1. My home is fast becoming a repository for dead computer equipment.

I've got 2 dead desktops and several defunct laptops that I want to dispose of properly. e.g. not incinerated or leaking toxins into the ground.

Is there a proper place to dispose of said laptops and computers?

Anyone know if I can take them to HP or Acer and they can recycle them??

    Thanks

  2. The lady I use for all my insurance needs, has helped provide my family with traveling health insurance on trips to the states before. (In patient only. e.g. Car wreck or some big trauma that will require a trip to the ER. Not a cold)

If you are interested let me know and I will PM you her Details.

  3. There's a new thing out where you go down in a sort of 2 man bubble. Just your upper half is out of the water. My Thai friend works there. I can find out more if you want

Sounds cool Dan, I want to know more.

  4. Thanks jhs for the link that solved my problem

For others that want to use their Nexus One on AIS the APN info is as follows; using jhs's format

    1. Go into the Settings app

    2. Tap: Wireless & networks

    3. Tap: Mobile networks

    4. Tap: Access Point Names

    5. Press the Menu soft-button and tap "New APN"

    1. I set the Name to:
    AIS

    2. Set the APN to:
    ais

    3. No other configuration is required

    6. Tap the Menu soft-button and tap Save

    7. Tap the newly-created radio button and make sure it is active (green)

  5. Here is the correct proceedure:

First ..Attach one end of one cable to the dead battery's positive terminal.

Second..Attach the other end of the same cable to the positive terminal of the battery in the jumper vehicle.

Third...Attach one end of the other cable to the negative terminal of the battery in the jumper vehicle.

Forth... Attach the other end of the negative cable to the engine block of the car with the dead battery. Look for unpainted metal surfaces and be sure it will clear anything moving when the car starts. Do not attach the negative cable to the dead battery itself.

Doing in this sequence will prevent sparking and reduce the risk of explosion...it will not prevent possible computer damage.

I've always just done it to the battery and not the engine block or frame. It's always worked for me just fine. Am, I doing it wrong, or risking my car or his??

  6. what is your Blackberry Model #?

As a general rule the phones sold out here are unlocked.

Having a SIM card means that your mobile is a GSM standard Phone, meaning that if you go back to the states you have only 2 options for cell coverage AT&T or T-Mobile (Verision and Sprint use the CDMA standard)

for a quick cheep test to see if your phone is unlocked, barrow a friends SIM card from a different service provider, slap it into your phone and see if it works.

If it doesn't, there's loads of phone shops that offer 'un-locking' services.

I've taken my phone to the states and used both AT&T and T-mobile's services they both work fine, I just walked into a store and said I wanted to get a pre-paid SIM Card and compared to see who gave me the better offer RE Time/money

  7. I went to Singapore to see it in 3D, TRULY AWESOME!

I feel the film/story will stand up in 2D as well. It is one made for the big screen and if 3D is not an option for you then go see it in 2D.

I'm going to go see it again at Central and tell you what I think 3D Vs 2D.

    I really liked the film.

  8. I got a small fish tank once for the daughter and the man in the fish shop told me to ONLY fill up the tank with the big white bottles of water and NOT to use the tap.

Man fish are tough to take care of, you look at them funny and they die. The most hardy one was the sucker fish and when he passed, out living 4 generations of other fish, we retired the tank.

  9. Projector.. Had a 120 inch width in the last place, was actually a bit too big for the viewing distance but it framed it well on the wall.

The issue of Phuket cinemas not going digital has other effects (beyond scratched prints, piss poor projectionists, and other cinephile issues) but the rapid evolution of 3D cinema.

This winter there will be the release of James Camerons decade in the making 3d extravaganza mixing photorealistic comp imagery and live action. Lots of hype already and talk that this will be a game changer in cinema and that 3d of this level will be like the introduction of talkies or color or (more realistically) the move to cinemascope to keep people in cinema houses and differentiate between home viewing and 'move experience'. These days when anyone with a couple of grand can drop a pretty effective high def projection system into a room there needs to be that added something to get you to the cinema (and the idiots, crowds, ringing phones !!).

While I do think Avatar will probably be hype of substance I intend to see it as the director intends, in 3D, even if I have to go to bangkok to do so.

Right on!!! I want HD, I want clarity, I want 3D I went to a tiny 40 seat theater in the states that had a better projection system (DLP) then SFX does in Phuket.

on top of all that I want them to screen their trailers before they show them, and place them with according movies.

Case in point 2 years ago when Ratatouille was out and I took my daughter to go see it. They played the most horrific blood soaked chopped organ fest I have ever seen, before playing a children's movie!!!!

and they did the same thing again just last month I took my daughter and 2 of her friends to see G-Force. The last trailer I expect to see before going into a kids movie is seeing a body hanging inverted on a road sign spread eagle and eviscerated. I had a lot of young eyes to cover and just 2 hands.

    Seriously F'ed up.

  10. suggestion: go to an AIS shop or Tele-Wiz (also AIS) show the girl behind the counter your text spam and she might be able to block it through the computer system or depending on your make and model of phone you might be able to black list it from your phone.

  11. All the shops will close, there's no free wifi in the airport.

You will be able to find seating (don't know how comfortable) and I'm pretty sure they won't turn the lights out on you. I also don't think you'll be bothered by anyone.

I know TV Member Simon43 runs an Airport Hotel just 200-500m away from the main gate of the Airport. Look him up and maybe he can help set you up for the night.

  12. I once had a group of "forestry officials" visit one of my construction sites once.

We invited them onto our property but we asked if we could photo copy their ID's first, not one of them could produce a Forestry Department ID let aloe any personal ID.... they never came back.

I think if you're paying some one you should be able to get a copy of their ID ...tell them it's just to make sure you're spelling their name correct :)
