Type in "Malaysia my second home" into any search engine and see what another country is offering to ex-pats with a bit of money in the bank. They positively invite farangs to live and settle in their country, and can even own land and property.

Thailand, take a long, hard look...

  2. This on the RTE London pages this morning:

    **Repatriation flights for non-Thai nationals**

    Rrgistration will be open soon.

While commercial flights are banned from entering Thailand, the Embassy has arranged repatriation flights to facilitate Thai nationals and non-Thai nationals in the UK and Ireland who need to go to Thailand.

Each flight can accommodate up to 50 non-Thai nationals.

There are 3 flights in August 2020 by Thai Airways International :

    - Flight#1 on 9 August 2020

    - Flight#2 on 16 August 2020

    - Flight#3 on 23 August 2020

All flights are TG917, departing at 21.25 hrs. from London Heathrow Airport, Terminal 2.

Economy class tickets are £689.00 and business class tickets are £2,802.00 (one way from London to Bangkok).

The Emybassy will send the list of registered passengers to Thai Airways International to make booking. Payment for tickets will be made directly to Thai Airways International.

The Embassy reserves the rights for Thais and non-Thai nationals in the UK and Ireland.

**The Embassy will issue the Certificate of Entry (CoE) to registered passengers after they have submitted the ASQ hotel booking confirmation.**

  3. Just for info....this in my email this morning.

    Dear Sir/Madame,

Thank you very much for the queries about travelling to Thailand for foreigners and according to the list of categories of travelling purposes that are allowed to enter the country. However, it could be very difficult. We would like to recommend to you postpone it or consider not to travel if not necessary.

You would need to check whether what visa you are required as well as the Certificate of Entry (COE). If you already have the valid visa or re-entry permit, you would still need the COE
    http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/7742/119247-Requirements-for-Certificate-of-Entry-during-trave.html.

    1. We would like you to read the link below carefully

    http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/7742/119247-Requirements-for-Certificate-of-Entry-during-trave.html
to make sure that you are in one of the categories that are allowed to enter Thailand during the COVID19.

    2. You would need the flight before anything else, before applying for the visa and COE. If you do not have the flight to fly, you will waste of time and money applying for Visa and COE.

As you may know that ALL commercial flights are banned to get in to Thailand at the moment UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, some airlines still sell ticket hoping the borders will be opened by when the ticket dated to fly. In fact, Thailand is still closed the borders.

At the moment, there are the REPATRIATION FLIGHTS offered by the airlines that have been arranged specifically to urgent need of people who would really like to travel to Thailand.

The Repatriation flights will be prioritised to Thais but still there are a few seats available for foreigners. The booking could be found on the website or Facebook page of the Embassy as soon as the information becomes available.

    3. The quarantine is also strictly required. For foreigners, you need to book the ASQ (the hotel where the government approved for the Alternative States Quarantine). These spaces are also limited due to the high demand of foreigners from all over the world who would like to enter the country.

Please note that, If you cannot book the hotel on the date of arrival according to the flight date, you will not be able to travel as the COE will identify the flight ticket and the ASQ.

    4. Once you have 2 and 3, you can apply for the visa and COE at the same time at

    https://thaievisa.go.th/Home/

If you have everything we required, the visa and COE will be very easy to get approved.

Please note that the insurance covering covid is required to clearly stating that it covers at least 100,000 in Thailand (NOT WORLDWIDE), with your name as a policy holder on the same page. If you do not have this, please make a request to the insurance company to write the letter.

    5. All non-Thai passengers are also required to have a Fit to Fly health certificate and a medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID -19 is not detected (COVID test must be by RT-PCR method), both issued within 72 hours before departure. This is your own responsibility as these 2 documents will have to be presented upon check-in with the airlines and arrival in Thailand.

    Thank you very much

    Best regards

  4. Does anyone have a copy of the email UK embassy sent saying no more CoE being issued?

    This is what I received:

If you have all document requested, you can submit the document to proceed visa and COE at the same time at http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services

You are also required to bring in a copy of all document submitted.

Please note that COE will be issued once you have the confirmed flight and ASQ.

We would like to emphasise that there are no commercial flights allowed to get into the country at the moment. However, the airline would like to sell you tickets that cannot really fly. They may be able to refund it later. It would be better to wait a little more until there are updated.

There will be a repatriation flight. The seat will be allocated prioritise for Thais. Please keep update further information about the seat available at www.thaiembassy.org./london

Should you any further enquiries, please kindly contact
    [email protected]

    Thank you very much

Anyone believing the 'Steps to Enter' list on the OP should note that that is the theory.

Currently applications for a COE in the UK are suspended - no reason given.  When they do accept them the instructions say you are required to book both a flight and an ASQ hotel - without any dates given for travel.  It is not surprising then, that people who's COE has been granted are struggling to find ASQ hotels - they are booked up with 'phantom bookings' created by this crazy policy.  When you ask them what dates you should book you flights for or how you can book them with no dates, they just send you an email that says 'You are required to have a valid flight booking when applying for COE' - the e-mails just go back and forth - no sense, no explanations. I've even sent it in Thai - same reply.

The official policy on the RTE London website does not list flights as a requirement (it did previously) - only ASQ. But when you contact them for information, they tell you to book a flight. As far as we know, the suspension is because they haven't allocated flights for August yet - why don't they just say that?

I don't see the problem with simply checking your eligibility and putting you in a queue for the next available flight - maybe that's too easy.

Do you have a link for these details that the CoE is suspended in UK?

A friend of mine is a senior purser with EK and has been rostered a DXB-BKK-DXB flight in late August - the first time BKK has been on any Emirates roster since March. As you say, maybe a glimmer of hope but I'm not betting on it.

Emirates have been taking bookings to BKK for quite some time now.  I booked my ticket on 29th May to depart second week of August....obviously there is not even a snowballs chance of it going ahead but they've been taking bookings for a while now.

  7. I can't imagine many 'Foreign' teachers outside the LOS awaiting entry would be prepared to foot the heavy cost of getting in to take up their posts at present.

Never mind the completely crazy and convoluted requirements for obtaining a visa then your cert of entry.

Flight possibly 2.5K GBP last time I looked only business class was being offered on a repat flight out of UK for non Thai.

    ASQ 50 - 100k Baht

By the time you have added costs of tests, insurance, fit to fly certs etc you could be looking at the guts of 5K GBP before you have even taken up your post.

Thats gotta me a no then!

  8. I kept pythons for many years.  I had a couple of specimens that were close to 12ft in length.  Their bite wasn't so bad (if a little bloody because of the many teeth) but the force they hit you with was astonishing.....bruised for weeks lol.

  9. At least you actually got a reply!  I got a standard bounce back email from their visa dept.  I tried phoning The London office but it just rang off. Looks like I like many will have to sit tight here at home until commercial flights are up and running again.

I can only hope my employer in LOS will hold my job!

Some seem to think the requirements are aimed at Tourists - they are not.

At this stage the requirements are for the sole purpose of repatriating the people who meet the requirements.

Tourists are unable to entry Thailand.

Yep agreed not for tourists at the moment though as someone trying to get out for work it is becoming far too convoluted and costly.
