrigerator and the bill was still over 1000 baht, which is impossible because I wasn't home for over 30 days. I'm the only farang in our village and my bill is always higher than anyone else's, but this time I know there's something wrong, as I water my grass every other day when it's not raining, and my bill was never over 1500 baht. Now , with only those 2 watering days, using my pump, it's almost 2000 baht, so, even though it was a little hotter than normal, it's still never been higher than that 1500 baht, and usually around 1200 a month. Anyone else's bill from PEA last month go up that 500 baht or more?
