  1. I'm looking for an ancient post of mine where I explain where the repo/used/abandoned motorbike place is.

If I can find it I'll post it.

I went there with a friend post-Tsunami to replace her bike that was a wash.

enter these coordinates into google maps and this is the building where we got the cheep bike. 7.909197, 98.377053

Don't know if they still do business there or not but worth checking it out.

    Might be this one http://www.thaivisa...._1#entry1345096

    yes that was the post

:offtopic2: I tried to do a search on the forum and came up empty, is there a way to search just your posts? (posts, boards and topics that you have participated in and not all the others?)

  2. I would not even bother to notify operator of stolen phone.

Purpose of notifying your operator of stolen phone is to block your SIM card from being used/charged to you and to obtain your same number again on a new SIM card. RE stolen Phone, they can't do anything about that here to my knowledge.

  4. A while back I remember there being something said about why Phuketwan does not want it's stories posted here ( @backstairs maybe why the topic disappeared)

I don't remember if it's because of TV's partnership with the Gazette or if it was just PhuketWan wanting to control it's own content.

I tried to do a search for the answer that was given before (I know i read it, but I cant remember where it was and what it said but I believe it was PhuketWan's decision not to be here)

Can some one find it or re-iterate why PhuketWan doesn't want it's stories on the TV Phuket Forum?

    EDIT:

  5. My mom gets her SS payments directly deposited into Bangkok bank in town.

The SS admin will not be able to direct deposit your check into any foreign acct.

The receiving acct must be within the US territorial, such as posted by several posters here.

Sure your mom was able to direct deposit into Bkk Bk in town as in Bkk?

Positive, there was a bunch of paper work and a month or 2 of waiting for it all to work out just right but it all worked out. She's been reviving her payments for the last 3-4 years there.

  6. TT&T/3BB is on to speedtest.net and is intercepting results and feeding back bogus figures.

A ping test/trace route at our local computer club down here in Phuket provided a response faster than the speed of light. !?!

seek an alternative testing site or try several and average your results. And always test to an of shore server ( I usually test to San Francisco) for real world server usage tests.

  7. This is so cool.

I have been a user of Team viewer for a while for maintaining and troubleshooting my father's computer form afar. Also for accessing my machine remotely.

and now I can do it on the go.

TeamViewer Arrives on Android for Small-Screen Remote Control and Tech Support

    500x_teamviewer_android_01.jpg

Android: Popular remote desktop service TeamViewer has rolled out a version of their viewing software that allows anyone with an Android, and a relatively decent screen, to remotely view, control, and help out on desktop system.

How do you control a remote Windows, Mac, or Linux system with a mostly touchscreen-only Android? TeamViewer's controls actually cover the issue in fairly clever fashion. You drag with one finger to scroll the mouse pointer around. Your finger point isn't exactly where the mouse pointer is—it's just kind of connected, so you can see both the cursor and your finger. Single-tapping is a left click, two-finger-tapping is a right click, and the controls for bringing up a keyboard, hitting Ctrl, Alt, and the other keys are contained at the bottom.

In other words, TeamViewer will do in a pinch when a friend or relative's system needs to be fixed right away, or if you quickly need into your own system for some files you forgot to email/Dropbox. One note: the Android version seems to require that a desktop client run at least version 6, so you may need to have others download the beta versions of their respective viewing clients.

thumb160x_teamviewer_qr.jpgTeamViewer is a free download for Android, but requires a "side" installation—downloading directly, and enabling non-Market installations in your Application settings. Grab it from the QR code at left, or at the main download site.

  8. No, you cannot. I have asked Hutch about this and they explained it pretty well. Hutch has a strange CDMA system. Although they are CDMA phones they use a SIM card because Thais like to choose their numbers. Hutch had to make this accommodation to get customers here. US CDMA phones from Verizon and Sprint cannot accept a sim card so they cannot be used on Hutch's network. Also, the Verizon BBs that use a sim card, the sim card is only for the GSM radio, not the CDMA one, so you cannot use those devices either. You need to buy CDMA phones made specifically for Hutch that accept Hutch's sim cards.

Can't you buy a CDMA phone that has a CDMA sim card slot?

as a general rule CDMA phones do not have a SIM card. all Verizon and Sprint phones are CDMA and the subscriber info is hardwired into the phone.

In GSM phones the subscriber info is located on the SIM card.

New to the market are some hybrid phones (some announced but not out yet) such as the motorola Droid Pro which will have both a CDMA and GSM Radio. but these are few and far between just now

  9. I go back to the states a few times a year and use ATT's Prepaid service for voice and data.

I don't see why you can't take an exact-o knife an cut down the sim to make it a micro sim and use it.

When traveling I use their plan where it's a $1 a day if I use my phone that day and $0.10 a min after that. I I don't make a voice call that day I don't get charged a dollar.

their prepaid data plans are listed below

    gallery_32183_549_72394.jpg

    I get the 100MB plan

hope you find this info useful.

BTW if you add $100 credit to your phone SIM you get a number validity of 1 year for the number. Then just dip into that to top up your minutes (not applicable for iPad) and data.

  10. I used to have an AT&T Pay as you go SIM card and it used to work just adding a data package - pretty expensive, but not crazy expensive.

But now they've locked this option down so it specifically doesn't work with iPhone. I am also sure it won't work with iPads because AT*T wants to sell you their expensive iPad plan. They don't care you don't live here...

Let me know if you find anything... the only thing I found was a few international SIM cards that include data at soviet-era rates. Example: $2.50 / 100 KB. Kilobytes. A Megabyte for a cool $25.

How do they block it, know what kind of device you are using?

  11. So, with an existing EDGE USB modem (or 3G modem ... they are backwardly compatible with EDGE, no?) I can walk into any AT&T shop or kiosk in the USA and simply buy a SIM with a prepaid data plan?

I visit my mother in California about twice a year for a week at a time, and she only has 56k dial-up. I'd like to have something a bit faster -- and which doesn't tie up her phone line -- for those visits. I can satisfy that with a USB modem and a AT&T SIM?

do your mom and yourself a favor and get her some cheep ADSL (if available in her area) buy a 20-50$ WIFI router and save your self the pain of dial-up.

a good site to check for ISP's in her area is http://www.dslreports.com/ click on find service tab and enter her zip code, see what you can find.
