This has now evolved to take on the role as more of a student sponsorship foundation.

And some of my own going out and providing things to people who lost everything in the Tsunami and also working with the Bang Tao Tsunami relief project.

Now complete and housing some 40 odd families.

  2. I don't follow the Pattaya news clipping all that closely but is this like 5 different gropings in the last week??

Is there a grope epidemic going on?

are the women tired of unruly Johns who won't pay?

or is this a new entrapment tactic to settle out of court for some $$??

(I mean no disrespect to true victims of molest or worse, but it just seems that this thing is becoming a common occurrence there?)

  3. As you can tell from the dearth of replies and the length of time form posting to first reply no one can really recommend a good dentist in the cheung talay area.

That's not to say that a good one doesn't exist, but i don't have any experience with one in this area.

You can drive a round an look for one off the road side and that's about it.

I can tell you this tough, I had a check up and cleaning at Bangkok Hospital Phuket and the price for the check up and cleaning/scaling was under 500 baht. I also once had a partial filiing slip out and the repair was only 300 baht.

on the street right behind BKK hospital there are 2 dentists on that road you may inquire with them as well.

Good luck in what ever rout you take.

  4. The company I work for has out grow our space in our current office 'Office A.' To get more room for everybody and accommodate more staff we have let a new place just down the street 'office B' while retaining our original HQ.

Office A is where the company is registered and where the official mail goes, tax registration, yahda yahda yahda.... it's where the company exists in the eyes of the Thai law/Govn't

If I'm working in office B and the WP Police come in and my WP says that I am registered at office A (which is where the company is registered) is there an issue?

PS. yes I know in the main title 'wrok' is a typo for work. I hit the wrong button and now to late to edit it. 'doh :D:o

  5. Surin's got a deep shelf and a shallow break. So the waves tend to pound the shore line and then the rip pulles you out.

Some places in Bang Tao (North of Surin) are like Surin but some are ok you need to walk the beach and find a point that's good for you. With all the hotels on Bangtao as well, there are roped off 'swim only sections' that will protect you from motorized water vehicles and if you're in a jam you can always grab on to the float line. If you're a serious swimmer and want to know your distance the roped off area in front of the Dusit is approximately 250m in distance doing an out, over and back in to shore. Good for training.

Kamala Bay (to the south of Surin) gets bigger waves in the north end of the bay, you'll see the surfers out there. And peters out as you go south in the bay. Kamala is sometimes hit or miss I've seen big rollers out there and some days it's flat, just depends on the day.

Try to swim more towards the middle and be very weary of jet skis!

A good friend of mine was killed in Kamala Bay last year by a jet ski. :D:o

Swim safe and when ever possible swim with a buddy.

    Take care

  6. For some good sea food in Surin you can walk down to the beach and eat at practically any beach restaurant.

The Twin Palms hotel has an interesting and tasty fusion Menu, Also their Sunday Brunch is top notch!

My personal absolute favorite restaurant on the Surin strip is Carmen , It's just up the road form you (Opposite the only parking lot on the street.) and serves Italian and Thai food. It is Wonderful and you really must check it out.

  7. my next thought is all these art shops in Patong and all around that sell originals and reproductions. they must have a way for the tourists to take pieces home? Maybe they got tubes? it's worth a shot.

  8. Pringles cans! lots of pringles cans and duct tape?? :o

did you try the post office box place in central? It's in the "Island Tourist center" aka the bank area, back right corner.

I remember seeing boxes but i can't recall poster tubes or not.

  9. In regards to the SE auto lock, it's a pretty good feature.

I have a SE P910i (not what you're looking for) an it has an auto lock feature that when i close the flip (after using it as a PDA) it automatically locks the key pad. takes 2 button hits to unlock and i'm back in business or just open up the flip.

My wife used to have an SE S700 and it to had the lock so I assume it's a SE feature.

In the 2 above phones i mentioned the lock had a user variable setting e.g. auto lock after 30 sec of inactivity. You set the time limit throw it in your bag and not worry about pocket/purse dialing somebody.

I don't have any experience with Samsung or LG but in terms or menue system and usability I like SE over Nokia and Moto is crap.

when looking at a phone pay attention to editor reviews and especially user reviews.

Check out cnet.com for reviews, and if it's too new or asian specific try Cnet-Asia

  10. Best bet is to first call your embassy and get together what forms you need and what info you will need to have.

My wife and I got our daughter's Birth Cert translation done through the hospital (BKK-HKT Hospital)

I remember the translation was good enough at the embassy but we had to do some sort of registration of my childes birth with the 'Thai offical documents and records ministry' (sorry i don't remember the exact name of the building or department of Thai Gov't that we had to go to)

There they didn't accept our 'offical' translation and I was lead to their one of their officially certified translators (this was off the premises on the other side of a boundary wall in a dilapidated guard shack done on an antique typewriter by an old guy smoking krung theps and drinking a TALL can of Heniken. I shit you not, honest story!) who typed it our for me and then pressed with their seal and then i took it back to the records building and they accepted it and processed everything.

My best piece of advice for you is bring more copies of every possible document that you can have or think of (5 of everything is a safe bet) and have all the originals with you too. It will save you running around looking for a copier in a pinch.

Passport, visa page, tabian Bann if you got it , marriage certificate and all your wifes ID too.

ALSO HAVE ID SIZE PICTURES of you, your wife and baby, at least 4 of each, trust me you'll need them.

Have you posted this in the Families and children section?? you may get more help there.

Good luck doing the Bkk Shuffle, it will take all day so make an appointment, get to your embassy early, and then go with the flow.

  11. This is current; like happening right now started at about 3pm this after noon.

Anybody know what's happened out on Thepkasttri Rd. in Koh Kaew (Boat lagoon area) that's caused the road to get shut down?

What I gathered from my Thai staff is that either the Police shot someone or some one was murdered (either way there is a dead person involved) and the towns people are all up in arms about it and have created a mob and are blocking the road.

(for ppl you outside of Phuket this road is THE major road artery that connects Phuket city with the Airport and North to Phang Nga and off island. Major Disturbance!)

Anyone have any other info?? When will it clear up?

Till then I'm looking to drive through Kamala/Patong/kathu to get home tonight.

  12. Maybe to north for you Cajun as you listed local is South Phuket, but up in Cheung Talay take the entry road to Laguna, make a right going to plaza Del Mar and opposite it is a municipal swimming pool (no diving board)

The pool is 25m in length clean and nice with about 6-8 lanes marked out on the bottom.

Ample parking and the place is mostly deserted except for on weekends.

The prices are 40THB a visit or if you pay 100THB for a one year membership the visits are only 20THB a pop.

  13. I guess it will be as at the Pattaya party, name tags with members nickname and avatar printed. No name tag = no food and drinks!

Girlfriends/wifes will be provided a name tag as well, I believe it will be 'Missus "Membername"'.

Please register in this thread so name tags can be produced.

Missus "membername" hehehe :o that could end up with some interesting combinations

Will you be gracing us with your presences George?
