I contact the hotels directly.

Aren't you supposed to book the RT-PCR tests here: https://www.thailandpsas.com/ for Test & Go? Or is that only for the sandbox scheme?
This is a booking for Phuket, not Bangkok.
I think that was for the sandbox where you had to book your own tests.

This is a booking for Phuket, not Bangkok.
Hotels are doing packages which include the testing.

Go and try the immigration system in Angola.
You pick an extreme example, Angola is about the worst place in W Africa.
Doubt you're see many retired expats wanting to move there tho- lol
Thailand as a popular ( or used to be ) destination for retiring expats is a pain in the hoop, there's no doubt about it.

I wouldn't risk that, knowing my luck they'd probably only stamp me in up to Day 5 ????.
I also would n't risk that, i will do it as per the rules coz i think the day 5 test will get scrapped soon.

Because chances are and in alignment with a lot of other countries, the whole shebang will be abolished, redundant and no longer needed. Double jabbed? Come on down!
What on earth will we moan about then?
Let's hope so.
I'm sure we'll find something to moan about - lol.

Nice one Harry. I can imagine some dullards doing all that extra rigmarole (and more) rather than just stop in a hotel room for a few hours.
Thanks, i did tryot make it as simple as possible but still looks difficult for you to understand.
You obviously have no idea or experience with what's being discussed.

Do you have to do the day1 and day 5 test at the same city?
For instance , could I arrive at BKK stay one night at an approved hotel then after your first day test comes back negative, you travel to Khon Kaen, , stay there at our home, and on the fifth day go to an approved facility in Khon Kaen and have the second test there?
Apparently they can be done in different provinces.
What you suggest should be possible.

need insurance to the end of extension
I have entered numerous times, my insurance has not been till the end of my extension.
I will enter again end of this month, my medical insurance ( which covers covid ) expires end of March so i'll only put 25 days on my Thai Pass application, i don't expect any issues.

Well, I'm presuming that madness is allowed.
Has anyone tried booking yet? Can the Day 1 and Day 2 hotels be different?
There's 2 options to get out of the Day 5 test ( if you're 'up for it )
1. Do day 1 test and release, on day 4 contact the hotel and tell them you've carried out a home test and you're positive so cannot travel. I believe if you're at your own house you're allowed to self isolate ( based on info from Pattaya / BKK hospital when i did a PCR test for travelling about 10 days ago ). You're told if no call from hospital to come and collect certificate, if postive you receive a call and are told to self isolate ( providing minimal symptoms ).
2. If you can show a flight ticket leaving thailand before day 5 then you upload that along with day 1 booking confirmation when applying for Thai Pass, then just bin the ticket and stay.
I will carry out the day 1 and 5 tests and do it 'properly' but these are potential options if not willing to do the day 5 test ( for whatever reason ).

Yeah, i think there's more than one.

Starting a new application is probably easier and quicker than try to get the old one.

It makes one wonder how the airlines don't go bankrupt?
Of course, if they go bankrupt then their friends in government will make them whole with taxpayer money.
Personally I'm a free enterprise type of guy. Let them go bankrupt and allow the market to fill the vacuum with more efficient carriers.
They can't even be covering their fuel costs no less their payroll. One of the few good things to come out of Covid is the lack of people at airports and on flights.
Unfotunately starting to see airports and flights get busier now, which is a bummer.

These seem to be the provinces which have any SHA+Plus hotels, not provinces with hotels that offer Test & Go? None of the properties listed in Sakeo seem to offer a Day 5 T&G package, for instance.
Another option to get out of the 5 day test is simply to buy a throw away ticket which shows you leaving after 3 or 4 days, this will:
1. Reduce risk of + test on day 5 and being at the mercy of what happens
2. Offset the cost of the day 1 and day 5 package.
Flights for surrounding countries 4-5000 baht?

Understatement of the year.
CoE was worse.
It's the same the first time you do anything, perhaps a bit overwhelming but at the end of the day it's only booking hotels / uploading docs / getting a test before travel.
It's really not that difficult.

Did you try to learn Thai? How did you get on? How old were you? Was it worth it? Regrets?

You sound like a barrel of laughs.
I think i'd sooner blow my brains out rather that do what you mention.
My level of Thai is ok, can go about my daily life no drama's, will at some point learn to read a bit better.
