I'm pretty sure doctors & nurses most likely don't take trains. They drive. All the doctors I know of drive their expensive luxury cars to whichever hospital or location they work at.
The word I'm looking for is...<deleted>. Glad I found it - wasn't hard.

The writing has been on the wall since late January - I sold based on the science if others didn't they must have been listening to the shill-liar in chief. More fool them.

Ah those city folk. They embraced Suthep , they embraced the Bangkok shutdown , they embraced the end of democracy, they embraced the junta.
Now they are running around like headless chickens because their beloved leader and his lackies were busy sucking up to their Chinese financiers instead of acting whilst they had time.
So much for the superior educated urbanites. Not so elite or educated after all.
The yellows in my wife's social circle are turning with a ferocity like I have never seen before and they were superannuated arris-lickers before.

Something's can't be said here but on social media I am seeing an enormous explosion of fearless anger - with a pretty obvious source for it's target. We are entering revolutionary times for sure.

Had to look that up but spot on. Thailand's best hope is for a mid-level army coup by young turks against the dinosaurs that can bring the conscripts with them. I hope and pray those forces are stirring within the green.

Thailand is basically a series of interconnected local henchman fiefdoms - with mafia figures in various uniforms of differing sorts. In good times they smear a veneer of thinly disguised civility and bogus Thai culture memes. With what's coming they will revert to type - expect a series of heavily armed and supplied warlords controlling their areas with normal folk left scrapping for crumbs.

So much for laissez-faire capitalism and free markets. Now we will have government owned too-big-to-fail corporations where the profits are privatized and the losses are socialized with a government backstop.
The West has become a bad joke.Be interesting to see how much debt is piled up inside the tangled web of Trump businesses. No wonder he is starting to look a bit pale (orange) I might be wealthier than him ! If he is heavily leveraged he might end up being toast. No bailouts for luxury resorts or golf courses. And I do hope his commie Chinese interests aren't in any way jeopardized. US workers you have been royally had.

My youngest daughter is a biomedical scientist in the NHS (blood/tissue analysis, stuff like that). She is telling me things are absolutely desperate. Big shortage of staff, shortage of the most basic things like swabs, sample tubes, pipettes etc.
Best wishes to her and all her colleagues - never have we loved them more and expected so much of them. They will be cheered like never before in our history. And every other countries healthcare workers as well. Richard Branson and the other rich scumbags with greedy hands already stretched out for bailouts have got a great reckoning coming and soon.

No-one gives a sh&t about Brexit at the moment. National unity calls for suspending any animosities or old beefs and pulling together to get through this. There is virtually a government of national unity at the moment. Boris is no fool when he needs to pull his finger out.
A Starmer-led Opposition with the likes of Yvette Cooper, Rachel Reeves and Hillary Benn back on board might be different. We raise the prospect not to recommend it, but to say: you read it here first.

All the govt needs to do is open up the rice warehouses.
Rent and debt holiday for 3 months as well - Thailand is rich enough. If the rich don't get that at the moment then they will burn along with the country.

Boris has little choice and it is possible that it will last longer than anyone expects. But we all need to stop bickering about maybes and support what the government are trying to do.
Agreed he is doing a great job at the moment and listening to calls on LBC phone-ins he is bringing the country with him. Desperate times call for desperate measures and national unity and local networks of volunteers and pulling together.

The vast number of guns in the USA almost ensures that except in certain areas (NYC, DC, Detroit, California, Chicago, Baltimore, Boston, NJ) the starving hordes, even if armed, are well aware that some trigger happy MAGA hat wearing redneck gun nut is sitting with a 500 Lumen light and an Ar-15.... just waiting. I bet ya that most examples of looting and savage mobhorde actions will be in those areas, not in East Texas or Anchorage.
An armed society is a polite society.
Feel bad for all of the gunhaters in California that figured now is the time to buy a gun, only to be told, yeah, all I got left is that single shot pistol and ya got to wait a week. How to protect your family? Dunno dude, call your governor or maybe take a ride over to the barrio and buy an AK, naw, I cant sell you one, thats illegal.....
Irony is sometimes ironic.
There is the Constitution , the US army and the National Guard who will defend the Union and follow orders. Redneck cowboys and gang bangers will be given short shrift.

There is a curfew now in Bavaria since last night....
Blimey ! The Germansemans won't be kind to anyone including foreigners trying to flout the rules
https://www.thelocal.de/20200320/bavaria-becomes-first-german-state-to-impose-lockdown
In Bavaria the only exceptions are to the curfew will be going to work, necessary shopping, visits to doctors and pharmacies, assisting others, visits from partners - and also exercise outside, but only alone or with other household members. Visits to hospitals are also now forbidden in most circumstances and Söder urged employers to allow people to work from home.

Because of debt. The virus only popped the debt bubble. For 11 years the American economy thrived on cheap money, QE, corporate debt, and consumer debt. Nobody saved. Why? Because the Fed destroyed people's savings with low interest rates. Everytime there was a hiccup in the economy, the Fed and the government lowered rates, printed more money, and told people to go out and "Buy!" So they did. And put it all on their credit cards at 20 percent interest rates. And corporations did the same. Took out loans and used the money to buy back their own shares to artificially inflate their stock price and get bigger executive bonuses. No investment in R&D. No new products. Otherwise, Boeing, for example, would have designed a new passenger jet from scratch, instead of going the cheap route and reworking the 737 into that Frankenstein's monster, the 737 MAX. The economy became financialized. And built on debt. $23.5 trillion in US debt, and Trump and Congress have just tacked on around another $8 trillion in the past four days. The rest of the world did the same thing. Over $250 trillion in global debt. Sorry, Abigail, the US government, the global bureaucrats, the bankers, and the CEOs just consider you roadkill on the way to lining their pockets.
And we pumped up China with trillions of dollars and expertise and even MAGA hats where made there. Looks like the party's over and the world is just getting the bill. Chinese civilization has lasted 3000 years the US more like 300. Do the math. Thailand will get help and go into the China camp lock stock and smoking barrel.

Sadly you are going to go down with the ship. The crime family (thanks Steve Bannon - you gave him the devilish playbook ) will take a lot of the US down with him when what is needed now is sane, responsible bi-bipartisanship leadership. Any bail outs will be made to bail out his properties, golf courses and the like and his Wall St pals he will throw his working class supporters under a bus whilst dialing up the xenophobic rhetoric for deflection. Like a scorpion stinging it's host - it's just what he does. Didn't take long to sack his own staff. Judge a man as to how he treats his friend's and neighbours.

So is saying stuff like "smashed in the face with a reality check" supposed to be a substitute for a rational argument? And still no comment on the actual facts? Let's review, shall we?
England: 33% higher per capita infection rate
England: 398% higher per capita death rate
You're happy with Boris and angry at Trump. And you don't even live in the US. And you can't even make an attempt to explain your logic?

Anecdotes. Just as I figured.
The numbers at this stage are too small to make any meaningful assumptions from the data. We will only know the true picture when the dust finally settles in a few months and the cost will be measured in lives , economic impacts and social stability. You were no doubt one of those flu deniers a few weeks ago and have been smashed in the face with a reality check sadly as has Trump. If I was petty I would google your pronouncements but I'm not so I wont. (scuttles off to google in a mean spirited , petty way !)

You started it - must be hurting to see the commie Chinese-loving Trump (see earlier threads) getting a roasting. This is a Uk thread and you bring it up unprompted. Astonishing. If I was a thread reporting creep that's what I would have done but I don't do that.
