As was once said to me 'their right to make a noise is greater or at least equal to our right to peace and quiet.'

    WRONG!!!

For one...There are Decibel limits on noise being made, there are no limits on how quiet you can be!  End Of!   Shhhhh....TIT.

Did you read that before you wrote it?  Surely the limit on how quiet you can be is silence!

As I have already stated. The longer the country stays closed. The longer the economy is going to suffer.

Thailand is going to be seriously indebted very soon if they dont pull their fingers out. The writing is on the wall.

A country cannot stay closed indefinitely. The only people that will travel in the next few months are those with a reason for work, family, and emergencies. Tourism will not pick up now as people reign in spending during uncertainty.

I also want to get to thailand to teach. But cannot due to these draconian rules that are strangling its economy.

Thailand will never be the same again after this summer as there will be so many hotels and businesses closed. The volume of tourists for next year will not be possible due to lower capacity in hotels as many will close.

I too need to get out there to teach.....and if things keep going the way they are I'm looking at serious difficulty as I am not permitted to teach in my home country whilst on a career break. No income here at home may mean having to sell my house! I have watched the proceedings with interest and not a little astonishment.

Testing on arrival, track and trace, self quarantine if necessary would go a long way to helping LOS start the economy rolling.

It seems there are new directions taken each and every day!

The government says the first few thousand non-essential foreigners were cleared for arrival as of July 1 — mostly permanent residents and work permit holders, investors, teachers, students and those seeking medical care.

Teachers?  Here's one stuck at the other side of the world and not hopeful about taking up post late August!

  4. You could try it but remember little at a time.  Sometimes yellowing of leaves can be due to over watering and just to confuse the issue even more with some plants it can be due to underwatering.

I'd try a little of the urea and see what happens.

You could always try making your own fertilisers though I've not done this.

    https://thegrownetwork.com/15-simple-and-inexpensive-homemade-fertilizers/

I did have an effective wormery here a few years back (Ireland) that produced excellent liquid fertiliser and compost from household waste....I don't know how easy that would be to get in Pattaya though.

The other option would be for me to bring you out some in Aug as I am due to start work there and I am sure I could weasel a little fertiliser into my luggage!

  5. It all seems a bit limbo ish.  I'm travelling out of Ireland in early August (I hope).  My employer emailed this morning asking for details of which Embassy to write to for a WP (this will be at least the 4th time I have supplied this info).

I'm still waiting for the FCO here in UK to legalise my docs as they weren't sure that my solicitor was a solicitor it would seem.

Thats before I send docs to the Embassy (which is currently shut) so they can also legalise them!

There has been no mention of extra insurance nor me having to pay for quarantine.

    Is it always this complicated?

  6. I am currently teaching online here in N. Ireland (whilst freaking out that I may not get to start in Thailand in Aug!)

SO...we had minimal training in the use of Google Classroom etc but hey it's a pandemic and we can learn on the go.

No live action teaching from my school as there are all sorts of Security and child protection issues apparently.

I teach secondary science......there will be no practical work (Duh)

Student engagement has been patchy especially with the GCSE pupils who know they will be awarded an estimated grade.

KS3 pupils are engaging but there are serious issues:

Many have no computer/laptop/tablet at home.

    Some have no broadband.

Many are accessing the work via android phones.

Google docs re formats any word document uploaded with the result that it becomes unreadable to the pupils.

Like I say...a steep learning curve with limited success.  It has also highlighted the absolutely abysmal ICT provision to date from that particular department in my school.  I'd have thought that each pupil being allocated a school email address would have been paramount at the start of the year!

I can only hope that LOS opens enough for me to get out there later in the summer and that I can take up my post....if not I'm unemployed here for a year lol.

    Joy abounding!

Yes, they will. That doesn't mean that all the flights previously scheduled will happen as there are very few passengers willing to travel. Just check with the site of the airline.

I'm hoping to still take up work in Aug/Sept.....I can see and book flights out with a number of airlines for mid Aug and at a reasonable cost.  Cathay for eg....though the weird thing is whilst the flight travels from Ireland to BKK via HK their website says no transit through HK allowed!  Why show the route as bookable if you cannot fly it?

In other news If I don't make it out there I'm unemployed for a year ????

I'm the original poster.  I'm not needing to get to Phonthep 2.  The other poster may want to look at Norway Viking Village for accommodation.  If he is working at Mooltripakee school, it is only 7 minutes drive away.

Norway Viking Village looks like it may be exactly what I am after!  Cheers for that and apologies again for the previous hijack.

  9. Cheers for the reply.

I'll be fed at work and exist on a mostly Asian diet anyway so food I doubt will add up.  As for drinks, the odd beer at the roadside will do me and the odd Scotch if I can find a half decent Jazz club/bar.

As for the Girls... It may sound strange but my seedy days are long gone lol.....If I want a bit of strange I hit the Techno clubs in Berlin....more my scene ????

My main worry was transport as I just can't see me on a Scooter (maybe an electric Bike!).  I'm not sure the Baht Bus would head out to work reliably.

If I can manage a little left over at the end of the month to get out to the hills for a hike etc I'll be happy.

If you don't have your own transport, i recomand you to find

something very close from your work. Even CC1 is relatively far from

Phonthep 2 village, i don't know about your salary but if it's not big

the daily taxi costs can be a pain in the a...

Don't chose your location thinking about your friends or family visits

(They only come for few days and they probably have their own requirments

and standarts for the choice of a place, and if they can travel they also can

pay for their accomodation, you are not here to provide a free bed and breakfeast

anyway you come for work so i presume you are not going to have a lot of free

time for them. you need to be clear with them about this or everybody could be

a little bit disapointed in the end if there is a misunderstanding)

my advice is pick a place adapted to YOU

(If you are alone and on a budget, take a studio near your work

come here some days before you start to work and use this time to find

one, not very easy here because the real market is very desorganized

do not use the useless ''agents'' it's better to do your own market on

internet sites like marketplace or others go read in the real estate part

    of the forum for it)

    Good luck

    Cheers for the advice....

Salary around 70K but 30 of that will have to go back home each month.  Should be doable I think.  I don't really have expensive tastes lol.
