Heavily Injured Foreign Man Found Near Pattaya’s Walking Street, Police Investigate
The same with American TV, where they were always shown drinking in many shows. It was considered normal to have cocktails before eating but you didn't see the end results. Many of these actors themselves had major trouble after a lifetime of drinking. It wasn't just the poor that were getting drunk but the rich also, going home, abusing their partners, having accidents driving, hurting their family at home with aggression and losing jobs. I still remember the Marlboro Man, from cigarette commercials where advertising was allowed, much the same way about beer commercials during sports games.

Heavily Injured Foreign Man Found Near Pattaya’s Walking Street, Police Investigate
I believe he was comparing alcohol to weed, and there is no comparison. Weed hasn't caused the deaths, addictions, rehabs and loss of homes and families like alcohol has. I have seen countless people on the ground, passed out drunk and in accidents because of alcohol and not one because of weed. It does slow you down but that happens because they smoke too much at one time and usually fall asleep. I smoked weed and never fell down. I did after drinking lose balance a few times.

Part of that problem is children seeing their parents drink to excess. Another is absent parenting. Also, children look to their peers for guidance, not understanding it should be their parents (if available) instead of other clueless children. They experiment, not knowing that many of them will become addicted to things like alcohol and or drugs, because their brains, not yet developed, take in these drugs and addiction can start in many. People like to drink to escape life, at least for awhile. It lowers their inhibitions, makes them more sociable, but also creates problems, the least of which is driving after drinking, which of course kills thousands every year. The education starts at home, and if it's not there, it occurs on the streets.

If Living in Texas instead of Thailand: I would own guns...Big guns.
I really don't think it matters much who shoots you, it still ends the same way. You don't know much about Mexican cuisine if you think it's just about beans. That's a staple, like rice is for Thais, but only part of the whole meal. I have a lot of Mexican friends, and they are good people, and I've shared many a meal with them. You really don't need a firearm no matter where you live, besides a few African nations and a few in the Middle East. People break into homes in every country, including here, especially because it's a poor country, which means a lot of theft. You are a lot more likely to be shot here because of the reasons many carry handguns, than you are in the US, unless you join a gang. We can see you're prejudiced against Latinos, and that's your deal. For what reasons I can't see. And we all thought you were going to move to Japan and marry a genius Japanese woman, so I'm guessing you couldn't find one that would have you so are staying here, where you're a lot more likely to find a woman, albeit for money.

I don't understand how you hate guns as you had certain guns that only a hunter would have. I always wanted a Weatherby and will get one eventually.I owned guns for hunting, and only target shot to sight them in. I sold hundreds of guns working for Academy Outdoors, met thousands of gun owners, and lived in the US for 62 years, and never saw any gun violence. I feel a thousand fold safer living there than here, where many illegally own guns and shoot people just because they're a little pissed off. People don't do this in the US only rarely. Gangs and suicides are most of gun violence. If you want the safest place to live in the US, choose New England states, in the country areas, but prepare for being cold a lot. Anyone in their right mind locks their doors at night. Theft is rampant here in Thailand, and people care little to nothing about their neighbors. I might get a handgun to carry in Texas when I move back there, because <deleted> does happen, although there was never a time when I needed one living there 32 years. And buying body armor is the epitome of paranoia.

Most gun crime in the US involves gangs and suicides. Mass shootings make it look the way you posted, but it's still a tiny percentage of gun crimes.

Thai tuk tuk driver fails to help Vietnamese woman after fatal fall
I rarely if ever see them use rear view mirrors, so that would explain a lot.

What can/should be done about the yaba crisis in Thailand?
For many it happens that way, but not always. I came from a good home but all my friends smoked weed and did other drugs, so I tried it to fit in. I was, am, into working out and do not have an addictive personality so it was just a thing I did occasionally, preferring health over getting high all the time. Some of my friends got addicted to crack when it came around, and one was really into it. Having absent or non caring parents has a child looking more to his or her peers for what to do in life, just as it does for kids having sex too young or not protected. A child having at least one parent they can talk to helps a child know who to trust, and who will deal them straight.

What can/should be done about the yaba crisis in Thailand?
And causes damage to the central nervous system. Look up pictures of meth users. This isn't like doing a couple of lines of coke and dancing the night away, although that also leads to addiction in many. People , some, get addicted easy because of their personality. Some people should never touch any drugs, and that's not to say others should.
-
What can/should be done about the yaba crisis in Thailand?
You're talking about alcohol abuse. You can drink a glass of wine or beer every day and it won't cause much if any damage. Taking methamphetamine once can get you hooked, and all amounts cause damage. Millions of people drink and don't have troubles like you mentioned. Yaba or any other speed like drug makes a person irritable, defensive, impulsive and anger makes them do things they wouldn't normally do, even with one use.
-
What can/should be done about the yaba crisis in Thailand?
It's methamphetamine and caffeine combined. Highly addictive and damages the nervous system.
-
What can/should be done about the yaba crisis in Thailand?
You're actually comparing weed to yaba? Weed doesn't cause anywhere near the system damage that yaba, meth, heroin or crack does. Legalizing weed will only do what weed does. Calm people, make them feel happy, make money for the government, help with some diseases, including pain. Legalizing yaba will make millions more zombies that are into a drug they might not kick.

Intoxicated American Arrested after Damaging Sedan Window with a Rock in Wichit
Over reacted for sure but when someone encroaches on someone walking across a street that close, a lot take it seriously. I see it happen all the time here where pedestrians don't seem to have the right of way as they do in the US. I've had to quicken my pace to avoid getting hit many times., and most times in a store parking lot where kids walk. That's a punishable offense back home, and I'm sure this guy felt threatened, although he didn't have to do anything besides raise his arm and say watch it.

When I'm at my girlfriends we watch the news a lot, and she describes what is happening when I don't understand. Some crimes , being visual, you understand what's happening. Most people here will never know 99% of what goes on daily because the news stations don't get but a tiny percentage of the crimes that are happening, just as everywhere else.

Might want to research before you reply. Not to be harsh by any means, but a lot of people know very little of what goes on there besides videos. If you get arrested and convicted, it's a crime, and on your record, unless you're a juvenile. Those records are usually sealed for non violent crimes. Paying a fine means prosecuting that crime.

Thailand ranks 44th in global crime index
It's always a crime to shoplift anywhere in the US. It's a misdemeanor under $950. You can get 6 months in jail, a $1000 fine or both. Any prior convictions the prosecutor can make it a felony charge. Like another has mentioned, butt the truth is a whole lot different than what people think goes on there.

Thailand ranks 44th in global crime index
Again, not living there you would only guess. People are arrested daily, all day long, all year long, for every crime imaginable. Depending on the severity of the crime, many will get probation. Doesn't mean they won't be arrested. Prisons are full but this doesn't mean punishment is lax. Those with a first offense usually get probation, supervised. Not let go with a 1000 baht fine with a wai. People guess all kinds of things about the US, without knowing much of anything besides what they see on the news.

Videos, which are usually posted by citizens, don't show anywhere near the real picture there. Crime is high yes,but also punishment. There is bail for most all offenses, and if you raise it, you're released, same as most anywhere. The difference here is the lack of enforcement of many crimes, and the weak punishment, as we've seen all along. People who don't live in the US don't know the whole picture and only go by a few news clippings and those videos.

Diabetes Epedemic
I questioned that when I came here and saw my ex mother in law just getting daily shots without being checked but once a month.

Diabetes Epedemic
Type 1. Mother in law 1, ex wife 2, brother was 1.

Diabetes Epedemic
Diabetics can be lean and small. My son has it at 35, and always took care of himself and still does. I taught all my children good eating habits since birth, yet he got it because it's in our family genes. My brother died from a heart attack at 67, my age now, brought on by being diabetic and not losing weight like he was told. He was always in shape until later when he spent too much time on his computer, loved to eat, mostly healthy but a lot. My ex, along with most of her family of 12, has it. Her mom has shots daily, and weighs maybe 80 pounds. My ex has it, and maybe weighs 115 at 5'4". My aunt died from it. I've eaten very lean all my life, still do, and worked out from age 17 till now. I took a blood sugar test last time I visited my family last November, and it was 88 twice, so it's not in me by that evidence. Thailand has a major problem in it's rice consumption, and the last couple decades it's risen, and a lot of this is because of the rice and the sugar drinks they consume. Rice is okay but not every meal, every day, especially if you're prone to diabetes, yet it's the country's staple food. Add to this the mama noodles, which are eaten like crazy as we all know. High carbs, high sugar,, eventually less exercise is a country with rising diabetes cases and obesity.
